I think he's incredibly overrated. For his reputation at doing well with trades, he's such a hard negotiator that no one wants to trade with him (that's not due to fear, but because his prices tend to be ridiculously high), so he gets nothing done. If you're willing to money-whip someone and get your guy at whatever cost, the guy to pursue is Presti. Oh absolutely. If I had a choice I would go after Presti and pretty much give him anything he wants. I personally don't think there is a better GM than him. Only 2 dudes I don’t trade is Lively and Christie just because of their age and upside. Plus they are still extremely cheap for the next couple of years too. Everyone else could/should be made available and probably should be traded to expedite this whole process. But it’s not going to happen. And I gotta admit it does seem like it’s going to be entertaining watching Nico double down this offseason and trade the farm for KD. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: - F Gump - 03-06-2025 I am not convinced that a swap for KD is a given, only a possibility. But whatever their plan, I don't think it's changed at all. In fact, until we get news saying AD is done for the season, I don't think they've given up on this season either, or are even in "run out the easy grounder to second" mode (for those of you who know that expression). This team is terribly outmanned right now with all the players who are injured, but I think they (coaches and players alike) still hope for some reinforcements and a different trajectory after that. But whatever their plan, I don't think it's changed at all. I don't think they are considering anything other than playing hard for 82 games. I just think I may be done with the Mavs as a whole. I wrote out my speculation yesterday or the day before on here. Once I found the article quoting Kyrie from a couple of days after the trade outlining him, KD, and AD combined with possibly trading JT or JB I'm out. That sounds way too much like what just happened. Whtat was he supposed to say? Davis is an internet meme and we just witnessed the worst trade ever? Seriously, he couldn't say anything else... RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: - SleepingHero - 03-06-2025 “Ant Edwards and KD have a very tight connection from the Olympics. They tried to pull off a crazy trade at the deadline for KD, look for them to revisit talks in the summer.” From Brian Windhorst on Get Up today. Wolves definitely going to make a play for KD. The 2nd apron was put into place to specifically prevent trades like this with teams capped out. Let’s see if it actually does stop it. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: - F Gump - 03-06-2025 (03-06-2025, 11:07 AM)SleepingHero Wrote: “Ant Edwards and KD have a very tight connection from the Olympics. They tried to pull off a crazy trade at the deadline for KD, look for them to revisit talks in the summer.” The new rules don't actually prohibit things -- it's just numbers that alter HOW you can get from here to there. Sometimes the HOW then makes you lose interest. But not always. The point being, if KD and Minny want to join forces, it can happen, but their total payroll, and the bodies they would have to move, are going to impact whether it goes anywhere. IIRC there was NOT any KD interest in Minny at the deadline, and it was going to be really hard (and expensive) to navigate, requiring significant roster altering along with a team to take a lot of salary since both are over Apron 2. It may or may not be as challenging in the summer. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: - SleepingHero - 03-06-2025 @TheDunkCentral The Lakers, Mavericks, Spurs and Heat are expected to pursue Kevin Durant in the offseason, per @AmicoHoops RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: - mvossman - 03-06-2025 (03-06-2025, 03:19 PM)SleepingHero Wrote: @TheDunkCentral Strange list. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: - StrandedOnBeauboisHill - 03-06-2025 Nico trading away Luka as the first piece of his plan to get KD just for the Lakers to pair KD up with Luka would be soooooo funny. Ya the Spurs have been pretty deliberate about taking their time to build around Wemby. There's absolutely no way they're interested in KD. Not sure how the Lakers would be able to pull it off to be honest, wonder what Miami and LA's offers would look like compared to Dallas' of Gafford/PJ/picks. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: - Chicagojk - 03-06-2025 I am out on KD. I am just not moving good pieces and draft picks for a very good/great player. We have no idea if this team fits as is and won't know this year. I am not writing the final death notice with that move. I would be really hesitant to move this years pick too. Whether it is 13, 10, 8, 5, etc. I am not familar with a lot of the guys yet, but I see a lot of variance in the late lottery. Mavs job is to get that pick right though. Mavs can't afford anymore screw ups. While a #10 pick may not help much next year, you hit that pick and things look a tad better moving forward. I have no idea if Lively/Gafford can play with AD and finish games. I have no idea if PJ can be a really good SF and finish games. I have no idea if KD can play SF or if he is strictly a PF type now. There are just too many uncertainties for a team who may not have a championship window any longer. Lets see if there is a real team there the first half of the year when Kyrie recovers. If not, you sell and go for a top 3 pick in next years draft near mid year. The 26 draft top appears to be loaded. There's absolutely no way they're interested in KD. While I am not a fan of Lakers doing the offer, it wouldn't be that difficult to pull it off for them. For example, Rui, Reaves, Vincent and Maxi is roughly 53 mil of salary. Add Knecht and it is over 54 mil. Part of the salary would need to go to third team. So for Phoenix - Reaves on a great (expiring) deal taking over the PG duty. Rui on expiring deal takes PF spot in the starting line-up. Young player in Knecht and remaining pick. Vincent and Maxi are expiring salary fillers. Not a bad deal, giving Phoenix a lot of flexibility moving forward (easy to flip Reaves and/or Rui for assets if they want to). Lakers depth would be gutted though with DFS and Vando the only remaining starter level players. Probably resign Hayes. Next best player would likely be Goodwin and then only end of bench guys. I don't think the deal makes Lakers better. It does not make them better, but they will attract a lot of ring chasers and might be able to build some of that depth back up. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: - FireNicoHarrison - 03-06-2025 The only things that can curse Luka legacy could be LeBron ego to play 3/4 more years and a blockbuster trade for 37yo KD. So i hope they will do it |
