Depending on what you're into, SLC is a great city. Near to some of the best skiing in America, but if you're not Mormon, are not white, or don't love outdoor adventure, I can see it's not being a great stop. Then again, Ingram grew up in a town of 9k. Rural NC. Methinks Ingram didn't want to sign with the franchise, not because of the City. If teams make a mid-season trade, does each get to claim a pro-rated portion of the traded players contract? I know it's mostly moot because you have to balance incoming with outgoing, but in this era of aprons and thin spaces underneath, I'm trying to understand whether you can get a higher priced player for half a season (ish) without breaking the apron cap. " If teams make a mid-season trade, does each get to claim a pro-rated portion of the traded players contract? "...As a cap consideration, no. The trade must be salary matched based on current year salary, which each team does from their own angle to fit their own cap situation. Lots of rules govern that, but when it's done, your total 15-man NBA payroll (plus whatever salary gets paid on any waived player) is your new cap total. The actual question of who pays whom how much is different, as the salary itself gets split on a prorated basis. Incentive bonuses if any are paid by the eoy team (with a cap/tax hit). RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: NOP+UTA Talks W/Ingram Failed | SAC Signs Crowder - gomavs - 12-02-2024 3 observations: 1. Omax looks like a bust. Can he still play in the development league? 2. It is time to trade Hardy. Maybe somebody would give us a 2nd round pick for him? 3. Maxi looks like he is done. Unless, of course, there is something physically wrong that we don't know about. He has given us a lot in his career, but it is time to ride into the sunset. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: NOP+UTA Talks W/Ingram Failed | SAC Signs Crowder - Chicagojk - 12-02-2024 (12-02-2024, 06:40 PM)gomavs Wrote: 3 observations: 1) yes, he can still play in G-league. I wouldn't call him a bust. The game is just moving too fast for him right now. He should be further along being a three year college player and being in his second year in the NBA. I am just trying to figure it if he just lacks the basketball IQ or because the game moves to fast for him that he just appears a step slow. When you see a rebound or a lose ball, he is just a tick slow reacting. The highlights from college were awesome. I think there is a pretty good player in there and I think he is a kid who will work his butt off, but we just haven't seen it yet. Sometimes it clicks...sometimes it doesn't. 2) I think Hardy is a prime trade candidate. That skill set doesn't bring much back though. He will clearly be outside the main rotation when everyone is healthy. It is probably smart to be patient with him too though, but willing to move him if you get a better fitting part. I have little doubt he could do similar stats as the Utah second year guard (even though the Utah guard is better handling the ball). 3) I think this is the prime opportunity to give Maxi minutes. He offers a unique skill set even though he is a zero on offense right now. We should be looking at eventual replacements (hopefully Omax), but if he can't stay healthy than we have our answer. Ideally, he isn't going to be a heavy minute player. Can he play 10 minutes a night in a playoff game...where every now and then gets 20 plus depending on good play and matchups? There really isn't a lot of room for minutes in that role imo if PJ and our centers are healthy. Maxi can provide a unique skill set. It just is really painful to watch him try to score or pass right now. We’re constantly looking for ways to improve our team, and often, that takes the form of “culling” the weakest or poorest performers. The problem with this approach is that their lowest trade value is precisely when they’re playing poorest. Did you ever hear that investing adage “Buy low, sell high”? Exactly the opposite approach. A team’s playoff fortunes probably won’t depend on players 11-15 on the roster anyway. Maybe they get you a couple of regular-season wins filling in for injured guys, but they’re not the meat and potatoes, just the garnishes and side dishes. