I mean yeah it sucks, but I imagine this was the best offer they were going to get if they jumped on it the day before the deadline.

BREAKING: The Philadelphia 76ers are trading guard Jared McCain to the Oklahoma City Thunder for a 2026 Rockets first-round pick and three second-round picks, sources tell ESPN.

Edit: I overlooked. It turns into 2030 GSW second rounder

Dumont seemingly cares about the tax or our interim GMs rolodex is as thin as Donnie's/Cuban's.  We didn't even get rid of Martin.  Not a fan of this trade.

I guess getting out of the money next year was a motivator after all. Even Elon Musk wouldn't want to be in the 2nd apron for this team. I never bought that story about Dumont being perfectly happy to see AD, Kyrie, and Flagg play together.

Gump is not going to be happy about this. I'm not sure I'm happy about it. This return is probably worse than any of the Atlanta deals.

No, but they did unload DLO and Hardy. TBH, I care about the tax, at this point, even as a fan. Those repeater tax handicaps and apron rules are no joke.

That is a great trade for Philly. McCain wasn't really good this season. OKC must be cutting a player, if they are not sending anyone to Philly

With so much money going out for Dallas, it opens up many more options to add salary that maybe didn't seem practical this morning. For example, trading Gafford for Mathurin (pending RFA) could be on the table. It will be interesting to see if there are any follow-up deals lined up.

That ship sailed the moment AD got hurt.  I don't understand how people were just waving that injury away like it was a nothing burger.

So most likely its a very late first and 4 seconds.  I have not added things up, but did Wiz take on a lot of extra salary with this?  Did we get out of the tax for this season?  Looks like we will have full MLE?

Yeah, pretty clear that they wanted to lower payroll. It's not sexy, but neither is paying someone a max deal who never plays, and I prefer this to using guys like Gafford, Marshall and Washington as sweeteners to unload other contracts. At least now if/when they trade those guys it will be for things they're actually worth.

And now, I'm not sure Gafford and Lively don't work again, as long as a ball-handling element is added soon.

Pretty pathetic haul, the entire world now gets to look at the Luka trade as an even bigger joke but it is what it is. Can't expect too much without a GM I guess. Flagg the only thing keeping this afloat.

There are other ways to handle the tax situation, but it is spilt milk at this point.  It does kind of answer the does he/doesn't he question related to Dumont.  I hope we use those picks to move up in this years draft.  I don't expect the lottery gods will be kind to us again.

Klay and Middleton on our team would have been great 5-8 years ago.  haha

Or Coby White.

I was thinking the same. We get caught up in the draft - which is fun - but the financial flexibility probably gives the Mavs room to work on the roster.

There is a separate trade thread.

@BobbyMarks42
The Mavericks now have the resources, starting with a likely lottery pick (and a late first) and financial/roster resources to build their roster around Cooper Flagg.

Dallas has $150M in guaranteed money next year, well below the tax and apron.

For this season, Dallas drops below the luxury tax and both aprons.

They have flexibility in the next 24 hours to continue building up their draft assets.

Time to start speculating if Kyrie gets moved by next years TDL.

Ooof just saw the trade…. Glad to see I’m not the only one reacting this way

RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - Dirknows - 02-04-2026

I hope they are on the phone trying to get their 2027 pick back from the Hornets. This team is a disaster as currently structured and more moves feel like they’re coming.
