RE: Around the NBA 2019-2020 | $109.1M cap (same), $139M luxury tax line (+$7M)? - Aussiebballer - 10-31-2020 If Morey decides to break up the process.. How about Embiid and Scott to Brooklyn Allen, Levert and Dinwiddie to Philli Philli move Simmons to PF and get much deeper with more scoring options. Dinwiddie Levert Tobias Harris Simmons Allen Brooklyn create the best top end talent in the East (when healthy) Irving Joe Harris Prince Durant Embiid RE: Around the NBA 2019-2020 | $109.1M cap (same), $139M luxury tax line (+$7M)? - KillerLeft - 10-31-2020 You don't hire Doc Rivers and then immediately move Simmons or Embiid. Maybe next off season, but that hire was clearly a high-priced swing for "Welcome, coach. We have so much invested in these two young guys. Please make it work." Not even Morey can make a move like that during his first month on the job. And if they keep one, it should really be Simmons. I totally agree with that.OTOH, you don't hire Morey who admits that keeping Yao and TMac together was his biggest mistake, and then insist to keep both. Honestly, hiring both doesn't make sense to me. I think they will keep Simmons and Embiid but I think Morey will trade one in 2021, most likely Embiid RE: Around the NBA 2019-2020 | $109.1M cap (same), $139M luxury tax line (+$7M)? - Mavsfan12 - 11-02-2020 (10-31-2020, 07:07 PM)khaled1987 Wrote:(10-31-2020, 04:46 PM)KillerLeft Wrote: You don't hire Doc Rivers and then immediately move Simmons or Embiid. Not even Morey can make a move like that during his first month on the job. A trade that would work wonders for them is to trade Embiid to Was for Beal... That would allow Simmons to operate down on the block where he is very effective and can have one of the best array of perimeter shooters in the League. Completely changes their dynamic in a single move - making a weakness their strength. Simmons/Beal/Richardson/Harris/Horford. That's a squad, tbh. Talk about a team that could switch at will. wow. And that is totally a Morey team. In one move. I get what you're saying here, and I agree morally speaking, looking at recent events and the league's overall situation, but if there's a lockout with the season already starting so late, then 2020-21 likely goes completely bye-bye. Not sure if that just skips the vicissitudes of that year's contracts and such and moves things on to calendar 2021, or if everything gets pushed back a year. The bubble was the stupidest idea the NBA could have done. Should've washed the season and started the new one on schedule. This way the revenue would be made up over the course of a regular 82 game season, versus a 200 million expense to try and recoup any sort of losses. Now the next season is in jeopardy. Adam Silver is by far the worst commissioner the NBA has ever had. From cheapening the product by putting ads on jerseys to killing NBA.com and making league pass considerably worse since 2015, to consistently making shortsighted choices that has overall hurt the NBA as a brand. The valuation of teams has skyrocketed due to the TV deal that was signed in 2012, so I'm not giving him any credit for that one. Dude has got to go. I will say though, he has done some things I like like getting rid of Donald Sterling. He stepped up and made an example of him. RE: Around the NBA 2019-2020 | $109.1M cap (same), $139M luxury tax line (+$7M)? - KillerLeft - 11-02-2020 Yeah, you guys are full on crazy right now. I'm jonesing for basketball in a major way, and the bubble is one of the few things that made life worth living during that couple of months. I live alone and took social distancing really seriously. I didn't see or speak to another human being for weeks at a time. Give me basketball, ASAP. RE: Around the NBA 2019-2020 | $109.1M cap (same), $139M luxury tax line (+$7M)? - Mavsfan12 - 11-02-2020 I want a season ASAP. I also want the League to keep the salary cap artificially high and escrow a larger portion of salaries. Prevents a huge downturn now, and a huge jump later. I don't have a lot of sympathy for the players in this ordeal. I have generally sided with owners in the previous NBA labor issues though. Having guaranteed contracts and the players being promised 50% of all league revenue is a sweetheart deal. Outside of MLB (which is dying a horrific yet slow death), they have the best deal. So if the season is delayed, I would want a lockout to send a msg. It is a perfect time to do it - less risk of lost revenue since Covid is already killing that. I just want a consistent cap so that the Mavs perfect window doesn't get screwed by all of this! I want another year of talking about the big name we're going to attract! Let's move on to the 22 offseason and that crop of FA! Honestly, I see it happening if the NBPA pushes it so far that they can't start on Christmas. Also, this is the danger of giving in to demands in general. As soon as you do, the goal line shifts and the next thing is "the worst thing imaginable and has to go". Danny Green came out and said that players would miss the first month of the season if they didn't postpone. Comments like that would be grounds for a lockout in general. The league has been fighting LeBron's pussification of the league for a few years now. Players are missing tons of games and still collecting checks. It is outrageous and unprecedented in sports. I would hope that if they do lockout, management holds out for harsh financial penalties FOR THE PLAYERS who miss games. It is hard for any individual team to stand up to their superstar at the risk of making them disgruntled... but as a league, they need to address this concept. You can't just say you aren't going to show up. Ludicrous. I still think this is just a bit of a show before agreement is reached this week. Perhaps some minor things are still being negotiated and this is how both sides show their muscles. Player saying "we won't play" and league saying "there will be no (or at least far less) money". Do you remember how LeBron said he will not play in front of empty stands and how quickly he changed his mind? Remember how Lakers and Clippers said they want to end the bubble after that last police incident and then nothing really happened? One third of players haven't played for 9 months. Another third is resting since September. They all had a three months break before the bubble. I think those guys are very hungry to go on court again.
