Kind of worried he may be taking a break for a while after the last game thread against the Nugs.

Actually, it's a so called man-bun, but good catch! Smile

You've been around the board since the yuku-times, right?

I hope it has nothing to do with health-related issues. A couple of weeks back he also took a break because of that, but he said it was not a big deal. I hope he just needed some time off or something.

To make it brief, one of the Mod's had a beef w/him.  I enjoy reading them both and hope that he is in fact just taking a short break.

This board is a big reason why I continue to remain a Mavs Fan.  Because it's sure not this team's wonderful owner.  It's the board and everyone who posts here.  I enjoy reading all opinions whether different or same as mine.

So, to all that post here, I say Thank You.

Let's Go Mavs...
I too truly enjoy this board. I hope everyone can recover from the occasional dust ups that do happen and resume adding to our collective knowledge and enjoyment.
So glad you were able to attend meistermatze.

How do you know? I totally missed this... unless you refer to the situation with kammrath (which I did not think was a big deal)!?

Also: Same here! I think especially for people who are not from the Dallas area (international or not), this board is really valuable. In my case: I don't have anybody to talk to about the Mavs, so this is the only place I can go to. Really appreciate each and every one of the active posters here and I believe I speak for many, many members and also lurkers (guilty myself, most of the time).

Yeah, I think I’ve been here for about 15 years now, can’t remember how many board changes there have been since then…

I do want to echo your thoughts about this being a great place for international posters, my only problem with the forum is it’s 100% bball focused; (salary cap, X’s and O’s, etc) and anything related to building a “community” outside of the technical bball stuff gets very little interaction…

I was thinking one day it would be cool to have some kind of online drinking / game watching party over zoom or something, to give those of us who don’t have a mavs network in real life, a chance to speak face to face (kind of) and get to know each other a little better, but can’t imagine that many people being up for it…

Yeah, I didn't see it at all so with the missing @"mavsluvr" recaps and then this thread I became curious and went back to look it up.  Uh, yeah, looks like an unfortunate misunderstanding of a simple joke that went from light hearted to being interpreted as personal way too quickly.  Sad

I mean he was evidently asked to leave at one point?  Here's to hoping it can get buried as we are seeing a very exciting uptick in the Mavs season?

Quote:If it is the second, please stop it or leave the board. Trolling is not welcome here. Just because you pretend to be Followill does not make you exempt from the rules all the rest of us follow.

1) It wasn't a misunderstood joke, it was a pattern over the course of months. It is all there to see on the boards for yourself.

2) As a poster (not as a mod) I asked him to stop trolling me or to leave. That is not even remotely unreasonable (and it is something we expect of every single person on here). And in addition I made it very clear I wanted him to stay around here and we all value his contributions.

Dahl there is a lot more history there, and you're misrespresenting what you linked when you say he was "asked to leave". You left out that it was essentially "If you're trolling me, then stop or leave.".

Unfortunately mavsluvr and Kam had some disagreements. Kam felt wronged. Now it looks like mavslurv feels wronged. But, no one wants mavslurv to leave, including Kam!! And he didn't "ask him to leave".

Just jumping in here because the way you characterized things was very much a misrepresentation.

Missing Luvr as well - Luvr is in his own league as a poster! We learn a lot from his posts that make us extract/understand more from watching the Mavs games and this way contributes to far better entertainment for us fans. Everyone else in this form also contributes to this particular effect, and should also be acknowledged. For everyone, in any sport, or any other business in fact, performing their craft at an exceptional level, it is a general rule-of-thumb that this will co-correlate with additional polarizing effect and bring much stronger reaction/opinions from others. Luka is actually another example, gaining an extra kilogram and was suddenly called "fat" - yet we are getting convincing evidence these last games that this was not true and that most likely this was in large part indeed injury related. Djokovic is another one that we saw in media lately. Not saying in general that the elite guys are perfect at what they do on as well off the court, but there is a clear tendency IMO when you are great at something that this alone will make others react with much stronger opinions/reactions and often even enlarge small things at what they did/do to the absolute outer extremes.

Dahl, also re-read that same thread. All Luvr did was not agreeing with the unfair criticism of Luka - which is completely fair, and he did it in a completely normal non-personal way as a small polite joke. And this in turn brought up a very strong personal reaction. Given my other examples above with others that are great at what they do, it can even be considered as a normal reaction, and looking from this direction nobody is to blame here.

Dahl, my hope is also, and I truly believe in this, that as Luka and Djokovic use this as an inspiration to perform even better, I do hope Luvr will as well. I am totally optimistic for this season - both from the forum side and the team performance and there are some encouraging signs of improvements. I think we all are gaining momentum at the right time and Mavs might have a chance going really far this season!

@"fifteenth"  If you notice, I provided the direct link to the post so that anyone that might have missed the discussion as I did could simply click it and read more of the context.

So no I don't think its a misrepresentation for people that bother to read more than the brief part of the comment I chose to highlight, because I went out of my way to make it clear I was highlighting certain part of the comment.

In fact I did follow the thread and several more related posts so even if I had included @"Kammrath" full statement it wouldn't include his later comments where expanded on what he what he meant, or ML's later response or Kamm's detailed post essentially accusing ML of a history of trolling him etc.

So if you're now going to characterize my comment as a misrepresentation, then exactly how much do I need to quote from the conversation rather than link to it?

