Add another all-time great of Dirk to the list and you have 42 out of 43 championships

Correct. Don't know why he's left off, unless the criteria is multiple championships which those listed have won.

I think Mitchell with the Knicks is interesting.    I think he is a better player than he showed in our series.   I want to laugh at the Knicks boards regarding free agency trades, but then I remember who I root for.   They don't want to give up Barrett and only one of Obi, Quickly and Grimes if that.   They have extra first round picks but most have pretty strict protections on them.   Pretty funny reading Knicks fan talk about Randle or Fournier packages with picks.

I like Barrett and think he will keep on getting better.   He is a better defender but he isn't a great shooter.  I think I would use him to get Mitchell.  The question is how much more would Danny want.  Would he prefer picks or some of the young players?

My fear is next year we start hearing rumors that Dallas is waiting for the eventual Beal or Lillard trade.

It is finals, not titles.
Shaq played 2006 finals and Lebron 2011 finals.

Ah, gotcha - I got too distracted by not seeing Dirk's name on an all time great list  Wink

How so? I don't think the situations are comparable at all.

Brunson is on a declining contract for what I believe is a very reasonable overall price, and as Marks mentioned (very well known, actually) there's a new TV contract coming soon that will very likely result in a significant cap jump.

Lillard just signed an extension to an extension that will guarantee him $63 million dollars during a season in which he'll be 36 years old. There is almost no chance that will end well.

Denver will be a problem, if healthy.

There are a lot of teams in the West that will be problems.  You stand pat, you'll get  left behind.

Oh, for sure. This is probably the deepest the NBA has been in my lifetime when it comes to cores you can talk yourself into being scared of. There are really only 1-2 bad teams, on paper.

The biggest threats to leapfrog Dallas, imo, are Denver, New Orleans and the Clippers.

They valued him over Ayton, because Simmons said (and Rusilo agreed): "I'd rather have Brunson at $25 million than Ayton on a MAX."

I honestly can't believe there are people here who think Brunson got overpaid. When you look at the declining contract and think about how much the cap is going to go up...it's going to be a bargain, imo.

Naw.  Next year is the year of Dragic...

Just like the last 14 years (or so).

A good thought exercise would be to look at the other players in Brunson’s tier and imagine those franchises letting their players walk for nothing. It’s a subjective list, true, and each situation is discrete with different extenuating circumstances, but Simmons/Russillo have Mikhael Bridges and Wiggins right in front of JB. To think of those guys walking with no compensation is absolutely absurd. Or even the players behind Brunson. That’s the level of Cuban fuckery we are dealing with. We lowballed our very well-liked, respected, homegrown, second best player. Because Cuban is cheap/incompetent/in financial difficulty (or some combination of). It’s hard to overstate what a colossal fuck-up it was/is. Not to mention missing on Bane possibly in part because of a disfunctional draft war room wherein our GM reportedly walked out of the room during the draft(!)
