Since we are all draft experts and know the MBT better than they know themselves, let´s play a little draft night game.


Everybody pick

five players that you think will be available at #18 
five players that you think will be available at #31

in the order you think the Mavs would draft them.

You get 100 points, if they select your first choice
You get 80 points, if they select your second choice
You get 60 points,  if they select your third choice
You get 40 points, if they select your fourth choice
You get 20 points, if they select your fifth choice

You get 10 points for each player on your list, but you lose one point for each position he´s drafted ahead of #18 or #31, and two
points for each position after. So you can´t just pick 10 random dudes projected to go undrafted.

Person with the most points obviously wins. I suggest a customized Draft KING moniker under their username for the winner.

As I already said, we know our Mavs so we need a "bonus" round:

Name the top eight players, that will be acquired using the #18 or/and #31 pick, in some way, shape or form.

You get 100 points, if they acquire your first choice

If the Mavs just trade up or down from #18+#31 without any players involved we all lose.

I suggest you expand this to minus 20 points for every player that was traded but is not on your list.

Hmm, I think a double penalty might be a bit harsh and stretching my math skills.

Btw this is for all transactions leading up to the draft or on draft night, so I picked Fournier, as I expect he would agree to opt into his PO to make a Mavs trade possible. Gallinari would technically not be eligible for an official trade prior to the start of FA as he is an UFA.

It is not a double penalty. I think current system stimulates you to name few names to av0id negative points.

It is not a double penalty. I think current system stimulates you to name few names to av0id negative points. 

Let´s look at it this way. If we have to play the trade system (rather than the draft system), it means trades have occured. You know that already. Otherwise the system is not in play.

Therefore you want to get the most bonus points possible by accurately predicting all the players involved in the trade/s. That´s your incentive to select the traded players, BUT you need a negative control function. Otherwise I can just name the whole roster.

I think it works. Plus not that much time left now until Monday.

Can we also add a prediction game where instead of guessing what the Mavs will do, we evaluate the talent and get points based on their success as rookies or something?

Well let´s do this after the draft in a separate one, when we actually know where the players landed as this surely impacts the ROY race and to some extent the long-term projections.
