RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: Mavs Checked on Jerami Grant?| NYK+WAS Discussed Robinson - Chicagojk - 06-23-2024 Interesting discussion to get Portland fans feedback https://www.reddit.com/r/ripcity/comments/1dmrqsf/what_from_the_mavs_would_interest_you/ RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: Lavine To Jazz or 76ers? | CHI Not Done Trading - Ghost of Podkolzin - 06-23-2024 (06-20-2024, 10:50 PM)mvossman Wrote: Neither Gafford or Vuc can guard the perimeter, but Vuc can't guard at the rim either. Vuc will be 34 next season and has been on the decline for a while. Not sure it makes sense to trade a 26 year old defensive P&R center for an aging declining offense only center. Vuc is at the point in his career that you get him as a FA signing chasing a ring. You do not give trade capital up for such a player. Mavs Interested in Tobias Harris? - F Gump - 06-23-2024 (06-23-2024, 12:07 PM)SleepingHero Wrote: Wouldn't this deal be legal since its above the 29 million dollar threshold (I assume this happens in July) in total and be subjected to the 125% +250k rule? Since both teams will be below the 1st apron upon completion they wouldn't have to worry about 100% match. Mavs team roster $ would be 177,222,039 and can just waive Lawson to get down to $175,101,356 The math is what governs the situation. The trade has to happen in July (due to MT restriction) and Apron 1 is expected to be about 178.65M. If you do a trade > 100%, you are hard capped at that number until June 30, 2025. The problem is that the result of that trade forces you over the hard cap (which is not permitted) as you complete your roster. Using your parameters here are the numbers... 1 11 - Roster Size, after doing the trade and waiving Lawson 2 174.5 - Team Salary (for apron purposes) with those 11. Some contracts use a different number for Apron purposes. 3 4.14 - Room, under Apron 1 (which is your hard cap) 4 1.0 - Cushion Needed under Hard Cap. This is an arbitrary number, but all teams will leave some room in case of emergencies, since there are NO permissions ever given to exceed a hard cap. 5 3 - Empty Roster Slots to fill (minimum number). A team must carry at least 14 players on the roster. 6 2.09 - Minimum Salary. It will cost this much or more to fill each roster slot 7 180.79 - Team Salary after signing 3 players at minimum RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: Mavs Checked on Jerami Grant?| NYK+WAS Discussed Robinson - chaparral - 06-23-2024 Enjoying the talk today on Avdija becoming a Mav. I'm sure our new owner would love to have him on her team as well. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: Mavs Checked on Jerami Grant?| NYK+WAS Discussed Robinson - RoyTarpleysGhost - 06-23-2024 Sarr apparently told the Hawks not to draft him because he wants to go to Washington. LMAO RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: Mavs Checked on Jerami Grant?| NYK+WAS Discussed Robinson - RoyTarpleysGhost - 06-23-2024 I’m down for Jerami Grant. It’s not my money. Maybe Kidd can convince him to play defense again. I did not want to trade “all the picks” for him last year like he was a big 3 guy but if we can get him with our current assets… RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: Mavs Like Bitdaze? Teams with cap space such as the Pistons, Sixers and Spurs are strong contenders to secure Marshall away from New Orleans. Brissett will now be an unrestricted free agent this summer. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: Mavs Checked on Jerami Grant?| NYK+WAS Discussed Robinson - DanSchwartzgan - 06-23-2024 If the goal is THJ/Maxi/Green for Grant/Thybulle, there MIGHT be a way to split it up and make it work. You do THJ/Maxi for Grant in 23/24. Then you do the Green for Thybulle part in the new season. Each deal would need to satisfy both teams on a stand alone basis in terms of draft compensation in case something happened with the second deal. You could also put Green in the first deal and Maxi in the Thybulle deal, but it makes Dallas a taxpayer in 23/24. I say “might” because there are a few potential issues. Fanspo shows the first trade putting Portland within $260k of hitting the tax for the current season. I imagine Fanspo doesn’t have every single penny of spending accounted for, so some minor tweaks might have to be made. Portland does not have a 2025 first round pick. So, I suspect part of the compensation for the THJ/Maxi for Grant part of this (or the THJ/Green for Grant part of this) would be our 2025. It wouldn’t shock me to see Dallas get back one of Portland’s 2024 seconds in such a deal. The other issue is when all is said and done, our three players for their two players adds some