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: NOP+UTA Talks W/Ingram Failed | SAC Signs Crowder - Scott41theMavs - 12-02-2024 (12-02-2024, 08:25 PM)DallasMaverick Wrote: We fans have a problem. That's the problem - I don't want to lose any of the top 8 players on the team. That's Luka, Kai, Lively, PJ, Grimes, Naji, Klay, and Gafford. I would gladly trade Klay away in a package for Butler, but that's not happening - and it's a bad look for the Mavs to get likely their biggest FA in franchise history (pretty much everyone else came in in trades, including draft trades) and trade him away immediately. That's a great way to never have a free agent come here again. In short, trade talk sorta irritates me this year due to what we would likely have to give up. Those first five names on the list are untouchable for me (the fourth and fifth for their fit), and likely Naji as well. Kai likes it here, so trading him would be like trading Klay. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: NOP+UTA Talks W/Ingram Failed | SAC Signs Crowder - Ghost of Podkolzin - 12-02-2024 I don't see trading Klay as anything the Mavs would want to do. The league is watching. I don't think this stands as far as his starting. Klay would be ideal as the 6th man. Let Naji and Grimes fight for the starting position. Yes, OMax is a bust. Do y'all remember when we brought in Antoine Rigaudeau? Dude couldn't get off a shot or pass. The NBA game was that much faster for him. OMax reminds me of this. As someone recently posted, he's always a tick slow to react. Reaction time and BBallIQ is not something you can coach. He'll remain on an NBA roster for a few years given his ability, but IMO it's futile. Maxi is done. Any minutes we get out of him is a gift. This is our biggest roster need. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: NOP+UTA Talks W/Ingram Failed | SAC Signs Crowder - Ghost of Podkolzin - 12-02-2024 Oh, and Hardy can't be traded this year. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: NOP+UTA Talks W/Ingram Failed | SAC Signs Crowder - SleepingHero - 12-03-2024 https://hoopshype.com/lists/top-nba-trade-candidates-for-the-2024-25-season/ "Executives around the league have poked around to see whether Dallas would part with either center Daniel Gafford or Dereck Lively, but that has been met with initial resistance for now." Per Michael Scotto. Usually Scotto isn't super plugged in with the Mavs. Which is why I find this rumor from him is framed coming from other executives POVs, and essentially he's saying the Mavs are telling teams to F off, Gafford and Lively are here to stay. I am with Scott and Pod here too. This is one of the first times ever in Mavs history where I think any potential trade would hurt more than help. The only guys on my list I'm fine trading is Hardy. hi Maxi, for all of his flaws, is such a unique defensive piece. Is he always injured? Sure. Can he barely score? Sure. I don't really care. He can guard 1-5 even at his age. Plus the chemistry aspect. Maxi fits very well into this locker room. Nico seems to prioritize the personalities of people moreso than the actual talent. IF Hardy can be traded this year, which I don't believe he can due to rookie extension rules, then I'd be all for seeing what we could get for him. Although his modest deal means we aren't getting much back. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: NOP+UTA Talks W/Ingram Failed | SAC Signs Crowder - SleepingHero - 12-03-2024 (12-02-2024, 06:40 PM)gomavs Wrote: 3 observations: 1. OMax hasn't really had a chance. When he has had some chances, he's looked so-so. Defensively great, offensively not great. DFS looked like that for years with heavy minutes before breaking out. OMax has the unfortunate (well, fortunate for us) problem of being on a finals capable team. Minutes are tight. So I'm not ready to write him off yet. But, yes he can still play in the G-League as much as the Mavs want him to play there. 2. I'm actually with you here. Hardy is a fantastic scorer. But after 3 years I just don't think he has it in him to be a valuable contributor on a finals team. He's still too one-dimensional. I think he'd go for more than a 2nd round pick though. 3. Maxi looks done offensively, sure. But like I said above, he's having one of his better defensive seasons. Still think it's silly to trade him. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: NOP+UTA Talks W/Ingram Failed | SAC Signs Crowder - SleepingHero - 12-03-2024 (12-03-2024, 02:30 AM)F Gump Wrote: Yes, he is trade eligible at any time, because of the way his contract was structured. Oh my... I missed this in my CBA class (read- me sitting in my room trying to understand the CBA). I thought due to the timing of Hardy's extension coming after training camp, it prevents him from being able to be traded this year? Does Hardy's contract come with a poison pill calculation as well then? If so, then the math for the Mavs to get a guy like Cam Johnson gets a little bit easier this year (although still practically impossible). |
