Here is why you trade for a 35 year old JJ Reddick.  Notice where Kuzma is standing in the half court set.  This is not in transition, but after the offense and defense are set.

There is no question he attracts attention when he is in the game.  I have been thrilled at what we have seen so far.  Some turnovers from JJ.  I can't decide if they are all bad decisions or if he and his teammates are not in synch yet.

Sync and Rust
Great trade. Too bad it would be tough to keep him next year.

Yeah, but who knows?  Maybe if COVID restrictions are lifted and NY gets more lax on it, they might be better.
Mavs have the ability to overpay him quite a bit. If they want him back badly enough, it's possible.
Might be more amenable to not playing in Brooklyn post pandemic when his family can visit him on weekends without having to quarantine.

It's almost like his BBIQ is so much higher than the bench players he's usually in with. He makes good cuts and passes to an open spot, but the teammate isn't there and it's a turnover. Having been a starter or 6th man for most of his career, he is used to a higher level of play than most of the bench is capable of.

He's going to make this offense uniquely dangerous in the post season. If he can open up the lane like above, any double on Luka will cost the opposition a basket.

Ya I think Mavs do have the ability to give him like a 10 mil dollar offer or something if they want to make it interesting. Brooklynn I don't think can offer him even tax-payer MLE without triggering a hard cap which wouldn't be good for them. Sixers would probably be very interested in bringing him back. Knicks are good now and might want him back.

Basically every team in the league would probably have use for JJR on a 1 year deal so it just depends on whether or not the teams near his family are in the ballpark money-wise that the Mavs may or may not want to offer.
54% from three so far as a Mav! Always love having a REAL pure shooter on the roster...there's a huge difference between a streaky but statistically good shooter like THJ vs. a pure shooter like a Peja, Seth, Redick, etc.
You could have named this thread "Crying, because we lost Seth for nothing - thread"...

JJ has a move that reminds me of JET. Come around the top of the FT circle to a screen/handoff that allows him a clean shot (that he makes at a high %). Dirk and JET ran that really well, back in the day. Nice to see a shot off motion back in the mix.

Maybe, but Redick is an upgrade in an area or two, I think.  Seth was more of a standstill catch and shoot, which Redick is a great catch-n-shoot guy, but also a great off the screen, shoot on the move guy.

Seth doesn't shoot it unless he's got SUPER clear room to get it off, almost to a fault.  A lot of his success is that he chooses shots really well, almost to a fault.  It hampers the number of shots he takes.

I've never really watched Redick closely until he became a Mav, but he takes (and makes) shots Seth would just pass up, because Redick only requires the smallest sliver of room and the shot is off and it goes in at that high percentage.  He also tires out the other defender running around like he does...that's not Seth, and while I didn't want to trade Seth and I do miss him, I'm not crying about it, because I saw and STILL see the wisdom of it.  Seth is at best a mediocre defender, and for all the bluster Josh is WAAAAAY better than Seth in that area.

Seth is a better play maker, but honestly, Redick has far exceeded my expectations of him in that area, so the results aren't that much worse.  The weird turnovers are more rust and being in sync with his teammates....that doesn't bother me.

There's no way in the world the defender in the picture above would be that close to Seth when Seth was at the same spot on the floor, because Seth wouldn't take that shot because Seth chooses more open shots than Redick.  Seth has an excellent fluid form and release, but Redick's is more compact and much quicker.  You sag of Redick ANY and you are screwed.  Seth would be more likely to pull the trigger from that distance, even though I think neither really would, but the difference in their style, makes the defender stick closer and pay more attention.

It's not necessarily worse or better, but different, and I think, fits better.  Would have loved to have had Redick all season, seriously.
