RE: MAVS NEWS: - BolsDamols - 03-04-2025

I watch LA games on delay - when Luka sits I fast forward, I watch again when he comes back in. He is slowly getting back into form, and JJ has been managing his minutes well. DFS being there also makes it easier. This is how I cope.

Nico. just fire the lowly shoe salesman already. 3 year window is kaput.

Kyrie has a torn ACL; he's done for the season. What a nightmare!

RE: MAVS NEWS: - MarkAguirreWrathofGod - 03-04-2025

I’ve long since stopped watching (have only watched Mavs @ Lakers since the trade) so this isn’t hitting me as hard. But I feel for all of my fellow Mav fans and especially my friends around here.

He will probably miss some time at the beginning of next season.

The contract may also be impacted by this.  I've assumed opting out of his PO would give him the greatest leverage.  Is that still his best path?

It's possible he'll miss the ENTIRETY of next season. Maybe not likely, but possible.

I can see a similar scenario here. Except instead of Kyrie carrying the Nets without KD for a year, KD will work with AD to keep the Mavs afloat.

I'm not so sure about this.  The math is different when your 37.  Given the mess of a situation his is in right now, does he really want to walk into this shit show just to wait a year on Kyrie to get healthy and potentially never be the player he was?

I'm going to try not to get overly negative, but this is a guy in his 30s who's game is predicated athleticism and quickness.  Even when he comes back, he may or may not be a star level player anymore.  His BBIQ is top shelf, so I believe he'll find a way to remain a high level starter, but superstar?  I don't know.

Finney eased the LA transition to be sure.  Nico can stay to fulfill his contract as far as I'm concerned.  Just grab some crutches, gauze and peroxide and head to the Mavs dressing room.  Casey Smith is not coming through that door.

RE: MAVS NEWS: - ThisIStheYear - 03-04-2025

We went from a disappointing season with a chance to get a decent draft pick and get healthy for a title run next season to the end of an era in 30 days. Really it was just one day but took 30 days to play out. The team is out of options. The idiotic KD talk should stop. We need a complete reboot and a new young superstar to build around. Until that happens, this franchise is in the wind.

I don’t understand why you don’t think a GM who loves to make dumb moves would just suddenly stop with a dumb KD move.

It will happen.

Thankfully KD +AD are good enough to stave off a lotto pick to just really prolong the rebuild.

I think yes. He is facing a risk he will not be the same player once he comes back and he will be 34 next summer. So if he takes his option and fails to produce, it is quite likely he will never be able to sign another big contract.

Lets assume all he asks in the summer is a similar three year deal he signed last time. I don't think Dallas can really say no to that. Someone else will likely be willing to take the risk at 40 mil per season for three years, even though it will likely take a SnT to do it. And if Dallas is not willing to take the risk, I can't imagine they would not help him get to somewhere else he would want to go to.

RE: MAVS NEWS: - SleepingHero - 03-04-2025

@GrantAfseth
On The Pat McAfee Show, Shams Charania described Kyrie Irving as being “on track to get a max contract this offseason potentially” before his torn ACL.

Irving has a player option worth over $43.9M for the 2025-26 season. He averaged 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.6 assists.

Who?
Which GM will pay 120M for 33 years old Kyrie in ACL with his awful reputation?
I think 2 years is very possible, as a sign of good faith from the 2 sides, but 3 is us losing the negotiations

I don’t think there’s a scenario where Kyrie opts out. He’s not getting 44 mil now anywhere else.

I do think he opts and extends with Nico giving him a good will extension given Kyrie took a small discount initially when he came here.

I am fully expecting Kyrie to be out till February though. Guys at his age usually tend to take on the longer end for rehab. But that’s just an educated guess. He could potentially be back as early as December if the tear is not so severe

(03-02-2025, 12:07 PM)Chicagojk Wrote: I have seen enough.  Move me into team tank!  I know it is too late to really tank, but I think it will be organic anyway.  Against any healthy solid to good team, this team doesn't have the roster or bodies to beat these teams.    No matter how hard they fight.    I expect them to be 5 games below .500 by the end of March when there is a chance one of the bigs is ready (I am not confident that they will be ready by this date either).  If that is the case, the season will pretty much be put to bed and no need to bring back a big who may be limited with condititioning and time limits.    They fought for a while, I just don't think there is good vibes right now.  The lack of playable bigs is also a huge concern.    Now, PJ can't seem to string multiple games together and it appears he is going to need some more time off to get fully healthy.

I think I am going to back away for a bit.  Maybe I am wrong and they will prove to be a tougher out and I may post (will definately lurk), but I am expecting a rough next few weeks.  I am not ready to watch that type of performance that we saw last night.

Wow...I knew it would get bad, but this bad?  First, I feel for Kyrie who really was a good soldier and an excellent player.   To think he could withstand this heavy workload even with the bigs healthy was a faulty premise from the beginning.   Get well Ky.

- Mavs Crisis management team....need one.  The season ticket price increase was probably something in the works for a while.  Although, someone needed to look at the messaging and say "lets not do this now".  They have had so many self goals and they can't go more than a few days without a major blunder.   There is no way getting away from the big blunder, but so many of the bad moves should have been simple fixes (Nico laughing and not prepared at press conference, Dumont comments,  The leaks, the raising of ticket prices, etc). Swallow the bullet....Need to talk to the fans.  Even if will be a bloodbath.  Show some compassion.

-I can't see Mavs winning more than 2 out of 10 games the rest of the season.  That may be too much.  They don't need to tank.  They just don't have the talent and the team appears broken.  They may very well win less than that.

-I would strongly consider moving AD this offseason.  The 26 draft appears to be 3 studs up top.  Although, I expect they keep everyone though.    I don't think KD happens.  I have thought the trade they would explore is player plus two picks (Deni Avidja type trade from this past offseason).   Question is though, is giving up two picks the right move now?  Because we have not seen this team play healthy, I don't know how you can go more in.   The pairing of Lively/Gaff, AD and PJ may not wok out at all.

Don't even worry about bringing back AD, Lively, or Gafford.   Hardy out for the short term and I would let PJ fully heal.   If we are still above .500 after March, than you can look at these guys.  I don't expect we are close to .500 though.

-I didn't watch the game but saw some highlights.  Kai Jones is such a beautiful run/jump athlete.  Now, I am sure there are reasons why the Hornets and Clippers gave up on him, but a nice first game.

-Where can I put my money that the Mavs in 1-2 years will pay two seconds to get off Martin's contract? Just want it on record.

-This organization will need to earn me back.    I have thought way too much about this team the last few years.   Heck, my family would be embarrassed how often I thought about the team....and all the hours of watching games.   I am going to take a break from watching and may or may not be engaged this summer.    Not only do I want to see competancy first, but I also want to see compassion.     Both are important.

I think that there will certainly more than some. Much older Butler who was just holding his team on hostage for over a month and is frequently injured got over 100 mil for two seasons. Kyrie has been nothing but a good soldier last two and a half seasons. There are always plenty of desperate teams willing to take such risk.

RE: MAVS NEWS: - F Gump - 03-04-2025

Where the Mavs go from here depends on the buy-in from AD, and perhaps also the availability of KD at the desired cost. This season is toast, but not sure the Nico Grand Plan is dead yet.
