Agree 1000%. You can't get an idiot who did something stupid out of his own "wisdom" to fix his own stupid. It takes someone smarter than him - and he doesn't seem to realize that he doesn't know how to do things and needs super-smart experts around him. So his choice of a fix is likely to make things even worse.

I don't think Nico is an idiot. he is a greedy shameless bastard that would do anything for money but I guess he's not an idiot at all. Nico who is a complete asshole just executed what he was told to do and we all know what/who is the power behind him. a trade committee would work only if some franchise legends (Dirk fin Marion tc and kidd himself etc...) who really love the team are included and have a say. if it's only a board of investors then probably it would make things even worse tbh.

“The Mavericks will have a cautious rehab for AD, and I’m told the expectation is that Davis will need rehab for the coming weeks.”

“Dallas Mavericks center Daniel Gafford will be re-evaluated in two weeks with a right knee sprain”.

They should have signed Alex Len before the Lakers did. I know it's not much, but he is a big.

No money to sign anyone.

On a positive note, we should hear something on Lively soon. The 4 week mark for revaluation is next Wednesday. Maybe all 3 are back around the same time.

The game on March 16th against the 76ers looks like a good target. It’s a home game with 3 days before the next game @ the Pacers.

Gives them 14 games remaining to try and find chemistry.

Would mean:
Lively had 8 weeks to recover.
AD & Gaff had 5 weeks to recover.

Maybe Gaff comes back a bit sooner even.

Can the Mavs stay afloat for 14 more games till then?

Edit with injury timelines:

AD: NBA players with adductor strains typically return to play within 4 to 6 weeks

Gafford: Key points about knee sprain recovery in the NBA:
Grade 1 sprain: Typically heals within 1-3 weeks, allowing a player to return to play relatively quickly.
Grade 2 sprain: Usually takes 4-6 weeks to recover, with most players missing significant game time.

Lively: An ankle stress fracture usually heals in 6 to 8 weeks.

Not practical. AS break is soon.

They have about 170K to spend (minimum salary for full year is about 2.1M), so probably can pay someone for about 2 weeks. My guess is they hold 170K to the last 2 weeks, and then if they want someone, they sign them to rest-of-season (which makes that player playoff eligible too) that may also have a commitment for next season, just in case.

I think they will just limp along with what they have "healthy" for now plus the 2-ways.

Official Mavs wording on Gaff
DALLAS – The Dallas Mavericks announced today that Mavericks center Daniel Gafford sustained a right knee sprain during the Feb. 10 game against the Sacramento Kings.

Gafford will be re-evaluated within two weeks with relevant updates to follow as appropriate.

Is there anyway to sign our G League big guy by waiving someone or making him a two way or some other creative way. Seems like we could sacrifice a small to get a badly needed big who is not already on an NBA team. Even if he only rebounds key free throws we might have won last night.

RE: MAVS NEWS: Nico Harrison is a Basketball Terrorist - F Gump - 02-11-2025

To speak to the specific question, they could sign their "G League big guy" by having him replace an existing two-way player, assuming that player is two-way eligible (which is that this cannot be his 4th or more NBA season).

But they have already done that with Kelley. Seems unlikely they would do another 2-way C.

We also have to recognize that adding another big body to the team via 2-way means nothing. Unless the player is good enough to actually get minutes, he can't get a rebound. Kelley would presumably be ahead of whoever else they added from the G-League, and Kelley played exactly 1 minute last night.

He looks like he wouldn't be much help of what I've seen from him. Maybe block a couple shots ...

Looking through my proposed 14-game absence of Davis, Gafford, and Lively. It's hard to find any easy win. I think the Mavs will be favored in 5 of them. Let's assume that's how many they win, putting their record at 33-35, before a possible return of the Mavs Big's. I think the Mavs can finish 10-4 or 9-5 from there. That puts them at 42 or 43 wins.

The 10th seed in the West last year had 46 wins. The current 9 and 10 seed, Kings and Warriors, are both on pace for 42 wins. The Kings have gotten worse and the Warriors possibly better, post-TDL. Then you have the Suns lurking at 11, on pace for 40 wins, but a true wildcard, with the toughest strength of schedule remaining in the NBA. The Spurs at 12 would have to win 61% (19-12) of their games to reach 42.

Even if the Mavs make the play-in, they will likely have to win two games to even earn the chance to face the 1 seed Thunder. It is becoming more and more difficult to stay positive, but it would be really intriguing to see how a healthy Mavs roster matches up against the best in the West.
