JB should have been allowed to go one on one instead of passing it to double teamed Luka. UGH.
That was a terrible set.  You knew the double was coming and you got it to him so damn late.  I wish JB would have just gone himself.

Spence missing the 3 aside (no fault there) was just awful.  He is going to have to get going.  Mavs just turned this from a 5 game series into a 7 gamer and Utah just got life breathed into a dead team.

That’s a seriously disappointing finish.

Powell is useless.

He definitely isn't useless, but those were huge misses.
Final tally

Fouls - Mavs 29, Jazz 21
FTs - Mavs23, Jazz 42
Elbows given - I don’t know if the Mavs gave any but it was way less than the Jazz
A choke foul. Choke free throws. And, worst of all, a choke coaching decision to try and go full court after the time out, and to run that play. Worst coaching decision I’ve seen in the NBA this year.

I thought that was the plan. No f´n idea why he went back to Luka that late. The whole last three minutes were shit, if we are honest. The Brunson botched lay-up was the only real play they ran. Everything else was stupid heroball again.

The refs were always going to be in the Jazz’s pocket.  They had the game won and choked it.  That’s all there is to it.

This
That and 1 foul by Luka just as bad as Powell choke.

No 3’s applies to and 1’s as well and Luka committed a stupid foul.  Either foul him or pull off.
I never want to hear about Dwight Powell's regular season numbers again. He is not a winning playoff guy.
I mean listen the Mavs were right there and the Jazz literally needed every single call from the refs to barely pull it out.
Don't worry, Powell will respond in game 5 with 7 points, 5 rebound, 4 fouls, and hitting the floor 5 times
I’m not sure this bunch as is can win a playoff series. This feels like a significant turning point for Utah.

tbf, 21-0 run with no timeout is tough to beat.
But yeah, terrible ending there
If Bog is going to be allowed to mug JB and Luka full court the rest of the series this just got a lot tougher.  He should have fouled out 3 times.

I can’t state enough how much I hate that final set.  If you’re going to involve Luka to draw the double and force them to rotate then get into it sooner.  If you’re going to go late then just use the Luka gravity to let JB go to work.

Spencer Dinwiddie has to show up at some point.  Yes he has had some 4th quarter moments.  But his minutes tonight were game losing minutes.

Bob told me we'd win this series during a rousing game of croquet.

Over a prolonged period, I agree. But for one possession, that was just bizarre. Were they not allowed to take it side out?  Inexplicable if so.
Yeah not taking side out when there were only 11 seconds left was an idiotic decision. But it shouldn't have mattered, Powell should have just not choked repeatedly down the stretch lost the game.
Almost. On one hand Mavs were lucky as Utah missed a ton of open threes. On the other hand Mavs bench didn't contribute much this time with only 13 points combined.

Utah got away with a lot. I think that was a clear flagrant on Gobert elbow to Luka face.
Frontcourt is just too much of a weakness for this team. It requires Kleber to shoot well and stay on the floor so that they can continue to run their 5-out offense. When he fouled out, they were in trouble. With Powell, he can't space the floor so it just turned into a Luka ISO-fest. And even with that, they still should have won if Powell makes both free throws.

That is one of the bigger chokes in Mavs playoff history, especially coming from a guy who has been shooting free throws well all year.
