It’s an all time great draft I hear. It’s tank time. I’d aim for 12th in the west. That should get you a 9th or 10th pick with a fighting chance to get into the top 3. I just hope DLive doesn’t have a persistent career limiting foot issue.

I just don't think you can consider a tank now. That is a loser move. You won't get down to the dreck of the league anyway. This roster is pretty well built. Need to see if they can fight and tread water. TWo years ago that roster was awful and it took an act of god to get Luka to sit out a game at the end of the year. I said at the time that was the Mavs one mulligen. You don't get another chance. Now if Luka has a setback or gets hurt again, then maybe we change focus a little. A lot of time before that though. And, if they sink and lose a tone of games than you think about certain things. But you can't tell Luka to take the rest of the year off, or tell Kyrie and Klay that this year is toast. That is not how it is done.

5) Omax gets backup 4 minutes and has a chance to show he can be a solution here moving forward.

Mavs won't tank and should not.  They got their one chance two years ago and that team was much worse than this one.  But this appears to be an uphill battle for them to get into the top 6.    Got to hope they stay close and then get a healthy Luka back for the last few months.

Agree with all of this.  Can't see a reason to make any TDL moves now.  Not full tank mode but take it easy on Kyrie and lets see what the kids can do.

When is Luka supposed to be back?

RE: MAVS NEWS: Lively’s Foot Broken Out 2-3 Months - Chicagojk - 01-22-2025

I really hope Dallas priortizes tonights game against Minny. Because tomorrow nights game at OKC is going to be a bloodbath. Tonigtht should be the game we go hard for unless our training staff has introduced the bubonic plague into the locker room.

I kind of thought that last time. And then we leveraged the better draft position to make roster changes that helped propel the team to the finals. This team is cooked for the year, even if they make the playoffs. You want Gaff on your team for the regular season, but he’s a pure backup in the playoffs. Sometimes, you just accept reality. I’m down for adding a cheap top 10 pick in an excellent draft. Thats the opportunity that doesn’t come again. Nico does a pretty good job drafting. Pretty much every championship caliber team plays this game.

And, they’re not making the playoffs without winning in the play in. The 6th seed is out of reach. It’s far better to regroup and come back strong revitalized next year.

RE: MAVS NEWS: Lively’s Foot Broken Out 2-3 Months - KillerLeft - 01-22-2025

Well, I'll say this: I don't think the Mavs WILL pack it in for the year and do anything remotely close to tanking.

BUT, if they wanted to do that (again, they probably don't), trading Gafford, with Lively out, would be a damn efficient way of getting it done.

RE: MAVS NEWS: Lively’s Foot Broken Out 2-3 Months - JamesConway912 - 01-22-2025

That’s rough news. I don’t have a clue on how far Luka is along with his injury rehab but this certainly makes me hope we won’t rush him back.

The second Kyrie goes down the season is over. I hope they keep a close look on his workload and don’t put too much pressure on him.

There’s a chance they make it to the 8th seed or at least a playin spot but that’s probably the ceiling now.

What a rotten season. I was really high on this squad.

Does anyone know what type of cardio you can do with a calf injury?

Are you talking about when we tanked two games at the end of the season?  That is completely different than tanking over half a season.

It all depends on Luka.  If he is able to come back relatively soon, I don't see any chance they shut him down for the rest of the season.  If he can't come back for a long while and we dig a big enough hole, there might be a conversation, but I think we are a ways from that yet.

Whether we call it tanking or not, I want them to prioritize ‘optionality’ over pursuing a top six seed at this point.  I argued this summer that a serious contender would make an effort to be in the top 2-3 in the west to make the playoff run easier.

With that now out the window, I have no issue with slow playing Luka’s return and dropping a few spots in the standings.  IF you end up between the 8th and 9th spots the last week of the season and you are healthy, grab the 8th slot, win one game and you avoid OKC.  If you aren’t healthy, drop to 9th, lose a game and you have a nice draft pick.

In much the same way that most don’t want us to use assets to get a temporary fix at center, I don’t want us to avoid making a good long term deal just because people perceive we need this player or that.  I’m not saying to give up on 24/25.  Maybe there is a world where everyone is healthy come April.  Great, make the deal that assumes that as long as that deal sets us up well for the next 2-3 years.  If we aren’t healthy, avoiding a good trade because we think we need someone to be mediocre in the near-term is a bad idea IMHO.

Four weeks is SIGNIFICANTLY different than 2-3 months, especially with Gafford on the roster filling in, with Kleber/Powell behind him. That 4-6 week range is doable. Let's hope for the best!

RE: MAVS NEWS: Lively’s Foot Broken Out 2-3 Months - myconsumerclub - 01-22-2025

just stealth tank to position yourself to win if it looks like we can get enough guys healthy to compete and if not you are a lower seed and positioned to get more help in the draft with your picks, then you can trade assets like Kleber and others that do not show themselves to be keepers in the final part of the season. With Gafford Grimes Klay Ky and PJ we have a decent enough starting team and then depth is somewhat still there with Naji Grimes Hardy Din Kleber and Omax plus now you got a chance to see Gortman and Williams win some play time. That is almost a contender and with Doncic back it probably can beat almost anyone. We got to the western finals with a worse team than this. With the guys we got we can position ourselves to sneak into the playoffs and be able to have the option to tank out with a better position and snag a higher pick if things don't work out but then we can still be there to decide on what we need to do if Doncic is better in time to make a fight of it. I think we can win without home court so I am not worried about that. Luka magic wins it for us all the time. I do however see some guys that I want to draft in this years draft and that 7' forward that plays like a guard is really making me want to tank now. Or if you take the 7'1 or 2" twins later on in the second that also works out to our benefit far as I am concerned.

probably factoring in our training staff.

Here is the video of them bringing in Lively tonight at the stadium.
