6’10. Offensive creator to a fault for others. Big. Strong. Can defend.

Should also be bought out.

Yeah, Simmons is an interesting idea, if he's available.

BUT I don't know if Simmons can create offense effectively,  since he won't shoot. Even though he can get the ball to other players, his defender is always free to double-team the ball, because leaving Simmons does not create a problem. That clogs things.

Otherwise, well, yeah. But I think its well documented that no matter how you try to solve it, that major obstacle isn't going away.

As a buyout, is he worth the experiment? Probably so, unless there is a better buyout option out there. But I am not optimistic on the outcome.

I think Nico addressed this in the press conference. He suggested he'd be sent packing in a few short years. He seemed to suggest that he wants to win right now, and he doesn't care much about what happens after the next 2 or 3 years.

That is all true of what he said, but he's clearly made us worse while other teams have gotten better. He helped make the Lakers contenders. Unless they get KD today, this season is already lost.

Mavs second half strategy....not play any games.
***********************
The Mavs went from 11th to 8th in the West last night without playing a game.

You think Mavs would be better with KD and without half of their rotation? Klay (another influential player insulted), PJ, Gafford would be just a start of players going to Phoenix or other teams.

The Mavs already nuked this team when they sent away our Slovenian prince.

I’d rather we expedite the demise.

I think they would be better, but to what extent who knows. The current team has zero chance of getting to the WCF and most likely not out of the first round. KD, Kyrie and AD can win some series imo and if Lively is back for the playoffs, I think that team is a contender. Without Lively, they would be done. Honestly I'm just ready for Nico to be fired and the rebuild to start. This team is fucked.

I think the thesis that Nico doesn't expect or plan to be here very long is a complete misread of what Nico said, and that misread is skewing the conversation into ideas that don't exist.

The NBA  is a world where NO ONE has an extended shelf life in any particular job. BUT admitting that (which is all Nico did, for both himself and Kidd), isn't an expression of WANTING or even EXPECTING to leave.

Nico took a big chance, no doubt. He put his neck on the line in this one. It has to make the Mavs better. But I don't get any sense he's wanting to be elsewhere, and think he's saying to himself, 'You all hate me now, but you'll thank me later.' And whether he's made the right call will determine his own future.

RE: MAVS NEWS: Nico Harrison is a Basketball Terrorist - GermanMav - 02-06-2025

Didn't do anything today AND blocked themselves from the buyout market. He probably doesn't even know this by now, but Nico is the ultimate tank commander. No chance in hell this team makes the playoffs. Unfortunately to many wins already to have a realistic shot at a top 4 pick.

I agree with your interpretation, and at the time took it that way with a slightly bad taste in mouth about how that joke was delivered and when, but not so much about what he meant.

But the next day, there was a report (can't remember from where or how credible, sorry) that people around the league have come to believe that Harrison doesn't plan to stay in Dallas very long. My interpretation of THAT nugget pushed me to retroactively see the press conference comments in a different light, and to be honest, part of me thinks it makes a ton of sense. I just can't find any other justification for placing Kyrie's timeline on a higher pedestal than Luka's. NOW, post trade, you MUST get on a shorter timeline, due to Kyrie AND AD, but that's a hurdle he imposed on himself, so to me, the thought that he's thinking short term about even having the job (whether on his own terms or because GM's get "buried" quickly, per his joke) tracks.

But, I also think your interpretation (which matched my own at the time) could be correct, and that he really, really just thinks Luka is a dead end as an investment at the SuperMax level.

RE: MAVS NEWS: Nico Harrison is a Basketball Terrorist - Chicagojk - 02-06-2025

Well I always like trade deadline day. It brought me back into the fold a little. I will probably have very little analysis of the actual games moving forward.

I am not going to lie, I log in with my phone and see the post Luka traded to the Lakers and it keeps on feeling like a bad dream happening all over again. Ground hog day.

All I got to say is Kon Knuepel better have been worth all of this Smile

That's fair enough. He did say that he thought this move was good for now and the future of the Mavs.

However, the only "future" consideration that I can see in this move is that he doesn't want to be hitched to Luka long term, and he doesn't want to pay Luka. The trade itself doesn't address the future like trades of superstars typically do.

He did mention most likely not being around twice. There are GMs that have good long runs with a team. Do you think it's odd that he'd mention that twice? Seems like "not being here long" was on his mind. He didn't have to bring it up at all.

RE: MAVS NEWS: Nico Harrison is a Basketball Terrorist - Chicagojk - 02-06-2025

I mean most of the guys available are probably not better than Dinwiddie. I just want to be over that experience. As is, him and Exum will need to carry a lot of weight. Not a great place to be to take pressure off Kyrie. Especially with health concerns with Exum.

Anyway, regardless what happens. Next year they need a complete revamp of their offensive philosphy. The iso ball without Luka is not very fun.

So they are just going to elevate Edwards and call it a day, huh?

I don't place any significance in that, and just feel it's an acknowledgement of the truth that he's taken a HUGE risk, and if it goes badly, he's gone. He's rationalizing the downside by stating it aloud. imo

Perhaps, but given their cap situation, not now. He can be two way for now.

They can't offer a rest of season deal until very late in the season with only 150K or so to spend. That's maybe 2 weeks at minimum salary, but it can also be tied to a NG for next season, which is helpful if he's a real keeper.

The thesis was that Nico is not concerned about long term impact and is only concerned about the next two or three years.  If the news is true that he was going hard for KD (which surely would have cost our last remaining future assets) then that thesis looks legit.  That is a two year window move that leaves this franchise in shambles for many years after.

RE: MAVS NEWS: Nico Harrison is a Basketball Terrorist - Chicagojk - 02-06-2025

Odd roster. Good centers or big players. Lack of ball creation and lack of really knock down shooters. Should be a fun watch.

RE: MAVS NEWS: Nico Harrison is a Basketball Terrorist - Chicagojk - 02-06-2025

defense wins championships, but the majority of time we are relying on Kyrie, Klay and Spencer to chase around the elite guards.

Maybe once Martin gets out of his body cast he could help there.

RE: MAVS NEWS: Nico Harrison is a Basketball Terrorist - fifteenth - 02-06-2025

I think the "defense wins championships" thing is silly, in any sport

Teams that win championships are usually good at both
