@dalton_trigg
I have a feeling the AD news is bad and the Mavs are just holding it out as long as they can because they realize it’s just going to add to what’s been a disastrous two weeks. I hope that feeling is wrong.

Well, that would explain why Kidd skipped his presser. But, there are other reasons I can think of, too.

Are we sure the plan isn't to move this team to Vegas? This team traded away a beloved superstar player, bashed said player in media, raised ticket prices enormously and are kicking fans out of games for showing any amount of displeasure. Either these guys are trying to get to Vegas or this is the most incompetent business model I have ever seen.

It makes zero financial sense to move the team. A move where the owners have to approve of it too.

If the Adelsons wanted a team in Vegas, they could have bought the upcoming expansion team. The Mavs are too big of a market to move out of.

The only thing we’re seeing played out is weaponized incompetence.

While I don't believe the move to Vegas is the reason, just for discussion purpose. Also I can't judge if or why a team in Vegas would make more sense than a team in Dallas.

The counter argument for the sentence above I think is simple. It is not easy to buy a team, many others want the chance. The expansion itself is also nothing set in stone, only some rumblings that it might happen someday. So no guarantee they would succeed in getting that expansion team if it happens. Mavs were on the table and they took the chance. They would prefer to move that to another location.

I will keep saying it, people underestimate the power of confident idiots. A lot of things that don't make sense usually comes from those.

They could always use the threat of moving as leverage for their casinos in Texas ambitions.

This is at least plausible thinking (imagining they WANT to move the team to Vegas is not), because they obviously want legalized gambling in Texas, and I'm sure they're behind that whole "vote yes for destination resorts" add campaign we're all sick of, but...

The league would have to approve, and they wouldn't.

And, I read somewhere that the Mavs have a 7-year lease with the AAC. I'm sure there are kill clauses, but I bet it's harder to trigger something like that than we realize. Much more difficult than the movie "Major League" would have us believe.

I don't see this as an issue.

I don’t disagree that a team in Vegas makes a LOT of sense for the NBA. So much so that Silver himself has basically already guaranteed them a spot in the upcoming expansion.

The issue is in order to move the Mavericks, you’re going to have to convince 20 other NBA owners that the move from Dallas to Las Vegas makes sense. That is something that is an uphill battle. Dallas as a market in this country is the 4th biggest, behind only New York, LA, and Chicago.

Las Vegas is 40th, behind San Antonio, and Indianapolis. Of course this doesn’t factor in true commercialization with all the casinos and people on vacation in Vegas.. But that alone would not make up a nearly 10 times difference in market size. Plus, you know who won’t buy merchandise for your basketball team? People on vacation from other cities like LA, New York, and Chicago who are already fans of their own basketball team. Merch makes up nearly a third of total revenue for teams, so that is another thing to keep in mind.

Further, even if they manage to convince 2/3rds of owners that it’s in their best interest to give up the 4th biggest market in the country, there are still going to be massive costs associated with the move. Branding, a new stadium, a new practice facility. At some point, it’s just simpler to sell the Mavs now today and use that money to buy an expansion team in Vegas when they offer the bidding in a couple of years.

Again, I know you are in no way advocating or even thinking this is a likely thing. But I wanted to put it all down for anyone actually believing the conspiracy they are trying to tank the team so they can move. It doesn’t make sense anyway you look at it. The most likely explanation is just idiocy. Hanlon’s razor strikes again.

@TheSteinLine
A penalty from the league office is not automatic after Mavericks coach Jason Kidd was not made available to speak to the media after Monday night's loss to Sacramento.

First-time violations of this manner are really greeted with fines.

Beyond that, though, Adam Silver will be doing interviews all week amid All-Star hoopla ... including his annual All-Star press conference.

Surely Silver will be asked to address the rising discontent of a wounded and angry fan base in

“I think he’s going to avoid surgery in the short term, but he’s going to be out a while from what I understand.”

Has there been no news on the Gafford injury? I think that is the bigger concern. I have already come to grips that AD is going to be out 5-6 weeks.

Valiant effort last night, but I have no idea how this team gets any wins without any bigs. It is was a shame, I was about to post how Gafford always shows up to play. Ooops.

Personally I want Nico to stay.  This is his mess.  This is his vision.    Don't take the easy way out.  Although, there should definaely be a trade commitee to evaluate any trades this summer before they happen.

Wild disagree.  I'm afraid the vision is not fully realized yet and more damage will be done in the offseason.  More likely he gets fired than you get a trade committee.  We need real competence from outside the current shit show.
