Well played!

I'm the first to say when I'm wrong.  The year we resigned THJ, I was screaming for Lonzo and Lauri.  I was spot on on one, the other not so much.

I'm not fussed about Wood. Mavs wouldn't have got him for that huge discount and he's not going to make this team title-contenders.

There are so many other things that the Mavs FO have done (and not done) over the last 5 years since getting Luka to be more ticked off about.

Well, starter-level C minutes is our biggest roster concern.  At best Lively will give us 20mins/60games.  That's 1,200 of the 4,000 minutes needed for C.  Who is going to give us those 2,800 minutes?  Wood and G.Will would have been a nice frontcourt.

I hope Zach is right about this, because from my seat, much of what made them less fun to watch last season also made them less successful. There was correlation there, I believe.

"Per the same report, the coach from Vitoria had been recommended by Luka Doncic to replace Jason Kidd at the helm after a disappointing second part of the season that left the Mavs out of the playoffs."

In this video, Jason Kidd says Jaden Hardy sprained his ankle today and is being treated and Josh Green fell on his back yesterday and missed practice today.

Hopefully nothing too serious.

Part of me does hope that we absolutely suck to start the season and Kidd is quickly removed

You’re away from the board for a day only to find out you missed out on the Taze Moore era. How many pages of discussion is there of him being signed and released the next day (I assume he lands on the g-league team).

At least I didn’t miss the legends trade of them picking up Theo Pinson. Anyone?

Nice Lively thoughts from Demario’s in his latest article

One thing was certain going into the offseason—Dallas had to get some better options in the middle alongside the returning Dwight Powell. Christian Wood was not brought back, and JaVale McGee, last year’s mid-level exception signing, was waived. Replacing them are 12th overall pick Dereck Lively II and Richaun Holmes, who was brought in via a draft-night trade. That didn’t stop the Mavs from spending the summer on the hunt for a front-line starter to bring in via trade, a pursuit that proved fruitless when deals for Clint Capela and DeAndre Ayton couldn’t be hashed out.
But as August turned to September, the Mavs’ braintrust started seeing rapid growth and development from Lively, who was in the gym every day. During Summer League, the prevailing wisdom was that fellow rookie Olivier Maxence-Prosper was going to have more of an immediate impact and that it would take time for Lively to make his case. But sources tell me Lively has changed that calculus. His basketball IQ is off the charts, and having watched all of the full training camp practices before the team left for their international trip, I didn’t see him make any mental or schematic errors. He has learned the contours of what his defensive assignments are, he protects the rim, and he can switch on smaller defenders and recover.
Offensively, he has clicked with Luka Doncic immediately. Doncic loves playing the vertical game, pick-and-rolling a defense to death with an athletic, rolling big. He has yet to line up alongside a starting-caliber player in that vein in Dallas. He will now. Lively is learning daily what moves Doncic makes when, and more importantly, never to give up on a play, as Doncic can find you at any time.
Add it up, and Lively will most likely start once the regular season commences. There will be growing pains as he deals with foul trouble. At Duke, he had 92 fouls in 34 games (in only 20 minutes per contest). Already, in his 58 minutes of playing time in the first three preseason games, he has 12 fouls. But that will course correct as the game slows down for him, and seeing him constantly around Tyson Chandler should make everyone feel good inside.
As one Mavs source told me, “We may have found our center.”

Laso just signed a three year deal with Bayern Munich, so unlikely he´ll be available any time soon. Also not sure Cuban/NBA want a coach on the bench that has recently suffered a heart attack. Seems pretty useless information.

One thing the NBA has over every single European team is funds. According to a bunch of sources, Bayern Munich's entire team budget ranges from 19-25 mil usd a year.

If Cuban wanted Laso, he could get a buyout pretty easily. Lets say Laso needs a 3 mil buyout (he'd be the highest paid coach in europe if we're assuming thats what it takes), and then offers him a salary starting at 4 mil, he'd still be cheaper than Kidd.

But ignoring all of that, the most interesting part of the rumor was that Luka recommended Laso last year. Meaning Luka isn't married to Kidd, and Kidd's job isn't safe at all.

Yeah but Bayern Munich is a bigger team than the Dallas Mavericks and they are more or less famous for not letting players/coaches go that are under contract. He´d need to have a release clause for this to happen.

Bayern Munich is a bigger team maybe football wise, but their basketball team? Fat chance. If Cuban went to their owner and said here is a check for 20% of your yearly budget for your head coach you'd think they'd turn that down?

I mean who knows. This is all speculation and doesn't matter. I'm sitting here arguing that Cuban would willingly write a check to make his team better in the short term... as if that'd happen!

This is an interesting point. Are you saying there is something unique about German law that allows them to force employees to honor employment contracts? (That’s not the law here. You can breach employment contracts but are then liable for any damages caused. But I don’t know German law at all.)

Or are you saying this guy has something like a non-compete clause in his agreement that would foreclose his coming here? (The law here allows employers to enforce non-compete terms that are “reasonably” limited in scope—including geographic scope—and duration. I guess Europe to US professional basketball could be considered a reasonable scope, but I wouldn’t be confident that would hold up.)

If all you mean is the coach would be liable for damages, that shouldn’t be a hindrance providing the cash involved is way more here than there. Whatever harm his departure would cause, it also saves them the $4 mil per year they would have owed him, and he’d get to net that out.
