RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: HOU Could Trade Sengun for KD? | - SleepingHero - 06-26-2024 The Trade Deadline (@_TradeDeadline) "I think the Pacers are active, from what I understand." "I think TJ [McConnell] is pretty much untouchable." "I do think the Pacers are interested in some names. I don't think it's going to be like an all-star level player." Why on earth would Lindsey endorse bringing in a guy he knows totally collapsed during the playoffs? Because at the end of the day that's how bad the Pistons are. Some reasons why the Pistons would value and actually desire THJ:
The Pistons aren't even trying to win any time soon. So yes, to us, a team actually trying to win it all, THJ has zero value and is a ballast. But to a team like the Pistons, he could be very coveted unironically. Why on earth would Lindsey endorse bringing in a guy he knows totally collapsed during the playoffs? Detroit is in the business of gathering as many assets as possible. THJ + pick(s) now and then a few months later trading his expiring at the TDL for more pick(s) isn’t a bad deal. IF Timmy has the start he did last year a contender could very easily give up something substantial at the TDL. Or teams just wanting to get off extra money. He most definitely will be a positive asset at the TDL regardless, how much so varies. The alternative, if we’re simply using Grimes as a return instead of Tim as a straight salary dump… Does Detroit see Grimes in their long term plans? He’ll be extension eligible this year and the previous coach/GM that accepted him as the return in a trade for Bogdanovic is no longer employed by the Pistons. What can the new GM get for Grimes at the moment that better aligns with their vision? Is getting Tim and pick(s) plus X and pick(s) at the TDL a good use of cap space and opportunity? So the conversation was maybe like, Nico: No Trajan, you can’t talk to Lindsey till our THJ deal is firm. Trajan: It’s a deal. Lindsey: What the hella you thinking, Tra??? Boston’s front office is attempting to thread the needle between infusing some young talent into the franchise and adding more draft capital to the cupboard to add ammo for future moves.” (Via http://bit.ly/3XHJZU4) RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: HOU Could Trade Sengun for KD? | - RoyTarpleysGhost - 06-26-2024 [Murdock] League sources believe Andrew Wiggins, who struggled to find a consistent role last season, will be aggressively dangled in trade talks. The Warriors are also working hard to find a trade partner for Chris Paul. Wiggins fits that mold. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: HOU Could Trade Sengun for KD? | - RoyTarpleysGhost - 06-26-2024 (06-26-2024, 01:48 PM)KillerLeft Wrote: Seems like they're screwed, to me. DJJ is # 10. Don't take his salary very seriously. He uses some kind of formula and a lot of times it is way off with reality. ******************* 10. Derrick Jones Jr., Dallas: $12,590,449 The conundrum for the Mavericks is that Jones established himself as being worth the nontaxpayer MLE or something close to it, but right now, Dallas can’t pay him that much. He’s coming off a minimum deal with no Bird rights, and the capped-out Mavs would have to dip into exception money to pay him. Alas, Dallas would have to get under the tax apron first before it can shell out the nontaxpayer MLE. That likely involves trading either Tim Hardaway Jr. or Maxi Kleber to limbo under the bar. If the Mavs can’t pull it off, rival suitors will likely await with checkbooks out. Jones, who is somehow still only 27, shot a respectable 34.3 percent from 3 and played exquisite wing defense last season. What I don't get is HOW they'd get him. So ironic that GS and LAC are basically the two franchises most targeted by these new rules and we're talking about a potential deal between them. I just can't bring myself to expect that level of deal for Jones, the more I think about it. I don't think he'd be grossly overpaid at that number, as long as he continues to improve, but given the landscape out there and the belief that he wants to come back, I just feel like we're looking at something more in the $8-10M range. We'll see. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: HOU Could Trade Sengun for KD? | - Chicagojk - 06-26-2024 I can't get there with Wiggins. He had one great year and a few other solid/good years. His contract is too much risk though. I know he had some kind of unspecified off court issues, but players typically play well in the GS system. Seeing him not being the same player for the past two years really scares me off. IF GS does decide to blow things up in a year or so and go young, I would be interested in crazy Draymond though. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: HOU Could Trade Sengun for KD? | - Chicagojk - 06-26-2024 (06-26-2024, 02:04 PM)KillerLeft Wrote: I just can't bring myself to expect that level of deal for Jones, the more I think about it. We'll see. I think that is probably pretty accurate...unless someone came in with a crazy offer. Not sure I see that though. I just want to get DJJ signed first...hopefully using a Hardaway trade. My fear is DJJ may look at other options if we made a trade for a starting level SF. Lets sign DJJ first and then see if anything else pops over the offseason. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: HOU Could Trade Sengun for KD? | - KillerLeft - 06-26-2024 It's also worth remembering that the Mavs have been able to pre-negotiate with Jones for some time (basically, since the finals ended, I assume). Teams are allowed to work with their own free agents leading up to the draft. Whatever it is he's going to get, they've already agreed to it, and now it's just a matter of doing the work of making it possible. If we believe ANY of the rumors we're hearing on ANY level, it seems really possible that they're not worried about executing this stuff at all. It's as if they've already gotten it figured out and are now looking around to see what else/more they can do. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: HOU Could Trade Sengun for KD? | - omahen - 06-26-2024 Seems like Mavs have some THJ deals possible. Detroit was mentioned and that one is obviously a July deal with low probability it involves any 2024 draft assets (Detroit has #5 and #53). So Mavs can keep this one fluid, if something better appears. The Washington rumors (Shamet) might depend more on what will be going on in the draft. Perhaps there was Washington #26 involved in discussions. Washington might use this pick to trade up, there still needs to be a player Mavs like available at #26,... RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: HOU Could Trade Sengun for KD? | - omahen - 06-26-2024 Stein said in his newsletter today, that Mavs are working directly with THJs agent to find a new home for him. |
