Windhorst started out as Bron´s personal media assistant, but he´s grown on me. Probably the best big picture analyst ESPN has now. They have better specialists (Lowe, Woj, Marks) but putting all areas together, he´s probably the guy.

It is interesting how MacMahon (who was once thought to be a Mavs hater) is by far the most even in his eval of the Mavs. MacMahon really seems to be setting himself up to enter the upper echelon of the NBA reporter world.

If you are a journeyman, sure. If you have options you want to play with a highly efficient star who doesn’t need the ball in his hands all the time.  Neither of those apply to Luka.

It is like when the Big 3 in Miami came about. They decided to sit down and have a discussion on how the ball was going to be shared. RW despite his gaudy assists has never been someone most like to play with. Same with Bron. OTOH Curry is someone most players would like to play with because he is efficient and willing to play off the ball too. Same with Kd.

Luka needs to slim down, play more defense , move more without the ball and be more efficient.  He is a great player but the way he plays today is not something that would draw me to play with the Mavs if I had other options. And most of the Robin or Batman types always have options.

Told y’all last week “Luka is the problem” narrative was coming…

How delusional can you be to look at this situation and blame the ONE guy keeping this team from being the Kings?

I really have to wonder about the motives of certain posters.

I gotta ask: why do you always spell Luka's name with a "c"?  You're clearly more than just a casual fan who wouldn't know how to spell it, so I figure there's some choice involved.

(And hopefully this doesn't come across as rude, certainly not my intent - I'm just genuinely curious since I've seen it several times)

The best Mavs offense was Luka, JB, and SD doing their own thing and breaking down defenses.  GS defended that very well. IMO Boston would have too.  Whoever wants to sign here will be leery knowing how ball dominate Luka is.

Luka had no problems sharing the ball in Europe.

I would like first to see Luka with another star, to make this a valid problem. KP thought he is one, but could not create for himself or others. Brunson break out only this season and we saw Luka share responsibilities. I can't accept something like this until Mavs actually put a star next to him.

The first year he arrived, reporters were all over the place with the spelling. I probably just picked up a bad habit sometime after he was drafted.

The thing I love  about Luka is not just his ability but also his spirit. Tatum disappeared when clamped down by Wiggins. Luka still fought and got his points. You will never finish a series and wonder where Luka was unlike with someone like Tatum.

However there is a fine line between wanting to go down swinging and swinging by yourself. It is a team game and putting some more effort on defense, playing a bit more without the ball, genuinely looking to see if your teammates have better shots than Jack bad fadeaways, …etc will help Luka fulfill his potential. He will always have great numbers. So did RW and Hardem at their peaks. Offensive numbers are not the be all end all. I am not one who says efficiency is everything but there has to be a time and a place to jack up a few bad shots.

Most folks have already crowned Luka as better than Dirk. For me Dirk is still the king and the title has nothing to do with it. Dirks rebounding in traffic, willingness to play defense, and unselfish but supremely efficient offense means more.  There has to be efficiency and willingness to play hard on both ends. When Luka realizes that, he has the potential to be in the top 5 all time.

Dirk's impact on team winning was FAR better at 23 than Luka's has been. And to me that is the most important metric. I absolutely agree that Luka has a FAR higher ceiling than Dirk. But Dirk was the better TEAM player at this juncture. Once it "clicks" for Luka he has the chance to blitz and sprint past Dirk.

I can only hope Luka works as hard at being a great player as some of y’all do at shifting blame from the front office.

Hey guys is the front office gonna do anything?
No one wants to play with Luka. He’s not on Dirks level yet.

Wait…what does have to do with what we were talking about?

It came about with Kamm quoting some reporter who said that now that RC is gone more players would like to play here.

Just wondering why we have a toxic mod who supposedly hates negativity on the internet but is always negative about Luka, RC, Donnie, etc while Nico is pissing rainbows and sunshine.

Yep. That’s what I’m talking about. 20 minute podcast about the Mavs front office possibly being incompetent and his takeaway was to blame RC.

We all have our favorite players, execs, etc but this shit so obvious and over the top that I really have to wonder about the motives at play here.

RE: MAVS NEWS: Kidd: McGee & SD to start | CW off bench | Lawson Deal incoming? - michaeltex - 07-15-2022

I'll push back and say that Luka is ball dominant because he HAS to be ball dominant for team success. Until JB developed later last season and SD found his balance after the trade, Luka was the engine that made everything go.

