But the advanced stats Twitter brigade will surely slay here again. Darling Haliburton vs. another Lavine/DeRozan-type stat-padding no defense loser.

To me Haliburton looks like a player with Brogdon-ish upside. I don´t think he´ll ever be a 20 PPG scoring option, but an overall winning player.

Of course he´s also a PG and MEET Rick Carlisle.

The world overreacts.  Look at the rollercoaster of who won the KP trade over the years.   First it was the Mavs and then when Randle was going off for the Knicks, they were the obvious winner.  Today, neither team won.

Yeah both lost, but we lost bigger, cause we are sitting here with $50M in long-term contract value that plays like $30M in player value at the cost of three first round picks.

That Randle signing had nothing to do with the trade anyway. Not sure why the Knicks fans always bring it up, likely to make themselves feel better.

We could have signed Randle, if we wanted to.

Not anymore they don't.

KP and the salary dumps let them chase Randle and then give him a horrible contract.  It's a domino theory I guess.

Mavs resigning part of the penalty of the trade to a massive contract is one of the dumbest things we've done in recent memory.

Agree with you there RE THJ contract.

Also the KP contract with no protections/clauses for health.
My issue is not with Sabonis, who I like.  Sacramento's roster is a mess.   They are not going anywhere and will be lucky to be a 10 seed over the next few years.  They should have realized this, blow things up and go the Presti mode and keep Haliburtan on his rookie deal.   I don't think there is a franchise player in this draft but a couple good players.  Next years draft looks really strong.   Be bad for a few years, break the team down and look 2-4 years out.

The Kings fans have been beat down for so long, they would probably be fine getting off this mediocrity treadmill.

It's somewhat understandable/forgivable.  Mavs had no choice if KP and his team could drum up another suitor.

The smarter move would have been to see what they had in Luka for a few years, try to get luck in the draft and then go all in around that core.

The Kings can make more moves though.  You can't just look at the trade in a vacuum.  The Kings have had a better look at who Haliburton is than anyone.  They know they are headed towards a rebuild no matter what public face they are putting on.  Maybe they just like Sabonis more and the price was right. Both Sabonis and Haliburton are on talented teams that are underperforming.
I am not sure if Turner is the ideal fit for Carlisle.  The report saying Turner is excited to play with Haliburtan seemed fishy.    Sounds like something a team would say when making it known that this is not a fire sale.

I haven't watched much of the pacers, but I liked their rookie Isaiah Jackson when we played them.   He is very raw but i liked what i saw.

My reaction was a bit similar.
Not sure if upgraded is the right word, but I feel RC prints all over those trades tbh.
Everyone talking about Haliburton, but I think Heild is the kind of player RC will get the best out of him too.
Won't be surprised if they tried to renew Rubio too btw, although I am not sure he would
Turner is also RC type of player
I cannot believe the Kings are this dumb. Holy shit.

Sacramento has been rebuilding for almost 20 years now. And they still have nothing to show for it. Sabonis and Fox are at least potential building blocks.
I am still surprised the Kings made this trade though.

I would have built my franchise around Haliburton's skillset.

That organization is a dumpster fire, glad the kid got out while he could.
I seem to be one of the few who thinks the Kings did just fine. Sabonis is a 20 & 10 guy with an amazing 65% true shooting. Plus, they dumped the useless Hield, cleared out a logjam at point guard, and brought back a couple of other average players who can find solid roles on a middle of the pack team. Don’t get me wrong, this could be a very good long term deal for the Pacers, but the Kings get a solid, low risk return.
