RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - F Gump - 01-26-2026 (01-26-2026, 06:15 PM)mvossman Wrote: Sure, but they have already said they are waiting until offseason and that will be too late to take advantage of any opportunities at the TDL. Given all of the rumors they are at least acting like decisions could be made. I would rather have the GM now, but I don't think the right strategy is to do nothing until they get one. Who said? And what was it they said? I haven't seen any actual commitments by anyone on anything ... and I also think we can trust very little that's said during (as the Nelsons used to call it) "Lying Season." I think Stein reported it. Are you suggesting you think they are going to hire a GM in the next month? Even without the reporting, I think it is highly unlikely they hire one now if they have not already. EDIT: looks like it was Christian Clark of The Athletic, not Stein. Regardless, I have lost hope they are going to do anything about the GM position until end of season. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - F Gump - 01-26-2026 I have always thought a summer hire for a GM was most likely. But I haven't seen any such announcement, and what I've seen from MS feels more like thoughts of general likelihood rather than anything definitive. Obviously as we get close to the TDL, the idea that the Mavs won't have a GM by then is more and more of a default idea, rather than something they've said. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - DL2RimRocker - 01-26-2026 (01-26-2026, 07:50 AM)Kidnova Wrote: Seems pretty optimistic to lump Cisse into the building block bucket. Even Lively is hard to count on as a core piece as his health is always a concern. Coop is a future MVP candidate and Max and Nembhard seem like good role players, but your list is why I think this team is 3 or 4 years away from being a contender again, not 1 or 2 years. That's why I'm in the tear it down and start over camp. I don't think there's a competitive window available on Kyrie or ADs timeline, so accumulating as much draft capital as you can in the near term is important. I don't think Cisse will ever become starter material but I do think he has the potential to be a solid and cheap backup. I think his ceiling is something like Mihinmi. My point is that there is a path to build a decent contender if some of our young guys develop, draft picks are acquired and chosen/managed effectively, and we are able to acquire some fitting young pieces via trades. Hopefully that situation will attract a decent 3rd option caliber FA. Obviously, we won't hit on everyone we acquire via drafts and trades, but I do think there can be a positive outlook for this team considering we have the hardest piece to get which is a future MVP candidate. Christie is already a solid player at age 22 and I still think he has some upside. I see Nemhbard more as a Barea comparison than a Yogi as some have mentioned. I do agree we are realistically 3 or 4 years away no matter what and we are wasting precious time trying to compete with Kyrie/AD/Klay. Their problem is, they are currently projected to be almost 20 mil over the second apron in the summer. As a second apron team they can't use the MLE and they can't SnT for players and it is quite difficult to imagine that LeBron would not demand at least a MLE. This provides additional incentive to trade Hunter for expiring salary, as he is the only single move that would get them under the second apron, without touching their core. The alternative would be Strus and Ball. Even then they would have to SnT for LeBron, as any higher salary would again put them over the apron. Hunter doesn't have a good season, mostly because he is just 30 % from three. Perhaps just an outlier, because he was a 40 % shooter last season and is a career 36 %. An opportunity for a buyer to get him cheaply. Cleveland could of course look to trade him in the summer, but it would almost certainly take assets, as they would have to trade him into someones cap space to get under the second apron. They will probably get the best package then. His injury complicates things. There are teams who probably need to make the move now though. I just think they will get a better deal this summer. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - omahen - 01-28-2026 Unless one of the teams that was not mentioned much so far (OKC, SA, Detroit,...) jumps in, Miami has by far the best offer right now. Mia: Herro, Ware, 2 FRP GSW: Kuminga, Butler (or Green+Moody) + 3 FRPs NY: KAT or some combination of their wings + 0 FRP None of these offers is really great. OKC is of course a great team and doesn't need to do much. But, imagine them getting Giannis for something like Hartenstein, Wallace and whatever number of picks. That could have a potential to become a 5 year dinasty, as long as the owners are prepared to pay the tax. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - FireNicoHarrison - 01-28-2026 If OKC trades for Giannis they are done. Book it. They would dominate for at least the next half decade. I feel the same about Houston or San Antonio. Keep Giannis out of the West. He doesnt scare me in New York or Miami. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - Chicagojk - 01-28-2026 While I think a deal happens this summer, one advantage of a trade now (despite the injury) is it gives a team more time to make a case that he should stay. This summer Giannis may have more power to push for a certain destination as he would be in the last year of his contract. Clippers and maybe Lakers having cap room the following summer makes it more dangerous to trade without a commitment. I don't think Miami has great package, but they need to be taken seriously. They are a place everyone wants to play at in Miami. They have also proven then can build a good team and has a long success of great development. They just need a star. I think this summer SA or Houston will make a good offer depending on who struggles in the playoffs. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - Chicagojk - 01-28-2026 Man, looking at the Bucks roster is just brutal. To have that little attractive players and limited draft picks is really impressive. What they have tried to do to make a contender has just failed on all accounts. I would be looking for a new GM. Not sure if it is the same person but they have botched that job pretty bad. What happens to Myles Turner. I don't believe he has been good this year. Does a team sniff around him at a discount due to his play and salary? RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - BigDirk41 - 01-28-2026 (01-28-2026, 02:32 PM)Knutsen Wrote: How about a package around AD and Lively in comparison? Talent wise absolutely, but they are two of the most fragile players in NBA history. Lively has much more value to the Mavs than another franchise. If they both played 70 games a year, that would probably be the best package. It is pretty fascinating in a vacuum with those three team though. The Knicks offer doesn't interest me. Although maybe you get in the ballpark of the other teams if they got their picks back. Anything with Miami is tricky. They have a voodoo where players play better for the Heat. Do you really want to bet against Miami not being good? Future Warriors picks when Curry is retired and Kerr is gone is enticing, but would I rather have my own picks back? I don't know which I would prefer. I think all three lead to an extended rebuild where MIL is graveyard for 4-5 years at least. Just in writing this I was thinking I would prefer the Knicks package with the Bucks picks back, but now I am think GSW may be the best package. If I was Giannis I would want to stay in the East. I think these three teams would be desirable locations for him though. AD has no value for Milwaukee, as they will enter a rebuild. Since he also doesn't have much of a market value due to his age, contract and injury history, I don't think that offer would be an interesting offer. Everything collapsed with that move, as he was a key part that was making their defense work with Lopez in drop. From then on it was just desperation moves to do something without anything to keep Giannis happy. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - Chicagojk - 01-28-2026 Giannis straight up for Banchero. Who says no? |
