Figured a standalone thread would be good for this move given how odd it is for both teams.

I really don't think there is anything odd about it. NO wanted cap space and Memphis wanted picks. The rest are details, imho

Jonathan Givony said their has been chatter that Memphis likes Giddey from Australia.

Just because they didn't really fix the issue with their front court and got cap space in return for it.

Memphis takes a stepback with Bledsoe who's not an impact player anymore, and Adams (while great in his own right) isn't nearly as good as Jonas is and they take on a bunch of salary.

Maybe they really like Alperen Sengun at 10?

Memphis is rebuilding, they don't care much how good Adams and Bledsoe are. They care about picks. If those two guys would be positive, NO wouldn't be paying picks to get rid of them.

They can move Valanciunas in another deal (plenty of picks left).
This is a good question - are the Pels creating space before they need to or do they already know they will need it and who for they will need it?
I would consider Bledsoe at rMLE. Depending of course on the other moves

Since I consider Valanciunas the best player in the deal and they take on more money, the Grizzlies must like somebody at #10.

I thought it was decided that no one can start a new thread anymore... Angel

Memphis was in the playoffs this year. They're looking to take the next step not keep rebuilding.

They were almost in the playoffs last year too.

JV was a big reason why.

But I will say after thinking about it for longer, I'll say I don't think this is THAT bad of a trade for Memphis. JV was getting up there in age, and Adams is a good player in his own right. I think how good we judge this trade depends on how they use the 10th pick. If they pick up a solid guy or better, then its hovering around a A to B. If they whiff then this trade quickly falls down a C to D level for me.

Seems like Mavs agree. But if our target is Lowry and we plan to resign THJ, why would we need Bledsoe?

Bet on Bledsoe as the fall back plan (after Lowry get money whipped) OR the pivot that could allow Dallas to pursue another target and still get legit PG help for Luka

Totally agree. Screams like a fall back plan. I do think THJ to the Mavs might not be such an open and shut case. I think the Mavs want him back. I just think they want other guys more.

I can easily see THJ signing elsewhere come 12:01 August 2nd because the Mavs are prioritizing other guards.

I think this is key. All of top FA will likely get money whipped. So Mavs can either do that or try for the second time with "Wright was literally the second guy we called" explanation. We should be prepared that if Mavs bring in a good FA, he will looked overpaid, and we should be fine by that.
After thinking about it more, I am going to give Memphis the benefit of the doubt until all the moves are played out.  They have been too good recently with their roster building.    Zach Lowe mentioned Jonas was eligible for an extension.   If Memphis decided he was not in their long term plans moving up to 10, picking up a future first and getting a 25% downgrade in Adams from Jonas is not terrible.   Especially if they find another young player to add to their young nucleus.   Not extending Jonas may have caused some problems in the locker room possibly.

I think NO is the team that really needs to have a good offseason.    The Adams signing was a mistake.   The assets they got back for Jrue don't look that appealing at the moment.    There has been rumblings that Zion is not happy.  That can be fixed but they really need to have a good offseason.  There is too much pure talent on that team for how they played last year.    They should be at a similar stage as Memphis in their team development.
Ya, ever since NO traded Jrue, it looks like they’ve been trying to get someone to replace him.
