Most of those players were wanted by almost everyone here. I don't remember anyone other than myself advocating for PJ Washington, but I won't call you a liar - maybe I just don't remember.

I think what people are reacting to is your inclusion of Kyrie Irving, because there is a 0% chance trading him has even crossed the Mavericks decision makers' minds. The reason you're not taken seriously is because every single one of your proposed trades has Irving included. Not only will they not trade him, they are going to give him a nice, fat extension this summer.

I remember you, Dan, and Mavs2021 being the biggest PJ advocates. I was pretty against it as I thought the dude was a tweener who couldn't contribute to winning.

I am so glad I was SOOOOOOO wrong.

My PJ love is well documented. Probably more so on discord. I’ve wanted the Mavs to trade for him a few years now.

Well, I'm coming at it from this angle...

Kyrie isn't getting any younger! You have to think/plan ahead too. Then also look at the main competition (Celtics and Thunder, currently), to determine what might be more valuable or necessary in order to beat them consistently. The Celtics generally put 5 players on the court who can play offense + defense at a very high level. They also have good size, and their players are overall physically stronger and more athletic than the Mavs equivalents. It's the same with Thunder... except they're smaller in size with Jalen Williams at PF, but younger, quicker and more athletic.

So, I think having the options of Avdija and Anfernee will be more valuable than Kyrie, when/if the opposing team is slowing down Kyrie to the same extent that we saw in last year's Finals. Especially with 6'9" Avdija in the lineup along with PJW, it could give the Mavs a larger lineup that the Celtics and Thunder find harder to beat.
  • Luka [25yo]
  • Grimes [24yo] or Anfernee [25yo], depending on need.
  • Avdija [24yo]
  • PJW [26yo]
  • Lively [20yo]

I see these guys fitting together very well... well enough that I'm cool with trading Kyrie to make it happen... and the other backups that the Mavs have can also fit in very well alongside these guys (Gafford, Klay, Naji, Hardy, Spencer, Gortman, Kleber).

Of course, all of this is predicated on Luka finally getting serious about losing weight and staying in tip-top shape.

RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: Heat Interested in Fox? | MEM Wants DFS? - F Gump - 12-28-2024

Although I was positive on Mavs doing something that might improve them at the TDL last season, and felt they did a great (!!) job in negotiating price, I was lukewarm on the idea of getting PJW, because I didn't believe he had THIS kind of upside. I thought they had acquired an average starter. Glad to see I was way wrong.

But let me add, for all those who felt as I did, that I don't think the NBA in general saw it either. If they had, there would have been a bidding war 8 months earlier when he was a FA, and there would have been another bidding war at the TDL. Neither occurred, which was why the Mavs were able to get him at the price they did.

So kudos to those who thought he had lots of untapped potential.

Stein saying nets and Grizzlies having active conversations on DFS. Konchar and Kennard plus a first round pick. Grizz would get second round pick compensation back.

Would be a nice trade for the Grizz. They have a lot of bodies though

RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: Heat Interested in Fox? | MEM Wants DFS? - RGP1981 - 12-28-2024

A further point about Avdija... I'm not one to usually suggest signing a player to keep another team from signing them... but if the Thunder make a trade for him (let's say, using Topic + Wiggins + whatever picks might be needed to complete the deal), I just don't see how anyone in the West could compete with them, for awhile at least. It would probably be like the Mavs adding PJW but to an already more complete squad.

He‘s going to the Lakers for Russell, Lewis and three second round picks.

I guess they changed course.  That's a surprise.

RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: Heat Interested in Fox? | MEM Wants DFS? - F Gump - 12-29-2024

DFS is probably available to the Mavs in the summer for big MLE, but will the Mavs have one?

They would have to get rid of Hardy and let Grimes walk in order to have room. The Hardy contract is not aging well, and re-signing Grimes at times looks like he's worth MLE and other times he's worth half that, while he'll want a lot more. It will be a challenging time of roster-building decisions over the next 6-7 months that are crucial to get right.

RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: Heat Interested in Fox? | MEM Wants DFS? - RoyTarpleysGhost - 12-29-2024

DFS will be 32. Grimes will be 25. That’s an easy decision.

How do you know Grimes will "want a lot more" than the MLE? Was there any reporting on what the Mavs were offering/what he was asking for before this season? Im really curious to know. I would've given him 4/48ish before this season.

Even if Grimes wants a lot more than the MLE, which will be difficult for him to find given the lack of cap space available this summer, the Mavs can just match any contract he’s given.

@All_Things_Mavs
According to
@JakeLFischer
, Kyle Kuzma “has a lot of interest in going to Dallas” this season.

The Mavericks nearly traded for him last year before he opted to stay in DC.

If the price has dipped, and he’s really all in, would you take him on the Mavs?

RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: Kuzma Now Likes Dallas? BUT Dallas Doesn’t like Kuzma? - SleepingHero - 12-29-2024

@NationMffl
Fischer said he also spoke with people connected to the Mavericks FO and mentions they’d most likely not be interested in giving up key assets for Kuzma.

"DFS will be 32. Grimes will be 25. That’s an easy decision." -- Is it? DFS plays well, at a starter level (ie vs other 1st stringers). Grimes starter minutes are often disappointing. I'd rather add a strong starter level player than one whose ceiling appears to be backup caliber.

I didn't say Grimes will want a lot more than the MLE. You misread me. The point was whether the Mavs have MLE to spend, or not, and it's either-or when it comes to Grimes (and Hardy too).

The ability to match matters most when a player is max-worthy, or close to it. But with an MLE player like him, what do you do if some team offers him way more than you feel he's worth? Do you match and end up with a bad, cap-clogging contract? And what he THINKS he is worth will tend to factor into the picture too. So an accurate player evaluation is huge. (But it also helps if few teams will have cap room for over-MLE offers.)

To me, Grimes is a lot like Josh Green was. Sometimes, he looks like he can be a good player. Other times, he spares it up and it feels like his ceiling is "limited minutes backup." In theory, you want to keep him no matter what because you need talent, but it's going to be real easy to end up with a bad contract you regret.
