Probably propaganda, right @"mavsluvr"? Yeah Fin+GM may suck, but I am ready to give them my full support and benefit of the doubt! Hey, they said JET wasn't really likely so I didn't include that. But I would LOVE JET on the coaching staff. His irrational confidence is totally needed on the sideline. RE: NEWS: Donnie Nelson out | Forde's Sportsology to assist | no chance on Ujiri? - cjeter24 - 06-23-2021 I could also see Mavs trying to get Kidd here as an assistant if he's not a HC again. Nate Tibbetts might be an assistant hire for Mosley. He was the associate HC in Portland and from Dame's social media posts it sounds like all the Blazers coaching is out. He worked with Mosley in Denver several years. You may see alot of the assistants coming back. But in general, the news that he thinks he already deserves to be the head coach is sort of a red flag. It's good to have ambitious assistants, but an unearned sense of entitlement may not play well on a team actively looking to stamp out internal power struggles. Probably propaganda, right @mavsluvr? You seem dismissive of this, but I almost always assume that what I read is crafted to suit someone's purpose. I'm not suggesting that this isn't an accurate summary of the podcast, or that Followil or Dameris are intentionally misleading anyone, but it's certainly possible that someone is feeding them exactly what they think will make us more excited about these likely upcoming choices, no? I feel you are familiar with this concept, as you've written like 4-5 times that you don't accept the full extent of what was suggested about Voulgaris in the Cato/Amick article, pointing out that the multiple sources were likely his enemies, stretching the truth a bit to paint a certain picture. For what it's worth, I think there's probably some truth to that (astute), although there's McMahon's quote that you could "throw a dart" and find someone willing to talk behind Voulgaris' back to consider, as well as this clip that seems to suggest Voulgaris was singularly hated as much or more than anyone Amick has come across in his entire career in journalism. https://youtu.be/cYFw7FCaZq0 So think about it: if you're Cuban and you feel about the Cato/Amick article about how you, Kammrath do, which I find likely, wouldn't you be pretty eager to fight back? I've been waiting for the Fish article to drop, but I guess that really isn't a thing these days. And, I'm not even saying this is fluffed, which I feel you are stating about the Cato/Amick thing. I'm suggesting it as a possibility. You know, to add nuance to the conversation. And again, like you, I like what I read just now. I hope it works! One thing I'm not sure is very clear, even to speculate about incorrectly (as we do) is how Finley views Voulgaris. Was Finley Mark's guy? Donnie's guy? Was he a source for the article? We just have no idea. Gonna be interesting. And most of what we have been told about what is to come is still in the prediction category. Things can always change from one minute to the next, and probably will. Interesting, indeed! More inconsistency. 12 months ago Cuban didn´t trust Finley´s basketball judgment over an analytics person with a Playstation background, when it came to make a singular 1st round draft pick, but today suddenly he is the most qualified person to oversee the whole basketball operations side. ![]() Just once I´d like Cuban to follow something simple like A > B > C--- > A > C RE: NEWS: Donnie Nelson out | Forde's Sportsology to assist | no chance on Ujiri? - Tyler - 06-23-2021 (06-23-2021, 09:16 PM)mavsluvr Wrote: Brian mentioned that Finley has run the draft for the past several years. Organizing the draft process is one of the first things Finley did when he joined the organization. I remember him talking about how surprised he was that Dallas would roll into draft night with a bunch of scouts on completely different pages and no draft board. https://www.dallasnews.com/sports/mavericks/2016/06/27/michael-finley-explains-how-the-mavericks-ditched-their-sketchy-draft-room-discussions-of-years-past/ RE: NEWS: Donnie Nelson out | Forde's Sportsology to assist | no chance on Ujiri? - KillerLeft - 06-23-2021 (06-23-2021, 09:24 PM)mavsluvr Wrote: And most of what we have been told about what is to come is still in the prediction category. This might be incredibly naive of me, and I might look like an idiot in a week (like when I wrote that I thought Carlisle would make it one more year about 2.5 hours before they told us he was stepping down) but I feel like so many people (including those who are employed by the team) are suggesting that Finley and Mosley are good choices that those decisions have already been made. I am curious to see who this "outside hire" for GM might be, though. It might be a needle mover for me. I do think it will be a first time GM, which I don't like at all, but then again the prospect of building a team around Luka might be enticing enough to attract the best of the first-time GM hopefuls. Can you summarize it? Key Quote: Quote:"In the past, we've had some pretty sketchy draft-room discussions. ... I guess sketchy is the wrong word. I just think it was in some of the past drafts that I witnessed, there wasn't a clear-cut favorite among the scouts. The scouts had their favorite guys and sometimes they were pushing for those guys instead of having a collective feel on one particular guy," Finley told the station. *Insert A.J. Hammons joke here.* ![]() There's also more to the story than that one quote, but I just can't find good sources right now. Basically, Finley brought order to a pretty lackluster draft process. I've always thought this was a good example of how 1. Donnie was a lot less organized than you'd think for a GM, and 2. Finley was a productive professional influence that the organization needed. That's one reason I think he can still have a strong role with the team now. Assistant Coach and a hefty payday... I don't have access to DMN. Am I crazy, or is the "sketchy" environment he's talking about almost as bad as what the rumored situation was for this past year's draft? I really hope Finley was not on team Voulgaris. (06-23-2021, 09:39 PM)ClutchDirk Wrote: JJB if only to keep Luka happy and someone who can tell him what he needs to do or work on... Yeah, I think JJ being around for Luka is great. I think JJ cashing more checks from this franchise is great. And, I think JJ being around to tutor Brunson and Tyrell Terry can't hurt, either, if either/both is still here. That would pretty well iceberg any and all conceptions of him being able to be the Cynt of the basketball side, if he was pro-Bob and everyone else in the entire organization short of Mark wanted his head on a stake. |
