He recently was on a 2-way with the Bulls. Still didn´t get him a job. Just saying. Also he was on the Mavs/Legends already. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: Plenty of Vets still Available. - SleepingHero - 07-21-2024 @MavsFilmRoom Marc Stein reports that the Mavericks are “moving deliberately” in filling their final roster spot, with the likely candidates being Spencer Dinwiddie, Dennis Smith Jr., and Talen Horton-Tucker. Dinwiddie is the top candidate. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25: Plenty of Vets still Available. - Chicagojk - 07-21-2024 (07-21-2024, 02:59 PM)SleepingHero Wrote: @MavsFilmRoom Interesting. Hadn't considered Tucker once. He had fans here several years ago. Still only 23. Not a point guard but can dribble. I would guess Smith Jr would be the most likely guy. Dinwiddie may be the best player, but he would need some kind of plan for getting minutes (playing over Exum). I don't know if I could make that commitment. Sign Dumbwiddie with a promise of playing time? Maybe we should trade PJ and Gifford for Randle and hire D'Antoni as coach after all. Not sure I get the hate? He was a perfect fit last time he was here, and he makes a lot of sense in a reduced role. He would be very helpful to have when one of Luka/Kyrie are out. If he is promised regular playing time, then one or both of Hardy/Exum are taking a hit. We are talking about a vet min signing. This isn't in the ballpark of that silly Randle trade proposal. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25:Stein: Mavs Moving to Fill Last Roster Spot; Dinwiddie, DSJ, THT - KillerLeft - 07-21-2024 I hope Dinwiddie isn't signed. If he IS signed, I hope he doesn't steal a rotation spot from either Exum or especially Hardy. That would be a step too far away from the youth I was so excited about just one year ago. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25:Stein: Mavs Moving to Fill Last Roster Spot; Dinwiddie, DSJ, THT - Razzmatazz_Hopskidillydoo - 07-21-2024 Knowing Kidd -- he'd get significant minutes for SD (if THJ could under Kidd, SD will have better chances/opportunities). If Hardy or Exum had been that third pg the team desperately needs to lighten the Luka/Kyrie load, there'd be no need for Dinwiddie, DSJ or whomever, but, to me, cutting back the minutes of our two stars should be a primary goal 24-25. Seems like most Lakers fans feel the same about Dinwiddie. Still for one of your last roster spots, you could do much worse. Here is Hollinger write up on THT earlier this summer in his shooting guard rankings. 8. Talen Horton-Tucker, Utah: $11,726,973 This likely wildly overvalues Horton-Tucker, who has an interesting intersection of age (23) and shot creation but has never put the ball in the basket effectively enough to warrant having it in his hands so much. The eye is drawn first to his iffy 3-ball (29.3 percent career), but the 43.8 percent mark on shots inside the arc last season was arguably the bigger problem. He’d be an upside play for a rebuilding team, especially one with a shot doctor on staff. I just have zero interest whatsoever replacing a defensive guy like Exum in the 8-man rotation with a bad defense guy, no matter how good he is on the other end. Especially one who badmouthed our team, when he knew us way too well to say such garbage as he did. Douche. No thank you. Not true whatsoever if Dinwiddie got 8-man rotation minutes, which he would (even worse if it's a promised condition of him signing). You go from DJJ, Green, PJ, Lively, Gafford, Exum, and Maxi as our top seven next to Luka and Kyrie, to Splash Grandpa, PJ, Lively, Dinwiddie, Gafford, Marshall, and Grimes or Exum. That's a lot more defensive holes. Here is Hollinger write up on THT earlier this summer in his shooting guard rankings. THT basically had one season where he looked like he might become something. Even then, his TS% was only .535...his career best. Some of his advanced stats were decent and if you looked at certain splits you could see how this 20 year old might be figuring some things out. Dudley played with him that year and Kidd was his assistant coach. It wasn't that he was good in 20/21. He didn't completely suck and occasionally looked like he might could become something. Since then, he hasn't been the same. It seems that almost everyone we bring in has a history with Nico or Kidd or Dudley or someone. It wouldn't shock me if he was the 15th player. To me, its like drafting in the 50's. Do we really care about late seconds and 15th players on the roster? |
