Couldn't care less about on court stuff. I will be back when the Adelson's are gone. Hopefully this is going to accelerate the process.

I'm honestly not sure. I haven't gotten over the trade yet and probably won't ever get past it. I want to ignore the Mavs forever, but at the same time, I really love watching basketball. I don't think I can root for Houston or San Antonio. I don't know what I will do, but it is definitely possible I stop being a fan of the Mavs. I'm definitely not a fan of the new owners, Nico or Kidd now. This may irritate some people, but I hope we make the playoffs and match up with LA. I hope Luka goes scorched fucking earth on the Mavs and gets Nico fired!

I don't even know
At this point, I feel like I'd find sick pleasure if we flamed out in the play-in and Kyrie left for nothing this Summer
I kinda want to watch it all burn down

RE: What is YOUR consequence after Luka leaving? - markus1234 - 02-03-2025

Now that Luka is gone I might actually watch some MAVS games again.

To me he was always a James Harden v 2.0. But it's not just about him. This "new style" of NBA basketball is just too boring overall.

RE: What is YOUR consequence after Luka leaving? - cow - 02-03-2025

Not the biggest Luka fan but I'll be done with the Mavs organization for their continued mismanagement. Little things bothered me about the Nico era, like not even getting a conversation with Brunson, but I wrote that off as league approved tampering from New York and wanted hope that things would be better post-Donnie/Mark. For as bad as they were, I don't think any of their many blunders compare to the Luka situation.

Sports is entertainment.

As I've gotten older, I have become less obsessed with my teams and cared more about the overall product. If I am enjoying watching an NBA game or NFL game, I will watch it. I no longer feel like Jerry Jones is a moron and he's ruining the Cowboys so I have to boycott the NFL. Or Nico is a moron and I hate this trade so I have to boycott the NBA. I no longer enjoyed watching Mavs games because it was not entertaining basketball to me. If we put an entertaining product on the floor (like more ball movement), I will watch it even if I think the chances of "us" winning a title are less.

That's probably the approach I need to take because I hate Jerry and Nico..lol. You have the right idea.

I'm flat still in shock. This is probably the worst trade I've ever seen. Nothing against Anthony Davis--he's a good player. But Luka is a transcendent world class player. Not somebody you trade away! BUT...let's say I get a wild hair up my ass and decide to trade this player. What do I get back? At least a couple of great players and a pot load of first round picks. But I would never trade this player so it is moot. I would keep Luka...warts and all.

I say to myself that I'm not sure what I'll do. The reality is I'll probably still watch the Mavs. It's hard to quit doing something I've bee doing since the early eighties...day one. I don't think Luka had anything to do with this trade. If I find later that he did I'll be even more upset. Till then I'll probably watch Luka play. Problem is...he's now a Laker. Hard to stomach...

I'm still in shock. I feel like I've lost my dog...

Edit: I did vote for "I'm not sure yet"

But I also find myself looking at the schedule so I can watch the game. Weird! I'm in shock! My vision is going...I see stars...

There is an emotional element to this for many of us that is difficult to quantify, and we should all try to be sensitive about this.

For whatever reason, I can kind of already tell that I'll get over losing Luka faster than I got over losing Brunson (still not over that, tbh).

What I can't get over is the sinking feeling that by the end of next year it will be clear that this team isn't going anywhere, and THEN WHAT? We all meet back here in 2032?

But of course if that happens, I will regard the NBA similarly to the WWE moving forward.

I voted Option one, but should have voted Option four.

This trade is so OBVIOUSLY lopsided, that you have to consider that Nico Harrison knew it.  And, if he knew it, why on earth would he proceed with it?  One of 2 reasons: either he knew Luka was leaving anyway and was trying to get anything he could, OR he was directed to do so by the head honchos in the NBA.

I have seen enough suspicious stuff to believe that the answer is #2.  Remember how we were cheated (and I DO mean CHEATED) out of a championship in 2006?  A similar thing happened to the Sacramento Kings a couple years before that.  When there are lopsided trades, who is on the winning end?  The Lakers or the Celtics.  The League knows where the money/viewership is.

I have been a Mavericks fan since DAY 1!!! I suffered through the 1990's, when they were overall the worst team in all of professional sports.  I felt the pain of Steve Nash's leaving.  Things were so bad in the 90s that one time I wore a bag over my head to a game.  I was in the bleachers to glory in the victory over the Lakers in the Mother's Day Massacre.

Yes, I have come to the conclusion that, although more subtle, the NBA is choreographed just like the WWE.  So, you can watch it for fun, but don't get emotionally involved because the puppetmasters can break your heart whenever they want.

If I want a basketball fix, I will wait for the NCAA season, or watch old reruns.

I am out.

If this is true and the league asked them to trade Luka to the Fakers, then there should be compensation.  1. The Mavs should receive the # 1 pick in the 2025 draft.  Just like NO received Zion after AD left for the Fakers.  OR

2.  The league has given the Mavs new owners permission to relocate the team to Las Vegas.  When is that new arena going to open?

RE: What is YOUR consequence after Luka leaving? - Benskix2 - 02-03-2025

I'm out on the NBA for now. I don't really care about the rest of the league, only how if effects the Mavs, and now I have zero hope for the present or future of the team, so I don't really care what happens with the rest of the league.

Donnie Nelson doesn't look so bad anymore huh?

Donnie was a lot of things, but at least he knew to never touch the golden goose.

He also would have never built a team like this one filled with 2 way guys. Nico has done a lot of good. But this one move is such an unforgivable sin.

RE: What is YOUR consequence after Luka leaving? - michaeltex - 02-03-2025

I went for "not sure", although I'll probably watch at least the remainder of this season. Mostly from a curiosity of how the new guys fit and how it changes the team's play style. Still a fan of PJ, Gaff, DLive and even Kyrie. I'm thinking that any player worried about getting touches before, will have ample opportunities going forward.

For those of us who followed Dirk's career, his handoff to Luka seemed like a natural extension. Now that progression has ended suddenly and left no obvious heir apparent. As a result I, too, feel somewhat adrift.

FWIW, just having this forum to follow, read other's posts and find out that we are all feeling the same things has really helped the last few days. I sincerely appreciate the sharing and support. That has always been one of the best things about this group and I hope the team gives us enough reasons to keep it going.

He does but this just proves his IQ was north of 70.

Guess I’m watching and rooting for two teams now instead of one. But definitely going with Luka and hoping he can finish what he started and gain some vindication.

I'm going to see how this ends up. If we don't win a chip in the next 3 years, I'm going to be a FMFFL

RE: What is YOUR consequence after Luka leaving? - audiosway - 02-03-2025

I honestly don’t know. Part of me totally gets it with his conditioning. It’s frustrating. However, he is also a 25 year old legend in the making. He isn’t a Harden that gets lost in the mix of an era. I do think they will be the best defensive team in the league now. But, neither AD or Kyrie are dogs. Luka is a dog. He has everything but conditioning. It almost feels like Nico and Kidd are looking at winning right now to preserve themselves even if it means sacrificing a future. I may be wrong. That’s just how it feels.

As dirty as it feels I will be watching Lakers games. I live in the Bay Area so I get them all the time. I’m also noticing as I get older I don’t feel locked into just one team anymore. It’s like another poster mentioned. Same with football.
