RE: MAVS NEWS: - Jym - 04-06-2025 (04-06-2025, 10:30 AM)Chicagojk Wrote: I just don't know how the math works with this current team. I just have a drastic different view how this roster should be put together to even have a chance. Even if you don't even consider the Luka trade. If they want to play big, you need all your guards to be able to shoot, break down defenses and get into the lane for themselves or throw oops to the bigs. For me, I would move Marshall and then Klay would be my backup three. He just doesn't do the above good enough to be my starting two..especially with the lack of creation of the roster. It is why the Grimes trade was so tough (plus giving up the pick). Grimes would be a really nice piece. The second round pick could be included for a guy like Jordan Clarkson (he provides some pop). Add a first round pick who can dribble, shoot and break down defenses and you are starting to see a route (may not be a great route though). Have bigs who can win on the inside and make it difficult to score at the rim and everyone else can break down defenses and hit open shots. PJ and Klay are your recipients of these players who can penetrate. Instead we have a team who has no creators and is not a good shooting team. I have no idea how you think this is a way to put together a roster (even if you pretended Luka was never a mav). I've said several times that the follow up Caleb Martin trade depressed me even more than the Luka move. Nothing about it made ANY sense to me even if everyone stayed healthy. Confirmed there was no vision here. RE: MAVS NEWS: - Chicagojk - 04-06-2025 (04-06-2025, 11:31 AM)Jym Wrote: I've said several times that the follow up Caleb Martin trade depressed me even more than the Luka move. Yeah, I can see a world where Caleb works better on a good team than Grimes. It may be a longshot. No shot if he can't get healthy. But for a team without much shooting, it is just a weird decision. I thought the KD stuff was overplayed and it will end up being horrible, but for the first time I see a panic move coming. The Mavs have no shot right now..even with a healthy Kyrie. A PJ/Gaff/Martin/Marshall plus pick(s) could be something I could see the Mavs doing. I didn't put Klay in there because I think they value him more than some of those other players. Plus, PHX would have no interest and I can't imagine Klay brings much back in a three way. I would be the Mavs not trading for KD than trading for him, but for the first time I could see a major panic this offseason. Especially if they continue to look poor as the season ends while being healthy (sans Kyrie). RE: MAVS NEWS: - FireNicoHarrison - 04-06-2025 Probably it's not wrong think that Martin could be better than Grimes along Luka... RE: MAVS NEWS: - cow - 04-06-2025 I 100% expect the Mavs to go after KD if Nico is still around. Maybe there is an outside chance that Nico gets canned if we are to believe Cubes that the new ownership now regrets the Luka trade. (04-06-2025, 11:31 AM)Jym Wrote: I've said several times that the follow up Caleb Martin trade depressed me even more than the Luka move. I think it was a combination of not being able to/not wanting to afford Grimes with a side benefit of "get them talking about something else". Including a pick was atrocious. RE: MAVS NEWS: - Chicagojk - 04-08-2025 I just don’t know how the mavs fix this the next two years if you think Kyrie is out mostly next year. The lack of creators are glaring. Also the look of several west teams future looks much brighter (future meaning the next 2-3 years) So I think the mavs are going to be forced to do a Hail Mary. It will probably destroy them further but it the only hope I see for them. KD for Gafford, washington, Marshall, Hardy, and filler like Powell. This years pick and a future pick will need to be included. That is not a great offer for Phx but it is solid. Gafford and washington can either be fits for Phx or eventually moved as their contracts are not long term. So they miss out on young upside guys outside of the late lottery pick. Dallas would have holes. Especially considering the limits of their top being available. Martin and Max are solid bench players who work better when surrounded by good scorers. They will need to piece together the point guard spot. Is a combo of Exum, smith jr (others can be replaced over smith jr)and Williams enough to piece together slightly below average play? Backup center would also be a concern. Omax would get a final shot to prove he can play. They will need to get lucky on a low priced veteran. It probably ends in the same spot which is irrelevance. I just don’t think keeping most of the team, adding a pick and using a resource for upgrade at guard is going to be enough. This is coming from someone who thought KD didn’t make sense about a month ago and would wreck the franchise more. Well that is where we are and the franchise is already wrecked. RE: MAVS NEWS: - FireNicoHarrison - 04-08-2025 Our PG spot passed from a top2 NBA player to 2way/min guys... Ouch. RE: MAVS NEWS: - FireNicoHarrison - 04-08-2025 KD is searching for a 120M 2years extension... So assume that Harrison will trade all our remaining assets for him we will pay the old&injuried core KD, AD and Kyrie around 170M per year. You are welcome new Phoenix Suns. RE: MAVS NEWS: - Chicagojk - 04-08-2025 Shams said Mavs will convert Brandon Williams to a standard contract later in the week. It is too bad he was not active the last week. I really wanted to get a look at him in important games to end the year. Most of the games he played in the team was so depleted that it was hard to see if his play was transferrable when the team was mostly healthy. RE: MAVS NEWS: - Chicagojk - 04-08-2025 Looks like Exum may be back before end of the season. Good for him. Lost year but good for him for keep on fighting to get healthy. It has been a tough year for him. He's looked like an actual NBA player this year. I'd rather he have 30+ minutes a night than Dinwiddie at this point. RE: MAVS NEWS: - michaeltex - 04-09-2025 Is this the only signing we expect? There was some talk of cutting someone to sign Edwards, but if Exum is returning, maybe not. It will be a game or two run and then we start the offseason. If Exum is back that is great. You keep his cap hold in case you want to bring him back. RE: MAVS NEWS: - Chicagojk - 04-09-2025 Dennis working out in his gym. Check out the Maverick shorts. Hmm. Needs to lose weight though. A little too heavy. https://www.instagram.com/p/DIOoSgbuiTY/ RE: MAVS NEWS: - F Gump - 04-09-2025 (04-09-2025, 12:05 PM)michaeltex Wrote: Is this the only signing we expect? There was some talk of cutting someone to sign Edwards, but if Exum is returning, maybe not. Yes BW should be the only one signed. FWIW I don't think Edwards was in the recent conversation (except for way back in Jan/Feb, when he was the only 2-way that looked any good). We recently talked about Jones, but lack of a roster spot is in the way there, and Exum is going to be far more useful at this point than a 4th center (Jones) so that's that. Nor do they have any avenue to a hardship exception for the last regular season games, as the roster only has 2 players really out due to extended injury (Kyrie, OMax) and it requires 4. RE: MAVS NEWS: - Chicagojk - 04-10-2025 Just wondering about Marshall and PJ from last night. I had sort of come to the conclusion that while Marshall has been good with everyone healthy that his skills probably wouldn't be fully utilized when everyone was healthy and therefore a realistic trade piece this summer. On the other hand, Marshall started as point guard last night (I guess it was point as no one else could really dribble). He had 8 assists and was our one conssisted offensive player last night. He also has two years left on his contract at 9 million. On the other hand, PJ looks really awkward trying to dribble and create. He had 5 bad turover last night. It seems like you can see the turnovers coming. He has that go right into the body of the defender type move. It leads to way too many turnovers. PJ is also in his last year of his contact next year and what will he be looking for? 20 MIl? 25 Mil? more? I am not sure if I want Marshall as a starter but for the first time I started to think if I would prefer him better than PJ moving forward. |
