Maybe next year we come back.  Excited?  I think that is doubtful.  They need to make miracles happen to get any excitement back.

While I wouldn't mind a win vs. the Kings, I actually equally wouldn't mind a loss and a quick exit.

I genuinely need a break from the Mavs. Might sound crazy/unhealthy, but the emotional turmoil this team has put me through the last 2 months has been excruciating. Not a day has gone by I haven't been sad/angry about this trade.

Should the Mavs bow out early, for the first time in 30 years I'm probably not going to watch any basketball for a while and do a reset. I think I really need that.

Me too... Last months were "too much" for me honestly.

Next year we have nothing to come back with.  We have some good players, but we don't have a star.  Kyrie--bless his little ole' heart--can't carry a team for a whole year.  Anthony Davis, at best, is a Robin.  As stated by someone else: We need a Batman, and there is no Batman on our horizon.

I'm a hardcore Mavs fan, but management...Nico and Dumont, and maybe others...are making it hard to have hope.  Most of our recent hard years--last 20 years, or so--have been management induced.  I would say that I look upon next year with trepidation.  I see nothing to be excited about...

But I will be here.

I hope Nico is not.

Miracles do happen.

RE: MAVS NEWS: - Nowitzki Way - 04-14-2025

I vote for a loss to Sacramento and end this miserable season.

Fire Nico and Kidd this offseason. Thats when it gets tricky though. We fire Kidd and Nico, does Kyrie still want to be here?

I think we need some tweaks with this roster for next season. This team was built around Luka and now our star player is Anthony Davis. Are we building around him or what are we doing?

P.J. seems to not have a place with this roster. Not sure Gafford does either. Both have one more year left so i can see some trades.

RE: MAVS NEWS: - Scott41theMavs - 04-14-2025

What I hope happens this offseason -
1) Nico is fired after we're eliminated from the play-in.
2) Hire a great GM with skins on the wall.
3) Judiciously use our veteran players in trades to get all of our first rounders back (such trades have been done before - the key here is ***all of them*** - get all of our first rounders and pick swaps back).
4) Focus in the near term on buy-low trade candidates whose value can increase for future trades.
5) Try to hold on to Kidd as long as possible until he himself bails to sully his reputation - if he had anything to do with trading Luka.
6) Trust the process.

That speeds up rebuilding Nico's disaster from about a 10-year rebuild to a 6-year rebuild. Of course, in the meantime, that means early-'90s-level on-court product. I'd rather that than be the Brooklyn Nets.

RE: MAVS NEWS: - michaeltex - 04-14-2025

I get the negativity, but it's time to move on. Although, I hope Nico isn't part of the future. He'd have to come up with a GSW-level dynasty to win back trust in DAL.

Am I wrong or do we not still have picks for the next several seasons?

Year    Pick       Status
2025    R1        Own
2025    R2        to BOS or UTA
2026    R1        Own
2026    R2        to OKC, HOU or SA
2027    R1        to CHA
2027    R2        to WAS or DET
2028    R1        Own – Possible swap with OKC
2028    R2        to IND
2029    R1        to Hou or BKN
2029    R1        FROM LAL
2029    R2        to BKN
2030    R1        Swap with SA and/or MIN
2030    R2        to BKN
2031    R1        Own
2031    R2        to DET

DAL is at least picking in the 1st round every year except 2027. If the MBT decides AD+Lively+Jones+PJ is enough to start with for a front line, then Gafford should be worth significant considerations returning that would help add picks if wanted. I'd hate to lose him, but I feel like the LAL trade and all the lost time to injuries have sort of broken the continuity of this team. So it's probably better to maximize his value now than re-investing in him next season. Obviously, this assumes Jones isn't stolen by another team this summer.

On a side note. IF Nico is a goner, I really hope DAL quickly hires a replacement that can hit the ground running. Things happen very quickly in the 3-4 weeks after the POs are over. FA negotiation and signings, NBA draft, undrafted signings and summer league action all happen back to back. BTW, this also applies to any contemplated head coach changes.

Kyrie will be out most of next season, i just hope they will fire Nico before he will offer him a max.

Fire Kidd. He is just a mediocre coach blessed by Luka Doncic.

Trade AD.

Start rebuild ASAP.

RE: MAVS NEWS: - SwisherPrice - 04-14-2025

A lot of experienced GMs will be available...do it Dumont!

RE: MAVS NEWS: - RasheedsBigWhiteSpot - 04-14-2025

The Mavs should blow it up and rebuild with an experienced GM.

Trade AD to Philly. Eat Paul George's deal and get their Lottery pick. Let George "rehab" his game and then trade him in a year like OKC used to (ie. Chris Paul, Al Horford, etc).

Sign and trade Kyrie. Sure, he could outright sign with another team, but it would be way easier if the Mavs took on the other team's ballast and was paid well to do so.

Trade PJ, Gafford, Lively (if the right deal comes along), Klay, Naji, Christie, Martin, Hardy for picks or for bad contracts that come with a BAG of assets. Again, be the OKC model.

Once it's all done, try to wind up with 7 to 10 1"s and a boatload of 2's.

What's sad is that a real, quality GM could get as much for some of these bit parts as dumb f--- got drunk dialing Pelinka and gifting Luka (I'm still amazed that they didn't get Rivers, Knect, all the picks/swaps and anything else that wasn't nailed down). Remember when Gobert was considered a massive negative asset and yet Ainge got FOUR unprotected picks and young players??