It basically boiled down to "who are you going to trust", and often the trust was situational. KP was a disaster as a post-up, but was somewhat reliable in spot up shooting. KP needed tending to try and get his tradability back up. DP was only good as a lob partner. Maxi is another spot up shooter with variable reliability (he went really cold for multiple games at times.) DFS developed more reliability as the season went on, but was trying to drive past closeouts early on with spotty success. Bullard was horrid until after the holidays. Even Brunson would stink it up on offense sometimes.

A lot of these guys wouldn't have the success they had if all eyes weren't on Luka, wondering what he was going to do next.

Kidd wants to lessen the reliance on Luka initiating the offense. He has stated they want to get him playing behind the defense. That requires building trust between teammates and having a roster that can play different sets than 5-out with Luka on top. I think Wood is a good addition, I'm hopeful THJ is better honed after having 9 months to heal and work on improvements. SD knowing expectations are higher will (hopefully) motivate him to take the next step, especially after letting his injuries completely heal. Interested to see if Bertans can up his game or if he's just here for the paycheck.

I'm also thinking if we go back 12 months ago, we were having similar "sky is falling" conversations. Everyone thinks the WCF run was smoke and mirrors, but there is a functional core that is mostly intact with some of the weak spots improved.

This.  Probably why JB left.

The Mavericks literally told Brunson we don’t want you. We’re trying to trade you for a real star. If you take less money to resign here, we’ll probably trade you later.

The Knicks rolled out the red carpet for him, told him we’re family, and gave him more money than the Mavs.

That’s why he left.

What kind of “creative” minds some of you have is quite puzzling to me. Do you know how butthurt I’d be if my employer treated me like that? I’d want out at the first alternative opportunity. Credit to Brunson for showing up and playing hard and still being a pro. Yet we have fans fans talking shit about the guy not wanting to be a winner. Now the blame is shifting to Luka.

What in the world?

Well, he's certainly not the detail guy.  He had the amount of a Brunson generated TPE doubled and conflated the timing of things as Dallas getting an asset could have only happened before the Noel/Burks deal.  Once NY cleared the space the only option Dallas had was to pay a pick, not get one.  To criticize Dallas for missing out on a $27mm TPE by trying to get a pick is just a misunderstanding of the rules and the timing.

RE: MAVS NEWS: Kidd: McGee & SD to start | CW off bench | Lawson Deal incoming? - Tyler - 07-15-2022

Less than 8 weeks ago, Dallas had a WCF appearance after knocking off Utah and Phoenix in franchise-wrecking fashion. Then a short while later we had an awesome upgrade where we addressed our biggest weakness by getting Wood for basically nothing. Times were good!

Today, I see we've resorted to the-sky-is-falling rants and overt questioning of Luka as a leader and teammate. Sure, losing Brunson for nothing was a disappointment. But c'mon.

Mavs fans have got to be some of the most bipolar in the league.

RE: MAVS NEWS: Kidd: McGee & SD to start | CW off bench | Lawson Deal incoming? - KillerLeft - 07-15-2022

Not sure how true this is, but Cato seemed to imply the prize for Dallas in any NY sign and trade would've been Cam Thomas, but that Dallas didn't see that as worth the trouble. They wanted their pick back, apparently, but NY wouldn't go for it.

I really have to wonder about the motives of certain posters.

It's not a knock on Luka but threading the needle on a one way superstar like Luka is going to be challenging for any organization.  Curry has been bolstered by defensive stalwarts like Draymond or amazing two way players like Thompson.  And while the Mavs did this with Dirk, the free agency and trade market game has changed and we certainly haven't kept pace.

I do think Donnie and Rick had a lot of blame in that regard but so far Nico and Kidd haven't faired any better and maybe worse.  Not getting conversations with big named free agents was a trend in recent history.  We couldn't even get a conversation with Jalen Brunson.

And while we have hope for the Christian Wood pairing, no matter how well it works out this could be a very short term relationship.  In my head, even if Wood and Luka play well together, the Mavericks really aren't any better than last year, at least not more than marginally.

I don't think Luka is going to ask out of Dallas anytime soon but we do need to start moving in the right direction.  We accomplished that last year but Jalen walked for nothing.  We can't keep spinning our tires.  The good news is that we will own all of our FRPs after next years draft and the Dwight Powell era will be over.  The bad news is that we still have Bertans terrible contract and Utah is asking for 6 picks for a player of Mitchell's caliber.  We'll never be able to afford that as we don't have a way of generating first round picks.  I'm just not seeing the path to getting off this treadmill.  KP was such a terrible decision by the previous MBT.

It's because of that pick that New York has no incentive to help Dallas but rather the opposite.  They've done really well in this situation.
