Even coming off the bench this season...he's still in the top 20 in the NBA in total made 3's. That's what the Mavs got him for... coming off the NBA finals loss where they couldn't make a 3. It's a good point about Klay The problem is that Klay doesn't play enough minutes to impact the game... and doesn't provide enough perimeter defense to make his offensive contribution effective. But I love that guy. What a professional. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - RoyTarpleysGhost - 12-29-2025 I'd go ask Klay straight up what he wants. If he can find a destination, I think doing him a solid would look good for the regime. I don't think he has much positive trade value anyway. A 2nd and an expiring salary? PJ, Gafford, and Naji I'd probably ask for one first rd pick or one young player that fits this roster better. Sure, but the Mavs got him as a last piece for a contending team, not to be on a team rebuilding around a 19 year old. My guess is this is a move Klay would prefer. I think you are interpreting folks wanting to get rid of him whatever it takes when its actually simply a difference in valuation. You think AD has or will have more value than a lot of the rest of us do. You think that package from Atlanta discussed has less value than some others do. I don't think anyone is saying to dump him at all costs. I think folks want fair value for him, just not everyone is on the same page as to what that is. I think all of this is premature, as they need to START by getting an expert GM to handle the road ahead. It's that cart-horse thing. So it does not look like they are going to pull the trigger on a GM move prior to TDL. Are you suggesting that no moves be made until that happens, regardless of what is offered? I will be rooting for him. A lot of guys don't get to finish in the ideal spot, but I hope he gets a chance to play meaningful games. An expiring and a second is all i expect, if possible. Maybe if there are a few teams involved you could get a nibble more. On the other hand, I will never root for Morant. I expect his career continues its downward trend. Future face of the league, huh? https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/1pywalx/ja_morant_after_sharing_words_with_a_heckling/ RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - Winter - 12-29-2025 (12-29-2025, 05:22 PM)Chicagojk Wrote: On the other hand, I will never root for Morant. I expect his career continues its downward trend. Future face of the league, huh? Morant is almost in a class by himself. There were always players that could turn it around at some point - Kyrie is a good example. But Morant's behavior is so bad, so thuggish, that's it hard to imagine that he could become anything other than that. He shuns every opportunity to change. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - Mavs2021 - 12-29-2025 Zach Lowe having a podcast that the Hawks have reached the breaking point with Young means the Hawks have reached the national meltdown stage. Beautiful negotiation position for the Mavs. Sounds like we can get Young, Risacher and at least two 1st round picks (Cavs 2026 + X). Maybe we can even dump Martin in the process or get a 3rd pick for Marshall. This is exactly the kind of moment to pounce. EDIT:MacMahon on the Hoop Collective also saying Young has zero trade value. I have to say if the Mavs are using the media here to subtly gaslight the Hawks, then I like the new Co-GMs already, if the trade result is accordingly. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - F Gump - 12-29-2025 (12-29-2025, 05:15 PM)mvossman Wrote: So it does not look like they are going to pull the trigger on a GM move prior to TDL. Are you suggesting that no moves be made until that happens, regardless of what is offered? That isn't a reasonable question to ask. Too open-ended. It's a question that needs qualifiers, and wading through those makes it a beating. But in general, yes I think the hiring of the expert GM should precede any moves that are difference-makers in terms of the talent level and direction of the franchise. I also think they need to first be satisfied that Kyrie-AD-Flagg is not their answer AND they need to ascertain if/how the trade itself would actually improve on Kyrie-AD-Flagg (which is a question for the new GM to figure out). I also think they need the expert GM who can get the best super-high return for AD or any other valued talents they might swap out. Once the page turns, there's also negotiating value in having a new sheriff for other teams to deal with. They can't assume the Mavs will let go of anyone easily or stupidly (which is a change from the past), and will have to make a strong offer to get someone they need. OTOH if they can find a deal to move Martin or Hardy for an expiring contract (or maybe DAR too), sure, that's easy. No need to wait for [Presti]. But that's not a loss of talent. We need to try and decrease our salary, not increase or take on future money. Only way I would take Young is if they threw in NOP pick and a 2027 first. Yep, for me that's the hinge to getting the deal the Mavs would need if they send AD to ATL. Give in on Trae (with no delusions of him having secret value or being a sly fit) but do it ONLY at a price that compensates DAL fully for the value ATL would get. Trae-Risacher- NO1-another FRP (with limited protection at first, but DAL eventually gets a FRP no matter what) FOR AD-Martin Why? Both sides get the primary benefits they really want, plus a bit more. -- ATL gets out of Trae contract, loses no real [proven/desired] talent only picks, their front line becomes VERY versatile and formidable (AD, KP, Okongwu), does NOT pay tax. -- DAL gets picks, gets minor salary reduction now, retains room for Nemby, better cap future even though eating the salary for Trae. One important note: Even though the Mavs would be choking down Trae's 50M deal for a year, they would still be in better position capwise in 2026. Right now they are staring at about 5-6M over A2 in 2026 (assuming no moves and DAR opts in). After this trade they would be ~3M under A2 in 2026 (assuming no moves and DAR opts in). ATL would still be in good shape capwise, since KP is retained so he comes off their cap in 2026. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - Dirknows - 12-29-2025 It’s starting to feel like this AD trade could happen sooner than later. Unless Dumont really wants to wait and see Flagg/AD/Kyrie. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - KillerLeft - 12-29-2025 We're dancing around it a little, but I think most agree. It's a matter of plausibility for some, I think. Take on Young, IF it's the way to get that Pelicans pick (plus some other decent stuff, like Risacher and another pick or two). Without that pick on the table, I don't entertain solving Atlanta's financial troubles for even a second. I'm already giving them AD, for crying out loud. Before anyone says "they wouldn't trade that pick" then go ahead and fill in my "then I'm not taking Young" response. That's a hard line for me. Even with that Pelicans pick, I don't love the idea of having to deal with Young next year, so I hope they're able to get off of him this summer in some fairly productive way. Now...in a deal based around Porzingis, I might be inclined to accept less. Less than some, anyway, but I'd probably still hold out for more than others would. Unless Dumont really wants to wait and see Flagg/AD/Kyrie. This is when the rumors always start up. It might be indicative that something is going to happen soon, but then again, it's always like this for about a month. I think the difference is that the Mavs are usually buyers, and last second buyers at that. This time around they have one of the biggest names for sale, so we're going to get more Mavs-centric news during this trade season...especially since I don't think Giannis will even be traded. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - RoyTarpleysGhost - 12-29-2025 If the deal is just for KP, Kennard, Risacher, and a 1st....do you trade AD at the deadline? I feel like the fan base is split 50/50. I'm conflicted. That's a depressing return. But I also think it's reality. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - KillerLeft - 12-29-2025 Not the biggest sample size in the world, but not the smallest, either. Just saying...Risacher might be getting a little underrated around here. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - RoyTarpleysGhost - 12-29-2025 Browsing the other team's fan forum is a fun exercise when trade rumors are circulating.
