I was hoping they'd finally die

Kerr's system paired with the greatest shooter to ever live is a scary thing to face in a 7 game series. Their addition of playoff killer Butler makes me even more weary to face them.

RE: AROUND the NBA: - Chicagojk - 02-28-2025

I never bought into the talk last year that these Timberwolves were set up to be a force in the Western Confernce for the forseeable furture. Ant is a star, but I saw a lot of holes. The KAT trade was a surprise, but looking at their owner mess you knew a deep pocket owner was not going to keep that team together.

Where are they now though? Randle didn't work out. Conley has shown his age. Gobert will eventually show his age. I actually like some of their unproven youngsters but it is tough to count on them outside of potential good role players. While Edwards is great, I think he has proven he still needs to mature. That is normal, but he does not feel like a guy who sets the tone and help others try to reach the next level.

So what is their plan moving forward? How do they put a roster together that can compete for a top 4 seed year in, year out?

RE: AROUND the NBA: - Chicagojk - 02-28-2025

I have seen a few of the Suns games recently. That team has checked out. It is a poorly constructed roster, but they are a clear example of what happens when "going all in" doesn't work. Their depth is awful. Tough to find multiple minimum guys/ cheap rookies to fill in a holes on a contender. KD looks like he is going through the motions. It is also an example when it doesn't work out for these "all in" teams, don't expect your stars to go vengenance can't lose mode. In most cases, you get them looking who thir next spot will be. They will leave all the carnage behind.

Stick a fork in them, they're done...

This is right where we will be headed for if Nico pulls the KD trigger.

Yes, it seems we will be the new Phoenix Suns or Brooklyn Nets...

I think if we trade for KD, I will be more out on this team than I am right now after trading away Luka.

What's happening with the Suns is exactly what happened with the Nets when KD and Kyrie got Steve Nash fired because they didn't need a coach.

edit: damn I should've read the posts above me first

[Charania] Philadelphia's Joel Embiid has been ruled out for the season.

I felt this was coming as soon as Shams said they were exploring major knee surgeries for the dude.

His career might be done. Crazy to think it could be over that quick but here we are.

Never mind

RE: AROUND the NBA: - Chicagojk - 02-28-2025

brutal year for the Magic. speaking of though, a healthy Suggs would fit perfect with this team. Finding a healthy one who is gettable is the tricky spot. Knee injuries were always going to be a concern.

Tough blow: Orlando Magic guard Jalen Suggs is out indefinitely due to a trochlea injury in his left knee, sources tell ESPN. During his return to play, Suggs experienced discomfort and had further testing. He's expected to make a full recovery.

I'm definitely not interested in seeing KD suit up for the Mavs. Especially since they would have to give up valuable young pieces to get him. No thanks.

RE: AROUND the NBA: - Chicagojk - 02-28-2025

Boston is really good. I really can't see even a really good Cleveland team beating a healthy Boston team in the playoffs. We will see though.

Nico referenced Cleveland when discussing our bigs. I can see some similarities. Although to be honest, Lively really would need to take a pretty big offensive leap soone. But watching Cleveland play, the Mavs need to really improve their shooting and they desperately need another really good creator/scorer. Having Garland and Mitchell create havoc with the dribble is such a luxury.

This team has valuable young pieces?

There is only 1 dude who is under 25 I'd trade on the team currently and that's Lively. Everyone else is of course available for the right price. KD, even at this stage of his career, is still an All-NBA all-star level guy who can EASILY score 25+ a night on 50/40/90.

I would love KD on the Mavs. My only caveat is that I'd want to keep PJ+Lively in the trade if we really want to compete. Those two are bonafide studs. Klay as well but we need to send out money unfortunately.

Omax, Hardy, Martin, Naji, Gafford, Powell, are all expendable.

I think Nico is smart enough to start a trade negotiation with Gafford, Omax, etc, and dumb enough to end a trade negotiation with Lively and/or PJ.

RE: AROUND the NBA: - The Jom - 02-28-2025

Young valuable pieces: Lively, Christie

Technically, yes. Two is plural.

Forgot about Christie. Sure ok 2.

I stand corrected. Keep those guys, PJ, make the league change the rules just for the Mavs for 1 trade so we can keep Klay, and we can rock and roll with:

Kyrie/plan powder/Dinwiddie
Klay/Christie/Exum
KD/lol who cares
AD/PJ/merry minimum
Lively/we don't have room/

RE: AROUND the NBA: - FireNicoHarrison - 03-01-2025

I like D-Liv very much but can he play more than 50 games a season? Another 50 season and we have to talk about his availability on the court.

Christie is a good prospect, nothing special right now... Hyped too much because he is the only part of the Doncic trade who can play basketball in these days.
