I'd like to try a double bracketed tournament where the teams are divided into two fixed sections representing the conferences with 7 teams from the opposing conference. The winners of each section are offered the 4 seed in the conference playoffs. There would then be a final game with the winner being offered their choice: a) the 3rd seed in either conference, b) the extra draft pick at the end of the 1st, c) $2 million per player (not making over $15 mil p/yr) vs $500k for per player for taking options a/b or those making more than $15 mil per year.

For the teams winning each section, all money paid to the players would result in a one time voucher good for an equal amount against the Luxury Tax.

Re-seeding the conferences diminishes the appeal of offering the conference seeds as a prize, but the appeal would be that the stronger conference could conceivably get 10 teams into the playoffs.

Per Player payouts:
Champion - $500k - $2 million (1)
Section winner - $400k (1)
Section Finalist - $300k (2)
Section Semi-Finalist - $250k (4)
Section Quarter-Finalist - $200k (8)
1 and Done - $150k (14)

Such a weird, warped view on picks
Reads like a parody

A point system only works in NHL and Soccer because there can be draws. What happens for a loss? 0 points? 1 point?

At that point (pun intended), points just=wins. So why not just call them wins?

Jesus Christ. Sometimes I think Cuban doesn´t deserve Dirk and Luka. It´s basically the difference between him owning the Mavs and Knicks for the last 20 years, yet here is again bitchin and moanin about the draft and $2M salary commitments, while throwing $70M at guys like Dampier and Noel. Dodgy

But we all knew that once they talked about draft pick compensation for the tournament winner that the Mavs became a 1st round bye.

Again that's pointless
We all want the top 16 teams regardless of conference in the playoffs but they keep ignoring that for some reason

It seems like the NBA is very reluctant to eliminate conferences....but if they do this then you have no true conference champion.....weird.

The last time this came up in regards to eliminating Conferences, there was a significant reluctance on the part of the Eastern Conference teams to lose their potential playoff shares, especially the Atlantic Coast teams.
Cleveland was the dominant team in the conference and the Western Conference was much stronger. there was a strong possibility that Boston would be the only team from the current Atlantic division to qualify as a home court team.

Scheduling is the hardest part of this process. I would thinjk that a balanced chedule is the first step in eliminating the conferences.
