They won't be.
That's what all the rumors have been about this whole time. He's on the trade market specifically because they have decided not to give him that contract. I'm not a bit worried about that.

In my original post I said I hope they can get a reasonable offer. I have not said trade him just to trade him. But I don't think the options are likely to be better in the offseason, I think the Mavs extending him would be a disaster and running this roster back with a disgruntled AD doesn't make much sense either.

I like this. We could probably use someone like TJD to play center. I’d also seek to add a Kennard for Martin swap to the deal since Dallas is taking on Trae.
One advantage to this for the front office is that the Luka deal is still incomplete. There is still some chance to get some return for Trae. Additionally, adding more players like Gafford and Thompson starts to muddy and direct “all we got for Luka was” talk that you would better be able to isolate in a deal where it is just expiring contracts and picks plus Risacher.

If the Mavs go end up trading for Trae and I'm not saying they should, but does that mean they would move Kyrie? You absolutely can't play 2 undersized guards in the starting lineup.

Honestly I don't think it's worth the candle to eat Trae's contract for only a mid pick in this draft. Mavs should insist on getting the rights to swap with Pels pick at very least in this scenario.

Steve Kerr, championship coach for the GSW isn't interested in playing Kuminga, at all. Yet the Mavs should be interested in trading for him? Trae Young. So what? Coaches get things wrong all the time and balanced teams win championships. You can´t win one without offense either, otherwise we´d be in the top 10, not the bottom 10.
Trae Young is actually a perfect (two year) fit for the developmental phase of our offensively challenged team that has literally two guards that should play more than 15 MPG in the NBA. If we get another superstar forward talent like Boozer or Dybantsa, we need a PG that can actually run an offense and throw those lobs to Gafford, Lively, Flagg, Risacher and X, not trying to drive with blinders like Williams or throw lobs into the stands like Hardy. You want to win and develop young players at the same time, but think Brandon Williams and Ryan Nembhard, who are just as tall and sh*t on defense as Young, will be sufficient to do that.

Also: we have to trade AD ASAP, period. I understand the logic behind “not shipping him for a bag of beans” or “letting him build up his value,” but people making this argument ignore the fact that he is one serious injury away from being toast. I’d rather get out of this nightmare now and cut our losses. I do not want to risk him getting injured and being stuck with AD having zero trade value.

This isn't a trade they can mess up. There is no chance they trade him unless they get proper value. I share your worry about him getting injured again, as does every other Mavs fan, but it's the risk they have to take to get a strong return. A strong return is super important for the future of this franchise.

I mean does everyone want him? The Warriors want him, but don't want to part with Green or Butler. The Bucks want him but have no reasonable way to get him. Toronto wants him but would have to send bad contracts. Atlanta currently seems like the only good match and its not surprising that is where all the smoke is coming from. Right now it seems like the trade would be structured around KP + Risacher + pick(s) and the haggling is on the picks. I have very little interest in Kuminga, but trading KP for him make some sense given he has a club option next season.

I came up with the exact same trade, but I’d insist on the NOP pick instead of the Cavs pick. I almost included this proposal in my initial post about Kuminga but didn’t want to distract from the conversation about Kuminga.
I still don’t buy that the NOP is untouchable. It’s the price you pay for turning Young and Risacher into AD. The Hawks are a .500 team in an east which is wide open. I think they are desperate enough to do this.

Of course the package are not always good for us... But there are at least 8/9 teams interested.
