Not looking good, but I still thought this game was a positive step.

Yeah, turnovers were the story of the 4th.

I personally think Jason Kidd is an average head coach. He looked good when he had a generational player on his team.

Look for Flagg to start at PG on Monday against Houston

Got doubled up in the fourth. Only scored 17. I am not sure how many turnovers they had in the fourth but it was a lot. It was a lower turnover game until the fourth.

Good shooting games from D-Lo and Klay and still lost...yikes!

Yikes. The Mavs are pretty below average, and Flagg just hasn’t showed much at all this year. He’s a bricklayer and not nearly as athletic as we thought. That was an ugly game. Mavs are better off tanking to take one more shot in the draft. If Flagg isn’t generational, they’ll need to grab one in the next draft or be relegated to franchise irrelevancy for a generation.

Now it's on to Houston on Monday.

They had a real generational talent and gave him away.. Flagg can be good, but he's no Luka who was special from day one.

RE: Game 6: DAL (2-3) @ DET (3-2) | 9 PM CT - Mavs2021 - 11-02-2025

Takeaways:

1. Re-live is nice. Started watching two hours delayed and still nearly caught up with the final whistle just by skipping all the dead ball situations.
2. Whole game I was thinking, win or lose, it must be nice to be in the EAST. That Detroit team cannot shoot at all. Outside of Cunningham and Duren not much there. Ausar is no Amen.
3. Guess Dwight Powell (and Daniel Gafford) ain´t all that against a good frontcourt. Detroit rammed it down their throat.
4. Cooper Flagg will be fine, but there could be a Franz Wagner ceiling to his game (imho), because he does not seem to have great natural shooting touch. He´s a ridiculously hard worker, as you can tell by his perfect free throw shooting. As such he´ll train himself to become a good 3pt shooter. So he´s a pretty fail safe player, but he is likely not a one man wrecking crew. He will need a partner at least on his level.....
5. In other words....TANK now.

I'm seeing a lot of tank talk and I agree. This team needs to be built around Flagg so he can be as successful as possible to give this team a legit chance at some point. This current team is an embarrassment and just makes me hate Nico even more.

It´s important to not lose sight of the big picture here. The shoes salesman promised fans a title contender, a team better than the Luka-led NBA finalist. He did not promise fans "it was a step in the right direction, if everything clicks we could reach a play-in spot, even while being gifted a #1 pick".

The lack of a pure floor general will make it difficult to close out games and it showed tonight.
Hard to believe we had one superstar PG and one all-star caliber PG both under age 25 on the team together just 3 years ago and now we are starving for one.

How does Nico keep his job??? SMH

Last checked, Dallas didn't shoot the ball particularly well either outside of DLo. I have to give some credit to Detroit's defense. They are a physical team.

Do you think Kyrie, Davis, and Lively were included in the original vision? You talk in absolutes. Yes, those three have a history of injury and that’s a valid discussion but I think it’s unfair to say that the team we’ve seen the first 6 games was part of any original vision.

RE: Game 6: DAL (2-3) @ DET (3-2) | 9 PM CT - ballsrchr - 11-02-2025

Well...I was relegated to Telemundo for this game. So I brushed off my 12 years in school learning spanish and...couldn't...understand 90% of what the commentators were saying. They were just talking faster than I can hear. On a happy note, I did understand about 50% of the commercials.

The game; I could say the Mavs had no defense. We don't need no stickin' defense. Detroit pretty much had their way, especially inside.

I'm not sure the Mavs were ready to play and/or the altitude worked against them. I really don't understand Kidd's game plan, or rotations.

Let's give Cooper Flagg a little time. I just don't like how Kidd is bringing him on. You need to help a young, very young, player keep a high level of confidence. That's not happening right now. I think everybody is expecting too much at this stage of his game.

Interesting game, down in "Old Mexico". I say that because I'm originally from New Mexico!

Bingo. Part of the new NBA is getting, fit and healthy, to the play-offs. You think in this version it was likely Kyrie and AD get their physically fit and healthy, while carrying the burden of being #1 (a/b) options, something neither has been for the last 7-8 years. Years in which they already missed large parts of the seasons. And let´s factor in that Al Bundy has hired his family Peg, Kelly and Bud to run the medical department.

This is what I’m seeing too.  Flagg has flashed pretty good traits but not generational or even all star traits, like his also very young peers, Edge and Harper. Don’t blame the Mavs for drafting him over those guys, every team would have, but wonder why more didn’t see the warning signs at the combine when he measured a little smaller and less athletic than expected. Certainly he was solid in those attributes but not freakish in any way. That means he’ll have to be a great shooter and/or shot creator with great handles to be generational, and I don’t see it. So, he’ll eventually be good but maybe he’s not a get out of jail free card after all, and the franchise still faces a decade of mediocrity at best unless they can find their 1st team all nba quality player some other way.

RE: Game 6: DAL (2-3) @ DET (3-2) | 9 PM CT - Chicagojk - 11-02-2025

I would not read anything much into Cooper. He has certainly been up and down. Finishing inside is definitely an improvement area. I believe that was an issue at Duke too. In the nba finishing against the height and athleticism is really tough. He certainly needs to get better at it.

He plays the right way though and is a winning player. Give him time. I am pretty confident the 15 pt games will pretty quickly become 25 point games once he finds ways to get his points. There will be plenty of ups and downs but he is going to be damn good in time.

Personally o am not invested in DLo at all. He shot the ball well but until this team shows me they can win now, I really don’t care for the guys who I view as 1 or 2 year pieces.

I really hope the defense improves. I knew offense would be hit and miss at stretches but I thought defense would help this. So far the defense has been poor. They are missing players but just a simple action is getting wide open shots.

Agree there is no historical version of Luka, rookie, injured or 13 years old that puts 2 pts and shoots 11%. Not saying Flagg will not become a superstar, but I dont believe he will ever reach Luka level.
