You're correct. F Gump is saying he thinks they want a 1 million dollar cushion. No cushion and we can sign 2 minimum players. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25:MIA Favs for DeRozan |SAC Will Not Trade Keegan Murray - Smitty - 07-03-2024 (07-03-2024, 01:34 PM)Smitty Wrote: The Mavs have 4.7M to work with below the apron if they waive Lawson. Technically you could sign 2 Vet Min players and remain $526,220 below the Apron but F Gump has pointed out that the Mavs will likely leave 1M or more of cushion. So to answer your question, it seems unlikely. I did the math earlier on adding two vet minimum players after waiving Lawson. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25:MIA Favs for DeRozan |SAC Will Not Trade Keegan Murray - BigDirk41 - 07-03-2024 Is the cushion important for future moves or what's the reasoning? RE: Trade & FA 2024-25:MIA Favs for DeRozan |SAC Will Not Trade Keegan Murray - KillerLeft - 07-03-2024 Unless I am badly misunderstanding something, which is very possible, I don’t see enough room for two veteran minimum salaries, even without the cushion. Unless that 3.7 “apron room“ already has a cap hold factored in for the 14th spot. Unless that 3.7 “apron room“ already has a cap hold factored in for the 14th spot. The 3.7M is factoring in the 1M cushion already. So technically they have 4.7M that the absolutely for no reason can go over! RE: Trade & FA 2024-25:MIA Favs for DeRozan |SAC Will Not Trade Keegan Murray - KillerLeft - 07-03-2024 Also, I understand that the cushion is factored in, but what I’m asking about is the 14th roster spot. That’s a required carry, and Lawson is not on that form, so is the 14th spot cap hold figured into that 3.7 number? RE: Trade & FA 2024-25:MIA Favs for DeRozan |SAC Will Not Trade Keegan Murray - BigDirk41 - 07-03-2024 (07-03-2024, 08:04 PM)KillerLeft Wrote: Right, and the veteran minimum is what, 3.3 million? Because the NBA doesn’t want teams to avoid signing veteran players in favor of cheaper, younger players, the league reimburses clubs who sign veterans with three or more years of experience to one-year, minimum-salary contracts. Those deals will only count against the cap – and against a team’s bank balance – for $2,087,519, the minimum salary for a player with two years of experience. For instance, Eric Gordon, who has 16 seasons of NBA experience, will reportedly sign a one-year, minimum-salary contract with the Sixers, who will only be charged $2,087,519 for Gordon’s contract. He’ll earn $3,303,771, but the NBA will make up the difference. This only applies to one-year contracts, not to multiyear deals. This is where we need Gump to chime in. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25:MIA Favs for DeRozan |SAC Will Not Trade Keegan Murray - SleepingHero - 07-03-2024 Markieff Morris confirms he will be the last roster spot. But he wants the Mavs to bring his brother in too. @Keefmorris I’m coming back. I want bro to come with me. Like, would the first vet minimum signing (of two) just basically cancel a cap hold out, or has his spreadsheet not factored that Hold into the total yet? I’m probably asking this question in the worst way possible, sorry. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25:MIA Favs for DeRozan |SAC Will Not Trade Keegan Murray - Smitty - 07-03-2024 (07-03-2024, 08:12 PM)KillerLeft Wrote: Right, but is that factored into the 3.7 number below the cushion he wants? You’re waiving the 14th player and replacing with another player on a vet minimum. RE: Trade & FA 2024-25:MIA Favs for DeRozan |SAC Will Not Trade Keegan Murray - KillerLeft - 07-03-2024 (07-03-2024, 08:14 PM)Smitty Wrote: There’s no cap hold. You’re waiving the 14th player and replacing with another player on a vet minimum. But there has to be a cap hold, because there is no 14th guy on that form. He didn’t include Lawson, and I remember asking him about that the other night. I believe they are required to carry 14 players, but not 15, so some type of cap hold has to be in place for the 14th roster spot, right? What I am asking right now, very poorly, is whether or not he has included that cap hold for slot 14 into his thinking when coming up with that 174m + “apron salary” number. Because if so, it seems like a vet minimum contract, would you guys tell me only counts about that same amount, would simply replace that cap hold that is already factored in, meaning they’d THEN still have the 3.7 under his cushion. I assume the answer is no, but does what I’m asking make sense? |
