RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: ATL Fire Sale? NOP Wants Young? DAL Likes Shamet? - SleepingHero - 06-24-2024 (06-24-2024, 12:35 PM)KillerLeft Wrote: It really is getting a little ridiculous. Yeah I think they've made it a bit too prohibitive to make trades now imo. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: ATL Fire Sale? NOP Wants Young? They are one of the few teams just straggling the cap line. Great. So if I am reading right, if they did this they can sign DJJ for the MLE and still have money available. What happens if they can pawn off Powell for nothing. Would that be enough for a Covington, Batum ( I would love him but I think he gets more), or some other veteran. It just feels like it is going to be tough to find minutes for this type of player, even if they deserve it. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: ATL Fire Sale? NOP Wants Young? Detroit obviously has all the cap space in July. Washington is unlikely to have cap space, but they have Shamet (as a way to cut pay) and some other potentially interested players. Atlanta and Miami don't have players that would help reduce Mavs payroll by using THJ. It could indicate Mavs have other ways to resign DJJ RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: ATL Fire Sale? NOP Wants Young? Atlanta and Miami don't have players that would help reduce Mavs payroll by using THJ. If DJJ accepts the 1+1 TP-MLE, the Mavs summer gets a hell of a lot easier. I don't think he's going to do it, but seeing some of the random names floated the last 3 or 4 days (Jerami Grant, Tobias Harris) and now the Hawks (Bogdanovic?) and Miami (Duncan Robinson?), I'm just a tad bit more hopeful. It just feels like it is going to be tough to find minutes for this type of player, even if they deserve it. If they send Powell for air, just add 4 million flat to the numbers. So they can take back up to ~31 mil in a 2 for 3 trade. They'd have ~9 mil of room before the 1st apron (regardless of any trade). Is 9 mil enough for Batum? Covington? Maybe. BAE is 4.7 mil. Until then we're in 2023-24. As long as the Mavs trade for Shamet before his guarantee the Mavs can do a trade and dump pretty easily. You do have to guarantee enough of his 24-25 salary to make the trade match legal. Same with CP3. They aren’t trading him as an instantly vanishing trade chip. Those don’t exist anymore. I think the play here is to trade match Shamet for THJ. That gets you about $7.5m under the apron with no cushion. Then you S/W him as others have mentioned. That gets you $14mm under the apron. If you do the protected 2025 for Washington #26 thing that I’ve brought up before, it costs you $2.6mm to pay for the rookie. But, you were going to need a minimum wage guy at $2.0mm anyway. Now you have $11.5mm left to fund a cushion under the apron and pay DJJ a starting wage of about $10.0-$10.5mm Edit: You only have to guarantee enough of Shamet’s salary to make the trade legal. So, depending on timing, that might save a few more dollars. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: ATL Fire Sale? NOP Wants Young? Given how much of a difference FVV, OG and Siakam made on their new teams, it seems that they were the drivers of their "success". But necessary contracts like this one also show why teams might be so incredibly hesitant to dish out the big bucks for players in their early to mid 30s now. Thompson obviously can´t find a 72/3 offer. Clippers are telling PG 13: good luck finding 50M p.a. in the open market. I wonder whether we could actually do a S&T DeRozan 54/3 for THJ/Powell +2nd round picks, where we actually gain some flexibility toward the DJJ re-signing. The rest coming from a different Kleber trade. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: ATL Fire Sale? NOP Wants Young? Maybe I dreamt all of this but there was also mention of Coulibaly playing the two. Think I saw it on Reddit. Poole Coulibaly Kuzma or Avdija Sarr center/Mitchell Robinson It doesn’t seem like every team in the league wants to play small ball. I agree the simple solution seems to be to plug Sarr in at center. Edit: the link Chicago just posted also mentions the interest in Mitchell Robinson. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25:ATL Fire Sale? Jackson averaged 10.2 points and 3.8 assists in 82 games. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: ATL Fire Sale? NOP Wants Young? Teams will naturally get bigger as the bigger players get more skilled. It's not moving away from small ball so much as it's the athletes and lower level training catching up to the new realities of what skills are required from each position. I don't think Sarr is a forward, but don't know his game well enough yet to declare anything strongly. I know playing Kuzma at the 3 would be a huge mistake. I know that the way I know the sky is blue. Playing the 3 means you're going to get cross-matches with guards and quicker, offensively dangerous wings. Not where I'd want to be with Kuzma, Tobias Harris, or many of the other names we discuss around here. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25:ATL Fire Sale? WAS/MIA/DET/ATL Spots for THJ?
