Somebody is getting moved by the TDL. When Garland comes back, they're going to have too many PG's. Ball, Schroeder, Porter Jr, and Proctor. Sam Merrill is a SG. It wouldn't surprise me if Ball or Schroeder get re-routed somewhere else. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - DanSchwartzgan - 02-02-2026 We've talked about the difficulty of dealing with the bonuses of the Toronto players in an AD trade. Smitty posted one that works on Discord (may have posted it here and I just missed it). It keeps Toronto similarly under the first apron to where they are now and Dallas similarly positioned to the second apron to where they are now. The deal is: Dallas Outgoing: AD, Martin, D'Lo and Williams Dallas Incoming: Quickley, Barrett and Agbaji Picks weren't specified so that each could make their own presumption as to fair value Toronto is taking out a lot of our trash. Agbaji is expiring (and could go to a third team fairly easily). Quickley's deal is flat and Barrett goes up $1.9mm next year. So, a net increase of $1.9mm for that pair. For Toronto, Williams is expiring and the combo of AD, Martin and D'Lo are set to get $5mm in raises next season. So, Dallas could get some decent help here financially and some useful vets for next season (to either retain or trade). Kind of like the KP deal except Quickley and Barrett are higher end (players and cost) than Dinwiddie and Bertans. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - Smitty - 02-02-2026 (01-17-2026, 10:06 AM)Smitty Wrote: Legal trades with Quickley: Correct, a recap of the possible Toronto deals for AD. I personally think it's still a possibility that the Raptors take a swing for Davis. I feel like they will try to land either Sabonis or Davis with the rumored RJ+IQ/Poeltl package. My best guess is that Toronto prefers Poeltl in the outgoing, and Sac/Mavs would have zero interest there. Then it comes down to the pick(s) package... I'll add that a RJ+IQ deal lines up very closely financially with Sabonis+Monk and gives the Raptors the ability to try and get out of the tax at the same time. With a separate Agbaji deal for less $$. Something to watch... RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - DanSchwartzgan - 02-02-2026 The Locked On guys posited that the Vit/Reath deal that landed an expiring contract and two seconds for Atlanta might be a precursor to an AD to Atlanta trade. It doesn't mean Dallas gets Atlanta's (now) seven available seconds. Some could be used as outgoing to help Dallas send out salary to a third team. One thing to note. The agent was extremely vocal and aggressive, which tells me he thinks he has an extension in his back pocket somewhere. He's gone radio silent on AD lately. Not sure that means anything, but the two teams in play when he was being aggressive were Atlanta and Toronto. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - RoyTarpleysGhost - 02-02-2026 I think the simplest explanation why things have been quiet on the AD front is because he’s injured and out for a long time. Teams are no longer offering assets in trades or willing to give him an extension. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - Chicagojk - 02-02-2026 Personally I believe there is not anything there with Davis and that is why his agent is quiet. I think before he got injured he probably had better odds that a team like Atlanta would be more open for an extension this summer. The issue is I don't think the teams ever got close on an asking price. Hence the Paul liking a quote for a trade to ATL. Once AD got hurt, I think any extension talk ended and ATL moved on. Just my .02. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - Chicagojk - 02-02-2026 Again, not a fan of the leaks. Seems like Dallas has a lot of people willing to talk. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - KillerLeft - 02-02-2026 I have no idea whether there's anything going on with AD or not. Nothing would surprise me, at this point. Having said that, I kind of hate most of the TOR ideas, so I hope they don't happen. If a TOR deal does happen, I suppose I hope IQ is in the deal and ends up on the Mavs. I'm higher on him than most seem to be around here. I don't love his contract, obviously, but I'm comfortable with what he brings to the table on the court. I believe both Atlanta trades (Trae and now this last one) are a set up to something bigger. I hope it involves the Mavs somehow. Preferably AD to Atlanta. But we could still see Gafford and/or Naji going that way also. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - RasheedsBigWhiteSpot - 02-02-2026 I've watched a lot more Hawks and Raptors games of late. Both teams really struggle in the half court, especially Toronto. The Raps offense is solely built on transition. If they get stopped on the break, it becomes nothing but a Brandon Ingram iso. Poertl is a deal killer unless they OVERWHELM the Mavs with picks. Same with Quickly. Barrett I like. His game has grown since NY. However, I'm just not enamored with Barrett as a centerpiece for AD, nor do I view him as a future "Robin" for Cooper. The Hawks are a little more creative, with Johnson and Daniels, but there's a definite void in the middle. Risacher gets little to no offensive touches. I don't see him as some big "get". Yes, cap space would be nice, but I'd want picks from Atlanta. