Prob a good low-risk vet min signing.

I LOVE Iwundu, very EXCITED about this!

He was one of my favorites in his draft class that year.

He was +5.3, +4.9, +5.0 Defensive On/Off the last three years. And that is while being on a pretty good defensive team overall. That is good stuff.

He is also 6'6.75" in shoes with 7'1" wingspan.

I’ll take it. This is like gambling with house money on a small bet that could pay a big reward.

We have so much competition on this roster. In the next season or two, someone will emerge from the pack and hopefully be much more than anticipated.

In the short run, Carlisle will have at his disposal a situation similar to a defensive line in football loaded up with hound dog’s where they are frequently swapped in and out to keep them fresh to attack.

Quote:The Magic play like a top-three defense when Iwundu is out there, and a league-average defense when he’s not.

Iwundu’s athleticism allows him able to guard multiple positions. If you don’t believe me, ask Pascal Siakam.

That wingspan.

Quote:“First defense, of course,” he said. “Try to help take some pressure off some of those guys on the offensive end. And also the 3-ball, spotting up and being ready to shoot the open shot. A lot of other things that fit into my game and keep up with the fast pace that those guys play with will be a big thing, as well.”

“You can’t ask for anything better,” Iwundu said. “It’s a golden opportunity. What [Luka]’s able to bring to a team is spectacular from all angles. So many things he can do. Just to look over and see him wearing the same jersey as you on the court gives someone like myself a lot of confidence to just go out there and win some games — and go far.”
Good answer.

Defense is not just getting lip service this year

In before people start complaining because RC is using lineups with two undersized guards.

On a more serious note. It´s great to see that the Mavs realized that with Luka on the court offense will never be a problem. They obviously play different positions but in this case I see the Dirk comparisation. No matter the supporting cast or the scheme with all time talents like this on othe floor the worst case scenario for the offense is a top 5-10 O-Rating. In Dirks case they wasted a lot of time before they finally surrounded him with a more defensive minded supporting cast instead of chasing O-Rating records with guys like Nash, Van Exel, Jamison or Walker starting next to him.
The guy has no offensive game so that's why he was available so cheaply. Almost all of the Magic's defensive gains with Iwundu on the floor were wiped out by offensive losses. With Luka here he should fit nicely because we can afford to use a one way player where the one way is on the defensive end. Definitely useful for situations where defense is needed. He's roughly an 80% free throw shooter which indicates there might be some hope for his shot too. Solid low risk pickup

Thanks for the math, couple of ideas (add draft compensation as needed):
1. 14,029 (Johnson)+THJ+Brunson for OPJ+Young
2. Johnson+Kleber for Turner+McDermott
3. Johnson+THJ for Oladipo+McDermott
4. Johnson+Brunson for A.Gordon
5. Johnson (Brunson if needed) for Bogdanovic
6. THJ for Hield (many other variations possible - add Kleber receive Holmes and similar)

Many other possibilities that I don't really like or I think are impossible

Sorry, I moved the post to the main trade/FA thread when I had my second cup of coffee and realized I posted this in the Iwundu thread.

To further my point about expanding the deal.  I missed this where the Adams thing to NO was part of our 3-way with Detroit/OKC.  Was this posted and I just missed it?

"ESPN and the New York Times report that the deal also includes the Denver Nuggets and Dallas Mavericks. Per reports:

Pelicans get: Steven Adams
Mavericks get:
 James Johnson

Pistons get: Delon Wright
Thunder get: Trevor Ariza, Justin Jackson, 2023 protected first-round pick (via DEN), two second-round picks"
So, he is basically our new MKG

Unlike MKG, when Iwundu falls off a camel, he can hit sand.
He really didn't play that much in Orlando, so he's hard to read. More defense than offense for sure. Worth taking a flyer on to see if he can develop into a rotation player. Can't be any worse than J Jackson was, or can he?

Looks like he has some handles, too.