salary. When you account for a Vet Minimum to get back to 14 players, it puts us about $650k over the first apron. But, we don’t have to make our 14th a vet min. It can be a second rounder. Last year Portland paid their two second rounders $1.1mm each. That saves you more than the $650k needed to stay under the apron. Once we are under the apron with a legal roster, I believe we can spend the TP MLE and go over the apron as we’ve not done anything at this point to hard cap ourselves (or I don’t think we have). Those who think DJJ will sign a 1+1 at $5.2mm were always going to put us above the first apron with that signing (given how close we are to the apron without it). So, whether than $5.2mm goes to DJJ or some other player, you’d have the ability to spend it if you wish. Lively, PJ, Grant, Kyrie, Luka Gafford, OMax, Thybulle, Hardy, Exum ($5.2mm Exception player) Jason Terry - Jason Terry - 06-23-2024 (06-23-2024, 03:05 AM)DanSchwartzgan Wrote: I think the only reason we’ve been discussing Harris or Thybulle is because of one media report and one somewhat cryptic “insider” report. Both probably came out since they recorded that. Is that the episode where they mentioned Bogdan? I remember one of them saying good things about him too, but can’t remember how long ago that was.Avdija is the best fit of all realistic options. He might be the only name i would think about anything 2031 pick related. Green, Hardy, 2025 unprotected and 2025 Toronto 2nd is what i would be willing to give up The big feature with a guy like Avdija is he can do everything on offense. So we have a legit 3rd person to run the offense. I think we would come to find out that 2 out of 3 of Luka, Kyrie and Avdija would need to be on the court at all times. We would treat him like a point guard just like Luka. He wouldn’t be asked to play the same position as Jones Jr or PJ. He would be replacing Green, Hardy, THJ and Exum and would deliver more than all of them regular and postseason Essentially if we stagger the minutes between those 3 players, then Avdija would be the bench scoring we’ve always lacked in the highly talked about non-Luka minutes The cherry on top is his ability to defend well and he’s only 23………..He fits the mold of a Nico deal 2 Scorers: Luka, Kyrie, Avdija 2 defenders: DJJ, PJ, Maxi, Omax 1 big: Lively and Gafford RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: Mavs Checked on Jerami Grant?| NYK+WAS Discussed Robinson - Chicagojk - 06-23-2024 What are your thoughts on how a green for Thubulle trade would take place? Would Dallas ask for an asset back? How good of an asset? Green is much younger and I think he has substantially higher upside is he can ever put it together. On the other hand, I can’t stop thinking the role the Mavs want Green to play, Thybulle is just better at that role. I don’t know if I could pull the trigger just because I still think there is something still untapped with Green. It is an interesting discussion though. Some pertinent details 1 Other than trade kickers paid, post-season trades in June do not impact a team's tax, as tax numbers are already determined, as of the last day of the regular season. 2 If you are not hard-capped at Apron 1, you do not have to do things to stay under that number. 3 "You do THJ/Maxi for Grant in 23/24. ".....THJ-Maxi for Grant in 23-24 is more than 100% for DAL (and oddly, for POR too) so it creates a hard cap. 4 Obtaining a 2024 2nd rounder has the potential to help on the salary front, but is only useful if there's a player you can get that is actually worth having on your roster. If not, your roster is effectively only 13, which is problematic if you also lack the ability to spend and add when injuries occur. 5 Getting below the hard cap by a sliver probably isn't a solution that any team would embrace. You need a decent cushion. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: Mavs Checked on Jerami Grant?| NYK+WAS Discussed Robinson - Jason Terry - 06-23-2024 KCP is a guy that should get some love. Wizards get: Green Mavs get: KCP Nuggets get: TPE and pick 26 RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: Mavs Checked on Jerami Grant?| NYK+WAS Discussed Robinson - SleepingHero - 06-23-2024 (06-23-2024, 07:56 PM)Jason Terry Wrote: KCP is a guy that should get some love. Problem is, the Nuggets want to do everything in their power to keep KCP. They're not trying to lose him. He's threatening (or will do it and giving them a heads up) of opting out of his current deal to sign for a more lucrative one. If he does that, it may put the Nuggets in such a cap bugaboo that they have no choice but to let him go. There are already a lot of strong rumors that Philly is going to throw a big contract at KCP.
