I don't want to mess with chemistry at all.......

BUT.....

Love is not a guy for us, but it will be interesting to watch. My bet is on Portland
It's going to suck if he goes to Portland. That would move them into the upper tier in the west.
Love doesn't fit this team at all
100% pass. Not a good fit. The Mavs need to be looking at better fits for the 5 spot so KP can stay in that mobile 4 (ala Dirk) spot. We need someone that can rim protect and move Powell back to the bench. I LOVE Powell as the bench 5 but not so much as a starter.

I agree, I also think the same for DFS. If we had Powell and DFS on the bench, the bench would be that much more amazing!

Luka
THJ or better player
Better player
KP
Better player

Wright or JB
Curry
DFS or JJ
Maxi
Powell

JJB
Boban
Roby
Broekhoff
Lee

The spots with "or" makes those players expendable for trade IMO. Also wouldn't necessarily need a 10 man rotation. If we made it a 9 man is where Curry, Powell or Maxi becomes tradable for the right incoming piece.
I don't love the fit. We'd take a step back on defense. He'd help out with rebounds which the team could certainly use help with and he would space the floor even more. Cubes does have a relationship with him so it wouldn't surprise me. I'm not sure you have enough to offer Cleveland though as I'm sure he'll have plenty of suitors (some desperate). We shouldn't operate a desperate team. There will be lots of opportunities to improve around the TDL.

You know, I was originally thinking the same thing, but if he replaced Powell in the starting lineup, which he would, I don't think it would really be a step back. The probable defensive rebounding alone would be enough to declare the defense better I'd think. Even still, I'm not in on wanting him. I think we could/should find a better fit.

Regarding Powell and to take off my Diamond Powell fan club ring:

-Love would be an upgrade on rebounding
-Love is a much better shooter
-Powell is the much better rim runner for the Luka PNR.
-Powell is probably a slightly better defender...if that.
-I can't imagine we trade Powell.  He and JJB are the torch bearers to continue on Dirk's locker room/community legacy.

Love in the PNR seems like he'd replicate a lot of what KP is doing (minus the occasional rim run). More threes.

My untouchable list would be Luka, KP, DFS, Maxi.  You could change my mind on the last two if you were getting a star.  I don't think the MBT trades Powell or JJB.
I am intrigued by the possibility of a big 5-out lineup. Nevertheless it is to big of a risk in my opinion. What are the options anyway?
Use THJ to match salaries and add minor assets (2nd round picks)? That´s the max offer in my opinion and the Cavs definitely want more. Outside of THJ and Lee I am happy with the contracts and roles of nearly every single player on the roster. It would be nice to move Powell to the bench. It would also be nice to add a another wing to replace THJ or DFS in the starting five. Don´t think Love is the best solution in both cases.

I said it at the beginning of the season, and I still stand by it.

Steven Adams.
We need a rim runner on offense as Powell, as that is friendly for Luka and in general the style of offense we run. But this player needs to be better on defense. Much better on defense than Powell. Preferably some post game also but not essential, rim running and defense is the key, as that is Luka friendly but the defense is the part where we improve. Someone that can hold their own against bigs on defense and rebound well.

Another key thing is that Powell sets perfect screens for Luka. KP is rather horrible at that. So that player needs to be also great at that, we cant go back in this area to not hurt the offense.

In conclusion, player we look for:

1) Rim running (at least as Powell)
2) Setting screens (at least as Powell)
3) Defense (far better than Powell, stronger in the paint against bigs and better rebounder)

Who is that player? Can anyone suggest who that might be to trade for?

In case we can find that solution, we might get the championship this season. It might also be that Powell changes his defensive game around this season but that is very unlikely.

This post made me realise although I am a big critic on Powell he still brings some things to the team that are not easy to replace. As evident from the skills that are needed to replace and improve our team, it won't be easy to find that elite rim runner and setting screens as he is.

On other hand his defense is a big liability in getting the championship and before that is not improved It will seriously impair our chances. So hopefully we will be able to bring someone in that can improve the team, yet both replace and also improve the position.

I thought that player could have been Vucevic. Ok rim running goes away but he is good setting the screens and although he cant rim run like Powell, Luka would find him in other ways in the paint and the way he is skilled he would take full advantage of that. Love is bit similar in that regard to Vucevic I guess. I think it would work, but question is whether removing Powells skills in setting the screens and rim running would actually impair the offense. Perhaps there is a lot there he does it is not seen in the box score. It would defenitely change the way we play offense and that is always very risky. Simply because you dont fix what is not broken. In fact the offense is the best in the NBA. Also changing that now might also risk impairing the great chemistry on the team.

I still think the safest is to find someone that has Powells skills + adds more defense. If that player exists and can be traded for.

Realistically the options that fit your criteria are Favors, Adams and Tristan Thompson. Essentially the names that we have discussed for the last few weeks.

On the defensive side, he also has to be able to switch on perimeter. I basically see Capella as a player that fits this description. Haven't seen Favors enough to be able to judge. I am not into TT

I like Favors, Adams. How about Jonathan Isaac, or Mitchell Robinson? Just asking your opinion.
I mentioned trading for Love in a different thread last week. The issue brought up besides fit, was salary match. If we don't include Hardaway in the trade it would take adding too many players to match salary. With roster numbers in such becoming an issue for Cleveland with so many incoming.

That was last week when Hardaway was on his hot streak, and most of us were probably rethinking the idea of trading THJ.  I wanted to trade Powell, Lee and pieces for Love so we could just replace Powell on the team with Love. He offers better shooting and better rebounding then Powell.

But now that a few more games have gone by, THJ has regressed back to his original form. And Powell is starting to look more like they guy they extended.  I'm a little more optimistic then others on Love's fit here. I can see him fitting in nicely by sliding into that starting spot of Powell's. He offers more than Powell in every role we are asking him to fill. Besides the rim running, Love is a better shooter, better rebounder, stronger post defender.

At this point I'd rather include THJ in the trade and slide Powell to the bench. That makes our bench stronger. But if we don't receive someone else in return like Clarkson then i'm assuming Curry, Wright, or Brunson slides back into the starting lineup. Which would open up bench minutes for none other than Rick's favorite NBA player, JJB.

Capella is guarding 5s most of the time although Houston does do a lot of switches. Also Houston is not going to trade with Dallas anyway so it's moot. I like TT along with some other names of guys that could be easy to get and will make an impact. Our bigs rotation is pretty thin to say the least. An injury to Powell or KP for any length of time would have us doing a lot of DFS, Jackson as a small ball 4 to eat up minutes.

I don't think Love is a match on either side. Cavs want at least one premium pick or multiple picks and/or a young prospect. In my view Portland can give some picks and a young player to make that deal. Love is kind of redundant with KP on offense. Anyways he's a good player but I think a team like Portland is going to be much more interested in a deal for Love.
There are teams that can offer much more. Yes that's true. And he would fit on other teams better.

But if we're focusing on the Mavs,  I don't see why everyone is so down on the fit if you look at it as, Love vs. Powell.  Who is better? The answer is Love in every aspect.  Not debating that there are better fits for that 4/5 position than Love. But if we are simply talking Love for Powell in the lineup then its a no brainer.

For this offense and this team, Powell is basically a less talented version of Love. In every way possible. Besides the 1 or 2 alley oops he converts a game. Why would you not want to upgrade your weakest starter with a supped up version of himself?
