What I read said "if" he requires surgery. Ligament damage does not sound good, and this guy does not have a history of playing through pain. If nothing else its a reason for Atlanta to pull an asset out of the deal. I'm just so tired of it. This guy can't make it 5 games without breaking, and now it feels more likely we will be stuck with this for another 2+ years. Well, if they (the Mavs) are as over it as you are, and depending on the length of this absence, I'd think a simple lowering of the asking price might still be on the table. If he's out for the rest of the year, probably not, but like I said, let's at least get some concrete info before panicking. A couple of months still puts him back in time before the end of the season, but would be so much risk for the team trading for him. No way Atlanta gives up anything close to what they would have offered. And we're not even sure the package was all that desirable to begin with. At this point we might as well keep him into the off season and into next season. Hard to imagine they can sell him if he doesn't get back on the court before the deadline. I guess we will see, but the news and his history are not good. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - Chicagojk - 01-09-2026 I really don't think this is bad news. Of course, I was in the camp to hold on to him until you get value. So maybe I am wrong from the start. Was there a deal out there for him that met my criteria? No idea. Sure it sucks and not ideal, but the plan since the poor start is to get Coop a running mate in this draft. The only thing worse the trading AD for a poor package was him staying and helping you win meaningless games and hurt your draft position. Now, this team probably isn't going to win much the rest of the year. Will they get lottery luck again? Time will tell. I have said it before but if the mavs get lucky and get a good running mate next to Cooper, I could care less if AD is here or is moved. Same for Kyrie too. BTW it was definitely a flagrant foul on Lauri's jersey. Refs missed that one. He'll be out until the Ides of March. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - mvossman - 01-09-2026 (01-09-2026, 04:46 PM)Chicagojk Wrote: I really don't think this is bad news. I think Kidd is already tanking by playing the only true PG on the roster 10-20 minutes a game recently. I just don't know why you put fragile AD on the court if you were close to pulling the trigger on something. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - Chicagojk - 01-09-2026 I think the important thing is to find a place for Klay. He deserves to play somewhere else. It may be tough to find a spot for him with this new cap. An expiring and a second round pick would be great. He has no future here and we are not in a win now mode. So clearing his money off the books for next year would be really nice. Second, I would look to give Nembhard a real roster spot. He has deserved it. This will open up a two way spot that they can tie someone down with. I am open moving Gafford and Marshall. I would not be hot and heavy to move them but I am listening and also making calls. I would obviously jump on any potential deals with Dlo, Hardy and Martin. Not sure there is going to be anythhing there. Have Flagg keep doing what he has been doing. Hopefully shoot 5 plus threes per game. I would not overwork him. Keep his minutes safe and don't run him into the ground playing 42-24 minutes a night. Start the GM search. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - Chicagojk - 01-09-2026 It is really quite remarkable the injuries he has had since joining the Mavs. REally only one is a common basketball injury. Incredible bad luck or is his body done? Adductor strain Detached retina Calf strain Hand ligament damage RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - FireNicoHarrison - 01-09-2026 SOFT BUDINO RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - Chicagojk - 01-09-2026 Well at the beginning of the season I said I didn't care about the record but I just wanted to enjoy Mavs basketball again. Cooper has been a joy to watch, but to be honest I really haven't enjoyed the team this year. The Lively injury was a big hurt for me and the lack of creation/shooting is another drain. Might be a rough watch, besides Cooper, for the rest of the year. AD wasn't fun to watch any way though. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - loki - 01-09-2026 With an AD trade unlikely at this point, I think they have to move multiple players to shed salary. Let's say the Mavs luck out and get the 3rd pick in the draft (penciling in a little under $12m). Even if they moved Gafford this TDL for an expiring and replaced him with a vet min contract they would only be $2m under the 2nd apron and would still have a $70m tax bill. Is the one 2nd they own enough to dump a guy like Hardy? I don't think you can get an expiring for Klay at this point. Martin is huge negative that they shouldn't waste assets to offload. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - mvossman - 01-09-2026 (01-09-2026, 04:56 PM)Chicagojk Wrote: It is really quite remarkable the injuries he has had since joining the Mavs. REally only one is a common basketball injury. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - Winter - 01-09-2026 This is pretty much the end of the AD/Doncic trade. There is almost no value that can be retained from it except maybe Max Christie. The sad part of Anthony Davis is that no one really wants him here at this point. We can keep him, but his presence on this team will be nothing more than a painful reminder. The next positive thing we will say about AD is when he is shipped to another team ... for pretty much anything. I think the thing to do now is to focus on upgrading the roster with other trades. Any mention of AD is depressing. Right about now, I wish we had clarity on how the owners feel about the price tag they're looking at over the next couple of seasons if the status quo is maintained. It feels like salary needs to be shed, somehow, but lord almighty I sure hope it doesn't come to actually spending limited assets to do it. I can still get behind the idea that AD here next season, with Flagg, Kyrie, Lively, whomever they draft and anything else leftover might NOT be as depressing as we think, but...I'm not paying the tax bill for this super expensive (losing) team.