Truthfully, I don't know where Nico goes from here (not that I really care). He's a pariah around the league and any fan base would revolt if he was hired. Sure, he could go work for the Lakers, but that would be a terrible look and, plus, Luka hates him. He could go back to Nike, but, Luka is signed there, Lebron is now Luka's boy and they're not going to do anything to jeopardize him re-signing with LA. Plus, what player would want to sign with him after the lack of loyalty he showed to one of the league's best players?

So, maybe Nico goes to work at a Foot Locker in a deserted mall, only being trusted with the velcro shoes.

Just do a franchise reboot less than 12 months after being in the Finals and flush it all away.

When you're a bottom-feeding team - or a treadmill of lower-end-of-mediocrity team without a Batman - what you need more than anything else to rebuild is your own picks. Not the pick of the perennial championship-contending Lakers (until Luka retires). Not the Spurs' with Wemby and whoever. And they need a high pick in '27.

RE: MAVS NEWS: - F Gump - 04-14-2025

I agree with the idea that Nico MUST go, and a MAJOR talented GM needs to be brought in. Firing Nico is needed to allow fanbase to move forward at all, but the expert is needed in that job.

But -- I am not convinced stripping things down to the studs is the right move. It is SUPER SUPER hard to accumulate top talent. It's a tricky road to navigate.

Take the moves in Utah just mentioned. They got a supposed haul ... but they are awful, and there's really no light at the end of the tunnel. As the 90s Mavs showed us, the supposed rebuild can take a decade of awfulness or more before anything good starts to happen.

BTW the GM the Mavs need is Presti. He would be perfect in figuring out what to do, how to pivot, and getting the most value from picks, trades, and other negotiations. Give him a share of ownership to lock him in -- he's the answer.

RE: MAVS NEWS: - Chicagojk - 04-14-2025

I see two routes. KD trade or blow things up. I see no other way this team is a contender without getting a #1 dude. KD is that. It just is incredibly risky and more than likely blows up on your face. Neither AD or Kyrie are #1 scorers on contenders. KD is and Kyrie and AD would be out in their better served roles. The issues are obvious: limited depth, age and injuries. I just don’t see where using a pick out players for the Sexton level talents put this team even close to a contender.

A blow up would suck, but it would be a reset. A lot of the fans would leave and we would be bad for a know time. Next years draft supposedly is a year to be bad. Not a
Full blowup.

Just move ad. Keep young guys and a few others who have some value and
Young. Without ad and Kyrie they would suck regardless.

I may PO the vast majority of this board but here goes. I won’t be surprised and would be fine if Nico gets fired especially if ownership brings in a high quality GM staff as well as an equally high quality training staff. J Kidd seems to have improved and done well lately.

I would also be fine if Nico is kept. I don’t think the Luka decision was really his. I think someone in ownership made a character decision about Luka based on their understanding of team observations of Luka’s behavior. Their observations fooled them into making what will probably be one of the worst sports decisions of all time. Their observations hit their biases in all the wrong ways, it blinded them and …..

However, this sounds like way higher than a GM decision to me. They are still in charge. They may ask Nico to take our still existing high quality players and a few assets and trust Nico to make them look good. They must recognize their epic mistake by now. They may fire Nico to save face but they might also recognize that they should have trusted him when he tried to tell them no. Nico has made about 75% good player moves in the past. He and Kidd’s relationship with Kyrie has made Kyrie work outstandingly well here.

Anyway there is no need to correct me or get all upset about my observation. I think I’m still allowed to have it. I will be watching the playoffs with interest because I just still love basketball. I will also look forward to next year. There are numerous Cubs fans in my family. I guess they wore off on me.

Actually I think Zion is the other #1 guy.  Although that brings all sorts of issues in Dallas.  Can’t see him being an option here.  Although ifmight I be ok with a three team trade getting Zion for AD?  Probably not but maybe something I could talk myself into after a few drinks Smile

RE: MAVS NEWS: - Chicagojk - 04-14-2025

So Brandon William may be unavailable in the playin. I have no idea what level of blame the training staff gets. Maybe very little. I know literally nothing about them but I think a fresh reset is best this offseason.

RE: MAVS NEWS: - Chicagojk - 04-14-2025

One more KD point. Mavs trading for him will likely end in disaster long term, but he is still damn good. 26 pts, 6 rebounds and 4 assists on 52/33/83 shooting. I believe he is still solid on defense too. He deserves blame for Phx but that team lacked no interior defense and their roster was a mess. I am not sure how much longer he can keep this level of play but he is still really good. When he is in the court.

I have a sickening feeling that this team is going to do the worst thing possible right now - beat Sacramento, then beat the Grizz for the privilege of having their collective Johnson ripped off by OKC, thus losing their chances at league recompense.

You're more confident than I am.  Sacramento can score in bunches with LaVine (he's been on a heater)  , Sabonis, and DeRozan. I think Sac will advance to the Grizz, and it'll be a pick-em to see who gets bludgeoned by the Thunder.

I think we can beat Sacramento (their defense really sucks) but not Memphis...if AD plays like a superstar and as a soft ass like against Fakers.
