RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - mvossman - 01-07-2026 (01-07-2026, 04:47 PM)Nowitzki Way Wrote: So many things to consider with Christie involved. For one, he has a player option after next year. If he keeps ascending, do the Mavs want to pay him big money? I would expect Mavs want to keep Max and pay him his market value when the time comes. I don't see a deal being made for that NOP pick. There is too much variability in the outcome for the teams to come to agreement. NOP is thinking they could be giving away the number 1 pick and the Mavs are thinking it could end up worse than their own pick. Its similar to the Lively extension. The are too many outcomes and both sides don't want to make that big of a gamble. I get all the Pelicans have no incentive to lose, but they also 3-29 outside of that weird five game win streak. I don´t think they get better. More a question of how much worse you think Utah, Washington, Sacramento, Brooklyn and Charlotte can get. Atlanta would have a massive amount of expiring going into the offseason if they do this trade. Seems very likely the intent is to absorb AD into a lot of it. In addition to whatever longterm assets DAL is able to pull from this, they've got to be salivating over the prospect of watching Porzingis AND Kennard slide right off of their books this summer. That's a pretty huge chunk of relief. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - mvossman - 01-07-2026 (01-07-2026, 06:54 PM)KillerLeft Wrote: In addition to whatever longterm assets DAL is able to pull from this, they've got to be salivating over the prospect of watching Porzingis AND Kennard slide right off of their books this summer. That's a pretty huge chunk of relief. Its huge. The Mavs currently have the 4th largest payroll. Not where you want to be when trying to rebuild. Its hard to get anything done when pinned up against the 2nd apron. Its the biggest reason you don't just ride with AD as it would be another two years after this one of his massive rising salary. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - Smitty - 01-07-2026 @ShamsCharania BREAKING: The Atlanta Hawks are trading four-time NBA All-Star Trae Young to the Washington Wizards for CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert, sources tell ESPN. Moving Young also provides Atlanta with added financial flexibility to pursue a large salary over the next several months – with Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis as a prime in-season trade target. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - Dirknows - 01-07-2026 The first domino to fall. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - HoosierDaddyKid - 01-07-2026 The Wizards are operating like they're the Kings. They're crazy for taking on over 90 million left on Trae's deal. Are they seriously trying to build around him? He's small and a sieve on defense. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - Mavs03 - 01-07-2026 Zaccharie Risacher having the game of his life today: 25 points (8-13 FG; 7-9 3 PT) 8 rebounds Showing off to the Dallas brain trust. On a side note, Onyeka Okongwu didn't play today due to an "illness". If you're the Mavs, would you want the 20 year old Risacher who is still developing or the 25 year old Okongwu who is having a breakout season averaging 16 points 8 rebounds 3 assists and 1 block. What's impressive is that he's shooting 49 % from the field, 36 % from 3 point land, and 77% from the FT line. I also like his trajectory as he's improved every year that he's been in the league. AD for expiring contracts (KP and Kennard), young player (Risacher or Okongwu) and draft capital (Atlanta currently has 2 1st round picks in 2026 - New Orleans and Cleveland) I think Okongwu is the player that I'm targeting RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - Dirknows - 01-07-2026 (01-07-2026, 09:57 PM)Mavs03 Wrote: Zaccharie Risacher having the game of his life today: Depends on how much the Mavs value Risacher. I personally don’t see it with him but he’s got more potential than Okongwu, who we know who he is at this point. Not getting the NOP pick so Okongwu+expirings+a middle first round pick does that excite anyone? Not me. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - DanSchwartzgan - 01-07-2026 (01-07-2026, 09:28 PM)Smitty Wrote: @ShamsCharania Atlanta is $8.3mm under the tax after this deal. It narrows down the possibilities a bit if the goal is to keep Atlanta under the tax after an AD deal. It also takes Atlanta up to 15 players (they had been at 14). If the deal is KP/Kennard/Risacher for AD, it leaves them $9.1mm under the tax, but that is a 3 for 1 deal, so Dallas would need to send out more people. Kispert could end up here as there are ways of doing him without aggregating him. Does this give Mavs more leverage? RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - soog - 01-07-2026 Next domino! Next domino!!! Maybe if they send CJ instead? Couldn’t they also waive players instead like Exum for instance? Yes, you can trade one player and waive one player (Exum) to get to 15, but then you don’t have a path add Nembhard. The point I was making is the world of possibilities narrowed just a bit. Maybe if they send CJ instead? Unless they expand this deal before it is legal, it would be tough to send CJ here in a non-aggregated way. Plus, I think they want him to take up some of Trae’s role in the backcourt.
