Mavs have not closed out a series since 6/12/2011 (Championship!) and haven't even had a chance to do so since 5/4/2014 against San Antonio. Time for the guys to put on their black suits and end this streak before it hits a full decade. Must win game.

It has come down to this:

The first team to win a home game wins the series.
I don't see this going back to LA. Surely Luka won't let these boys get comfortable being at home again.

Or (of course) ...

If neither team wins a home game ...

Hey, ... I'm OK with that!
Coach made excellent defensive adjustments in game 5. Now I would like to see some offensive ones. Can Mavs really win another game with Luka doing basically everything on offense? I am affraid not. Is it really impossible to get KP more involved? Other than one game he has been efficient in the rare shots he got. And it would be nice to get more from role players again. Especially looking at Brunson.

If I were RC I'd try a lineup of Brunson/JRich/THJ/KP/Boban with Luka out. Maybe Boban's gravity can allow some guys to score. Or he could just dunk it himself, and force Lue to put in Zubac, which should then create pick-and-roll opportunities.
Its LAs turn to make a countermove. Thus. Keep the strategy the same as in game 5. But make a counterplan B and C, in case LA comes up with a good counter to twin tower strategy. Thats the key to winning.

In fact Mavs need to predict how LA will counter and prepare the plan B and C.

But there is a good chance they cant counter. Thus the key is to make the same gamplan. No changes.

I equate this more with 2001 breakthrough for the Dirk/Nash/Finley squad.  Who will provide our Calvin Booth moment?

Game day again? I’m emotionally battered already...

I’ve been watching most of the games on mute in my booth in the office at work, silently screaming and/or punching the air after every possession...

I don’t know why I do it anymore; regular season is a slog, watching and analysing 82 games a year gets a little boring at times, and then the playoffs is so emotionally draining...

Ah well, got a day off tomorrow, so bring it on!

I think that is a good take.    I would be surprised if the twin tower thing is a long term hit.  I want to see it again, but I think there are clear holes to it.

I would really like to see KP and Brunson get on track.  KP has been discussed tons.  Brunson has been very quiet with low minutes the last few games.   It is a bad matchup for him, but I would like to see him break through with 15 plus points.   Not sure what is the best lineup with Luka out, but they need to tread water there.    If KP and Brunson are not productive, that is a very tough ask.
Seems like the only counter LAC has to the twin tower is Zubac, but Luka needs a bib for all the salivating he does when Z is in the game.

Not saying they won't try something else, but they were built for a particular style of play and I don't know if they have many options to change it.

FWIW, I like the attention Boban gets, but I hope he gets protected by the refs better. I'd also like to see him monster-up a little and just cram the ball in rather than flipping it over the rim. Maybe not in his psyche though.

One counter I'm also worried about LAC putting a hit out on Luka. They have to know that taking him out wins the game and they could stand for somebody like Morris to take a Flagrant 2 if it sends Luka off the court.
I have a feeling we don't start Bobi again but still go with two bigs out there in KP/Powell.  Powell's minutes in the 3rd were the reason we won game 5.  The bigger question is whether we go zone again, DFS seemed to do ok with Kawhi when they had to man up so I wonder if we see more of that from the tip or if we go back to Maxi.

Honestly, I don't see why KP can't do what Bobi was doing in game 5 to a better result. I think Powell or Maxi can do what KP did to a better result too.

Edit: on defense at least.

I think Bobi was us waiving the white flag and saying "we don't know how to make this defense work" and he was out there to fill the gap that KP was leaving on offense by not punishing a smaller clippers lineup.

But your statement (in theory) should apply to both offense and defense which is what's so upsetting about KP right now.

On defense both have similar problems. Cannot defend in space. Boban is even slower but also stronger and a way better rebounder.
On offense Boban can set "real" screens. Also has the strength to establish position in the paint. For easy paint catches or offensive rebounds. Boban plays like a big. KP plays like a 7´3 SG.

I think the point of having both of the big fellas out there (instead of one) was to play a zone that kept KL and PG out of the lane and away from the basket to start the game. It was a tone setter. And it worked! If the Clippers would have hit all those 3 pointers it would have been a disaster. But they didn't, which is nice.