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - Chicagojk - 02-02-2026 Personally I will be fine if the only move is one moving Klay. Not because he has been bad but he is not in the long term future and I would like to see him on a better team. He has been the consummate pro here. I would make other moves if they made sense, but most of the other guys (with exception of DLO, Hardy and Martin) are good players. I would like to have a vision for any direction they go. I don't believe they have that now. The health and performance of AD and Kyrie, where they land in the lottery, PJ trade eligible, and who they pick and the new GM would be nice to know before picking a direction. Also, for Tax reasons, it is not the start of the year but the end of the year right? So even if they didn't figure everything out this summer, there is still time as next year starts right? I expect at least two moves this summer. There is not much logic in that Vit/Reath deal would be a precursor to AD to Atlanta trade, imho. With the move Atlanta created a roster spot (when they dump Reath, which is expected). Davis salary would most likely mean Atlanta would be sending out more players than receiving. I don't want to say that Atlanta would not trade for Davis, but I don't think that move had much to do with it. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - Scott41theMavs - 02-02-2026 Well, three days left until the deadline, and I'm going to be away from the board until Wednesday PM. I don't really care about the repeater tax penalties, but would like to see the Mavs go below the apron. I certainly want them to be successful in being rotundly unsuccessful (i.e. tanking) this season because it desperately matters, so if offloading player x accomplishes that, great. However, I'm also aware that we don't have our pick next year, so that there's zero good reason to be bad next season, and also aware of FGump's very reasonable argument that the team is going to need a talent quotient in place to be able to build around Coop at all. That said, my consideration of the roster other than Coop going into the deadline: Max - I know he is our best young player other than Coop, but he's not that great. A comfortable man's Josh Green, tbh. Likely a future starter, but by no means untouchable. I wouldn't be sad if they traded him if the return was a '26 lottery pick. Otherwise, yeah, it probably makes sense to hold on to him. NB: One situation that I would definitely include Max in would be in a deal with Atlanta (Pel's pick) or another high lottery team for '26 swap rights. That would give the Mavs two shots at moving up to the blue-chippers in this great draft. AD - If the extension from any team is off the table, then that should actually grease the wheels on any move. That said, that doesn't mean that he's going to bring back more than he would this summer or later, at this point. The reason to move him is to get back something more conducive to Coop's timeline and to free up roster space while dumping a big contract. Naji - I get that he's our best performer other than Coop given all of the injured players. But most here seem to miss Killer's point - he doesn't fit with Flagg. I think moving him is certainly good for the tank and not as prejudicial to success next year as many are saying due to that redundancy. But they need to get the sell-high value for him if they're going to move him. That means a rotation shooter, or a 1st rounder this year. PJ - I'm sad that he has played so poorly since the AD trade. Not sure if he's part of the future or not. If they trade him, I just hope they get reasonable value. Williams - Not sure if he's good enough to be part of a young core moving forward or not. Wouldn't be surprised to see him as a trade throw-in as some have noted. Russell - If they can squeeze any value (or roster space) out of him, great. I'll be annoyed if we have to include draft capital to offload him. Gafford - I'd be surprised if he isn't moved. Once again, get value for him. Hardy - I know most of us have written him off, but as lame of a player as he is overall, he's actually quietly been better this year when he's gotten opportunities. If they need to offload him for roster or cap purposes, I'm fine with it, but he's probably one of the four or five players I wouldn't mind keeping around. Nembhard - Keeper, as our future backup rotation point guard. Lively - Ugh, I hate that this is even a question. If he were healthy this year, we wouldn't even be able to tank, imho. If they can get value for him, then yes, you pull that trigger. Martin - If he has played well enough for us to offload the contract without paying for the privilege, great. Irving - He doesn't fit the timeline, but he likely has no value. Keep him for next year's efforts and then see how he fits in/what the future holds. I think his veteran presence would be helpful. Powell - Likely not going anywhere. Exum - Another dump him if you can but don't pay for it guy. Thompson - This is where I likely differ from everyone else. Yes, Splash Grandpa's an old fart, but he still has a little in the tank and fits better with Flagg than any other player still on roster. I don't give a crap about "doing him a solid" by trading him to a contender. I would keep him for next year. That said, he and Naji and Gafford are the most likely to be moved, but I hope they don't move him to move him. If value comes back, fine. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - Tyler - 02-02-2026 (02-02-2026, 12:16 PM)Chicagojk Wrote: Once AD got hurt, I think any extension talk ended and ATL moved on. Just my .02. I can totally see how AD's latest injury cooled interest from teams who want to compete this year, but I think it has zero bearing on an extension. A hurt ligament in his non-shooting hand, while certainly irritating to beleaguered Mavs fans, is not that big of a deal in the long run. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - F Gump - 02-02-2026 How about a non-AD trade with ATL? The Hawks really need added talent, and have both extra picks and some cap flexibility in the long run. Maybe something like this: Klay, Gafford, Martin, Russell FOR Porzingis, Risacher, Wallace, 2026 CLE 1st, another later 1st RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - vfromlmf - 02-02-2026 If ownership isn't worried about payroll I might rather wait for the offseason. Klay, Naji, Hardy + DLo represent $39 million expiring next year. |
