It was a miss, but I loved seeing Flagg take that pick and pop 3 with no hesitation.

Flagg's burst off of a screen is insane. Seems like he can get around anyone at any time.

All that is just math. Someone needs to run the team while Kyrie is out. The Mavs can shuffle the end of bench however they want. Nembhard is better than a two-way.

Flagg in transition is lethal.

Despite averaging 8 APG in college, he´s more Brunson than Nash. But there is something to work with.

a lot of his misses have been good looks
probably going to be the same all year. just gotta keep shooting those. love how aggressive he's been
he could also have a few more assists too. people keep missing the open shots

It's harder than you're making it out to be and it's a little silly.

Nembhard is essentially already on the roster and locked up. He can play in as many as 50 regular season games. He just will not be eligible for the playoffs.

There is no reason to add to the complication of the roster crunch by giving him a guaranteed deal to the main roster for an extra 32 games and playoff availability.

Pretty weird the Mavs have barely run any PnR so far. That has been Nemby's bread and butter. It's also was one of Coopers best plays in college.

I'd like to see more PnR in the 2nd half.

Love the aggressiveness by Flagg and Kelly, and Nembhard so far. Using Summer League exactly how it's intended.

My takeaway from the first half:

I may have been more impressed with the undrafted, two-way guys, than I was the #1 overall pick and that’s a good thing because that Flagg dude is going to be just fine. I think his handles are going to hold up ok in the NBA and his burst is something that stands out as being elite.

I think his shooting, especially from 15ft+ is something he’s going to have to focus on and get better at before he unlocks his full potential.

Nembhard can play in the NBA. When I watched his highlights a week or so ago I thought he was a great playmaker but not much of a scorer. He’s obviously come out this first half to show that he can get to his spots and score some. If he’s a pest on the defensive end like some other notable small guards, he can have a long career in the league.

Miles can shoot and he had a lot of hustle plays. Love his energy and think he can play some minutes year one in a pinch.

Overall the Mavs have 3 pretty good ones. Well done. On to the second half. See if Coop gets his shot going.

summer league is tough to evaluate, but promising that Flagg looks comfortable with the ball in his hands. I have visions of him being a deadly chess piece that makes it very difficult for teams to match up against.

I liked Kelly's first half. Seems to have a real knack to move without the ball and has a quick shot. Will need to watch to see how he defends, but that is a skill set that may get him to stick around for a while if he can make shots.

Nembhard impressive mid range game. Some nice passes that didn't lead to assists. He should play well in these summer league games. The size is a big concern but he looks good.

Everyone else didn't really stick out. It looks like Ajinca is in street clothes. Sharp just doesn't have it. Just shows you how good you need to be when an athletic 7'5 guy is just sort of ok out there.

RE: Summer League Game 1: 7pm CST on ESPN - SleepingHero - 07-10-2025

Truly love that Cooper is just shooting through the nerves. All the shots he's taking are good shots that just aren't falling.

RE: Summer League Game 1: 7pm CST on ESPN - SleepingHero - 07-10-2025

See that right there wont show up in the box score but Flagg just saved that layup by coming weakside forcing the kickout.

Plus, it was one half of one game. A summer league game.

Yeah, Sharp isn't it. Too bad. I had a little hope after last summer.

Thankfully this team doesn't desperately need a center like so many years past.

RE: Summer League Game 1: 7pm CST on ESPN - SleepingHero - 07-10-2025

Flagg really has shown such a good skill of being able to draw that foul in the face of ball pressure.

RE: Summer League Game 1: 7pm CST on ESPN - KillerLeft - 07-10-2025

It's gonna take time to adjust to the NBA 3 (especially considering Legler's observation about the side spin), but at least he knows he MUST shoot when his defender goes under.

RE: Summer League Game 1: 7pm CST on ESPN - SleepingHero - 07-10-2025

Legler with a great point about Flagg being able to handle/pass the ball without turning it over. I am truly surprised at how clean his handle has been. He's been able to get into the lane at will despite being almost triple-teamed every drive down.

RE: Summer League Game 1: 7pm CST on ESPN - Mavs2021 - 07-10-2025

One thing that never changes for SL. Mavs can´t find people that know how to shoot a 3. 3-20. I´m still very unimpressed with Flagg´s rebounding. For all his perceived athletism, I think he´d get zero rebounds in a one on one battle with Luka, cause he´s not a natural.

RE: Summer League Game 1: 7pm CST on ESPN - SleepingHero - 07-10-2025

Whoever that #37 is is surprising me. Has always made the right play so far.
