Dallas played well being undermanned. Confidence booster for sure.
LOL. Luka almost made that anyway.

So now we know Milwaukee can barely beat Dallas when the Mavs are down 5 key contributors. I hope they enjoyed it. Wink

Of course. I think Mavs would have till end of clock. Even if KP hit that, Milwaukee would have time for a winning shot.

Definitely needs to get his game legs underneath him.   He obviously loses lift on his shot as the game goes along.
Giannis was so close to his first ever Dirkie with that foul and free throw shooting performance.
Missing 4 guys from the main rotation,
Can't get a rebound to save our life,
Yet, they needed two contested pull up threes to win.

And this is supposed to be a contender.

And Luka, it makes sense to attack a scrambled defense on the fly, kid. Does not look good arguing with your coach in front of cameras.

If only KP didn't interfere with Green's lay up which was already going in...

Yeah, they got a really good shot out of it...

such is life

Not salty but Bucks are very beatable. We're missing 5 regulars and still only lost by two. Replace Green/Iwundu with Jrich/Kleber, this would've been an easy win. Still hurts though.

My issue tonight is Luka not passing the ball to KP. I saw KP open a few times and he was visibly upset by it.

Not a playoff game.

You don't learn what you don't practice.
Missing players or no, there is no moral victory here. Giannis gifted us this spending much of the game on the bench with foul trouble and shooting 10%! from the free throw line. Combine a lot of stupid errors teamwide and refusing to box out and we just rejected the Greek Freak's gift.

And I would add in KP isn't even close to peak KP yet.   At least not offensively.

I know exactly what you mean, and I agree. This is why i was so adamant that Giannis should not have re-signed there. Terrible for the NBA, imo.

Still, while overhyped, they ARE good enough to beat any team missing five roatation players, imo. I don’t think the Mavericks who were available played WELL, really, but I think we can take SOME encouragement from the fact that they were able to hang around and make it a game.

Inability to think outside the box, imo.  I was begging all game long to put his azz on the line.

I am proud they kept hanging in the game even after a couple of Milwaukee runs. Even after every time they came close, Milwaukee punished a mistake with a three or similar. I actually think they played well. Milwaukee has problems on the offense but they still have great defenders and even depleted Mavs were able to compete. Of course Mavs made mistakes, but so did Milwaukee. Portis brought huge bench energy for them in the third, but Mavs improved greatly in the fourth. In the end, it was two tough Middleton shots.

Johnson had an awesome game. He really is a weapon against big wings. Also drew a bunch of fouls on Giannis. Luka picked it up in the fourth. THJ and Burke were good. Rookies hanged on with most of Milwaukee starters. I was really affraid Milwaukee would put game away at that point in the second quarter but "rookies" stayed in the game. Much was said about Giannis free throws, but as a team Mavs were actually worse with abysmal 46 %.

I still maintain Mavs need another creator. Luka had 13 assists. Next best had 3 (Johnson), followed by Terry (2 assists). Too much is expected from Luka and rather sooner than later will start wearing him down.

Who do we sacrifice to get that playmaker though?

Johnson's been a huge plus on defending bigger, athletic superstars and handles the ball well as a Point Forward. You could make an outside argument that THJ has been our best player.

My issue tonight is Luka not passing the ball to KP. I saw KP open a few times and he was visibly upset by it.

It was the same issue last season, where KP set a pick (somewhat of a Pick) and Luka would either go for the basket or dish it out to the player opposite of KP.

My worries is that Luka makes this a "thing", and at some point KP is going to be vocal about being neglected for the open shot.

Hope im wrong and that Luka didn't pass it to him because of  his low FG%

We're missing Brunson. Coach did put in Terry who had 2 assists in 4 minutes.

Ideally it is Powell and Brunson (plus whatever picks). That package should get us Hill. If not, than I would still go with Johnson (and Brunson and picks). His minutes will be likely much reduced after Kleber and DFS return anyway. Of course only if we are speaking about a true scorer/facilitator.

I said it many times. I love Brunson, but I think he deserves more than leftover minutes behind Luka. I just don't see Mavs commiting to Luka/Brunson playing together a lot.

??? That is silly. KP fired 19 shots with 31 % accuracy. How many more shots should he take? And Luka did pass him plenty.