Look I very much appreciate reading Kamm's work on this board and I've followed ML's recaps religiously now for the several years now he's offered them.  The fact remains, as others I think posted, if you're in an official position on the board and you say "leave the board if you're trolling" then you go on to say "you're trolling me and here's my history of proof" then you invited the person to leave the board as a board official.

Not sure how you choose to represent that but I highlighted it the way I saw it and linked the rest.

Well I didn't follow the history of posts you detailed but imho, just looking at that last post and thread alone and my general reading of the threads I have to say I don't think your use of the word trolling there is helpful.
It escalates the personal nature of the conversation unless the person really is a troll in which case they generally don't care.  Sick
Disagreements in general even if in a pattern between members is not necessarily trolling in the traditional sense of the word.

ML's style is often to use sarcasm or humor but he's generally making a rational response of some kind whereas a troll generally gets to the pattern of posting without any real effort as rational reply.  Calling it trolling was in essence accusing Mavsluvr of being a troll.

You made a better point in explaining how you would prefer he would express his disagreements toward you, since you weren't liking the sarcasm so much. Problem is that point came after you already called him a troll and then later when on to doubled down with a troll post history.

Agreed, ML and Kamm are both outstanding posters.  Luka and Djokovic?  Nice.  I guess Kamm has to be the tennis star in this comparision?  Big Grin

I think the criticism and the defense of Luka are both very valid too in terms of the substance of the discussion.  Luka's shooting numbers, turrible, but his impact on the game as a triple double threat is bonafide.  If he shoots better with the rest of the Mavs roster taking on J. Kidd's style, this team could make some real noise.

Kamm,

I hope you will not receive this as a personal attack, but I believe your stance to be really childish. I have followed, I think, most of your little quarrell, because the two of you are kind of my favorite posters. I did not think much of it, because I thought we are all adults here. A user here is NOT obligated to read (alleged) troll-posts against him. You could have just blocked or ignored him, if it was so hard for you to endure.

Yes, it was mavsluvrs own choice to leave this board but after what he has contributed to this board, I can totally understand why he felt disappointed.

Mind you, I would write the same if the tables were turned. Yes, the game-recaps were my favorite part on this board and I am really disappointed right now but you as a poster had a similar affect on me: Every time you brought in some numbers I knew this was going to be good and I was always looking forward to reading your opinion.

I would strongly recommend for the two of you to sort this out and bring him back, because this is really hurting this board (and I don't think you realize how much - I would bet a lot of money on the assumption that MANY lurkers just came around because of the recaps and the resulting discussion).

I know you could - as a mod, you have his e-mail.

Like I said, I would be upset if you left this board, kamm, and I realize you feel like the one being wronged here but in reality, it is the board who is hurting.

Please reconsider.

Also, accusing mavsluvr of acting like Mark Followill is beyond ridiculous. The guy was obviously just playing along the joke and statet numerous times, that it was not the case. Just had to say it.

If you read this, mavsluvr, plase try to sort it out with kamm. We need posters like you two guys, I mean it.

Great posts by Dahl, burkemde and fif, btw. It made things a lot clearer.

Fif, I hope you know how much I respect you as a poster and I just love your way of humour. I also know you have probably been around this board (and its predecessors) the longest, so you might very well have a far better grasp of the situation, than I could ever imagine to have.

However, I have to disagree with your stance: Like Dahl explained, I don't think mavsluvr was "trolling" per se. Things escalated between him and kammrath, yes. But since when does a poster have "stop or leave" a board, because some individual does not like their posts? Shouldn't we all be able to handle criticism and even the occasional insult? This is the internet for god's sake. We could even just stop responding to each other or flat out ignore the other person. I really don't understand this - is this the way we are supposed to handle conflicts?

In the real world "please stop, your words are making me feel bad" is not the way to progress in any way shape or form.

I don't want to be rude or stir things up, but all of this is NOT making sense. And like I said, I believe this to be a horrible direction for this board to take. We should really think about what kind of precedence we want to set here.

Please correct me, if I am wrong. I want this to be a constructive contribution.
Yeah what a bummer
Wish Kamm would have just blocked him. The back and forth was so pointless
Agreed.

Could we not just all reconcile and remember for the future: to block and ignore people, before it escalates.
(01-11-2022, 02:30 AM)meistermatze Wrote: [ -> ]Could we not just all reconcile and remember for the future: to block and ignore people, before it escalates.

When the mods huddled over two years ago to come up with rules we decided on something very simple as the heart of this new (transplanted) community: "Be respectful." (https://www.mavsboard.com/announcements.php?aid=3)

The dictionary definition of respect: "due regard for the feelings, wishes, rights, or traditions of others."

We desired this to be a board and community of adults--people who have regard for and honor the boundaries of others. Adults listen to and respect the boundaries requested and put in place by others ("no means no" when dealing with adults being respectful with each other). Adults operating with respect have no need of "block" or "ignore" functions or needing to have mods intervene, because they can put up a boundary and it will be honored and respected by others.

That is the kind of board we are trying to create here. The mods have banned only a couple posters in over two years and it was because those posters repeatedly refused to honor and respect the boundaries of others--it was an absolute last resort after many appeals and it was voted on by the mods that were not directly involved in the incidents.

Hopefully that is helpful for understanding where the mods are coming from on these things.

P.S. To be clear, mavsluvr has not been banned in anyway. Mavsluvr is a desired part of this community.
