The Mavs actually played a pretty good game. Max will be a very good role player. Based on the history of Mavs trades, he may well turn out to have a better career in Dallas than AD. I still think the Mavs are 50-50 to make the playoffs. I’m just sick they’ve given up so many picks starting in 2027. It’s just unfair.

To be fair the Mavs have a pick EVERY year in the draft, except for possibly 2027, which is only top-2 protected.
They only have 3 tradable firsts, and yes they have made some swaps, but they still have a pick in the draft.

When we had Luka, those swaps weren't a bad thing. Now they're catastrophic - unless my tin foil hat theory is correct and we get Flagg.

Will the ping pong ball gods finally take pity on us? Will we have the right GM in place when they finally do? We are in the worst timeline now. I'm hoping everything goes bad so quickly that Nico gets ousted and we can flip AD before next years TDL while he can still has value enough to replenish some of our owed assets.

It also seems to be an organic tank with Gafford going out. Just another gut punch. Did you see how happy Davis was at Gaffords strong play. He was looking forward to playing power forward…. and then he saw his new buddy get injured. Man this has been a bad year.

Yeah, the swap could be a big swing or it could not matter. We won’t know but I see way too many people think of picks as “tradable picks” and assume that’s all we have. The Mavs have the ability to select a player every year, as it stands today. 2027 being the only one that’s iffy.

We will have picks, but the point is they will not be very good no matter how bad we are. There will be no opportunity to tank when it truly goes south, so we are stuck with a failed win now and then mediocrity for years after before we can even try to rebuild.

Lottery luck, tanking, steals, busts. There’s too much unknown for all of that. I was just correcting the incorrect statement that we don’t have any first round picks past 2027.

I’m talking about a pick that will turn the fortunes of a 20 win team around. The Mavs are going to be so bad in 2027-2030, a threat to win the lottery every year. They’re going to make a lot of other teams happy.
